One thing is certain; after the benefits stop, i better not hear one thing about welfare ever again.

From anybody.

If you can work, and you choose not to; you're doing the SAME EXACT THING.

Even $15 an hour won't make people get off unemployment.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79790939

Nope, once you get use to sitting home you realize how much working for a living sucks. I've been working for over 40 years and am still working. If I get a three or four day weekend it's much harder to go back to work than if I would have just kept working. It burns you out physically and mentally, you hardly get any time off. I know young people that find a way to get on disability or welfare after their first job because many are lazy and realize that sitting home getting paid is much better than working even though it's a lower standard of living. Not having to worry about medical bills is a load off by itself because one serious illness can bankrupt many people.

The cost of living is so high now because investors drive up the price of everything we need to live so they can make a quick buck in the markets. Many people have to work more than one job with crappy medical benefits just to scrape by. I don't blame them for giving up. There is no incentive to work any more because there aren't livable wage jobs available for those who can't get a higher education. Even if everyone were smart enough to get a higher education, there wouldn't be enough jobs for all of them.
 Quoting: DakotaRose

Kids have seen people working their asses off only to die in their 60s or earlier. Never really enjoying their shirt life. Many don’t want that and they also see that corporations don’t care about them so get by doing as little as possible. They don’t want to work til they drop and I don’t blame them. Saw that with my own father. They want to have some fun and just be.

All the businesses in my area, even Walmart are having rolling closures due to staff not coming to work or not being able to find employees.

Some of the restaurants are having to close on the weekends because they dont have workers.

I have never seen this before. And, it isnt like it is something that gradually started to happen. It started happening all at once.

It's IMO a combination of things:

- Covid and fear of contracting it.

- Unemployment pays pretty well.

- The "cannot kick out tenants for not paying rent" moratorium.

- The fazt food placez treat their employeez like crap many timez. They are sick of it.

People need to go back to having independent family farms. At this point you'd have to tear down all the corporate chain businesses and bust up all the concrete to get to a lot of the farm land. Then, maybe go to war with China because they own a lot of the farm land not built on.

Get paid more to not work

THIS!!!

Montana just announced that effective in June they will no longer accept Federal Unemployment benefits. Montana pays $515 per week Unemployment and when you add the Federal $300 Federal kicker, people were able to bring in $815 per week! As a consequence there is NO incentive for people to go back into the work force. Make more sitting on their asses than working and contributing to making their state's economies run. Like most states, their businesses cannot find anyone to hire. Nobody wants to work anymore!!! They are hoping by no longer taking the Federal money, people will go back to work.

People not working because they make more taking Unemployment is a BIG problem in the PNW. Lots of businesses in the area also are not opening, or running reduced hours like other areas of the country. This is impacting the economic and social well being of communities! We are rapidly be reduced to the level of a 3rd world nation - cannot buy stuff, cannot get anything fixed, prices going through the roof.......

Hope you all are prepared for the collapse of our country because it is imploding rapidly!!

Right. I just wondered if businesses do that mega diversity hiring on their own accord or if they get some kind of monetary incentive- or if it was a requirement- of the feds or states they had their business in. I know some "rules" change once a business has over a certain number of employees or if the employees work a certain number of hours- such as the business has to start paying health insurance, etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80064536

Here in Canada they get preferential treatment and even on job applications they ask if you're a minority so they can bump your chance of an interview higher. It's funny too since Canada still has a higher white/euro population than the US yet already we bend over backwards to those that do not and will never hold the western values
 Quoting: ExodusRa

Are private businesses required to do that by the government (or do they get incentives, grants, etc.)or is it just one of those sick new things Whites have chosen to do in majority?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80064536

Just hired 4 people at work. Directive from head office in the US - NO WHITIES, we were supposed to focus on hiring blacks, but none applied, probably because it's an industry that doesn't attract many black people. We got 250 applications from white people several of them with passion and experience in the industry, 20 hispanics, 20 asians and a girl from Russia. The only people I saw as qualified were some of the white people including the Russian girl and one of the hispanics, but we ended up hiring 2 hispanics, 1 asian and we hired one of the white people (we expect to get berated over this from up the chain of command). I don't think they get diversity kick backs from the Canadian government, but word on the street is that they do get a kick back in the US for every diversity hire.
 Quoting: KeepingItReal

Interesting, in a bad way.

Notice they used the word "focus" instead of required. When you saw that, did you replace the word focus with required in your mind?

If you had a non qualified black applicant what would you have done?

It's been building up to this... maybe a living wage doesn't sound so bad to you guys anymore?

The whole minimum wage sector has burn out. If you don't force the people to pay a living wage... this is what happens.

Tierd of see good people working 2 - 3 jobs to pay for the same nessecities... as the rest of the world... I see them.

I know most of GLP was against the living wage, due to the egoic competitive nature of the insecurity they feel inside... but maybe people will start realizing... $15/hr would get a lot of these people back up on their OWN feet instead of unemployment.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80264879

You don't pay a living wage to a group of people who have limited skills. These types of jobs have always been for high school, college or retirees..not to support a family or even an individual, but to supplement. The reason people are not working is because xiden is paying them not to work.

Come on now, do you honestly believe a $15 dollar wage will do anything for the unskilled worker? It will only ensure that businesses raise their prices which will come around to bit the butt of the low income earner, anyway.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80340215

Not enough kids to work anymore. And old people can’t work the jobs because social security limits them. And they would gladly work to just get out of the house. The rest don’t want to work for crappy wages that don’t pay for anything and I don’t blame them. Especially when they don’t get any healthcare and the business won’t give them many hours or jerks them around with the times they have to work. There is no stability.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79543875

But it's fine for the younger generation, who are trying to build a life - house, car, bills paid and enough left to actually have fun and buy some stuff - to accept these conditions?

Chuckle

America's fundamentally broken - the old mind games of "you have to work even tho it does not provide a liveable income" because your corporate overlords want higher profits and pay the politicians to keep the shit up are disintegrating.

If it makes you feel better, a lot of the world is going thru something similar
 Quoting: Sol-tari

So, the $15/hr min wage is a horrible idea. It should be more like $40 to keep up with inflation, however, what about people are are in skilled or semi skilled positions making, say, $20 an hour. They've learned a trade and work their asses off (unlike minwagers that are slackers), are you gonna raise them to $40 an hour? And, what about me. I make, now, approximately 5 times minimum. You gonna raise me to 10 times minimum? If government has screwed min wagers, you think they have not screwed the rest of us? If we're gonna reward min wagers with double the wage, I want my raise too!

I work and provide incredibly complex solutions, setup and configurations for computer clusters and networks. You gonna pay me an equitable wage?

No, you're not. You're thinking like government which is a lot like *NOT* thinking. I agree, minwagers have been screwed but if you're gonna try and correct them, you need to correct us all.

After purchasing the equipment to perform whatever task needs to be done, robots will work 24/7/365, without threats of bad service or unionizing for better pay.

I've heard that China is already doing this, by moving the farmers off the land and into smart cities. The work formerly done by farmers is all done by robotic equipment. There's really no need for human employees, as whatever can be delivered directly to whatever market it needs to go to.

Thank you for helping to convince employers to automate the workforce, and eliminate human workers.

Half the population is hiding in their homes wearing two masks and avoiding non-vaccinated people.

Throw in some government money and you have a recipe for a closed economy.

You can't go around scaring people half to death and then wondering why some are hiding under a rock and opting out of society.

Yup. The government has got most of the population scared of their shadow. They don’t want the teens going out and bringing back the corona to grandma.

That's another reason. All any of these stores have to do is pay a livable wage and treat their employees like humans. I gave up working long ago after the three strike rule. Not even including the fact that none of these jobs paid enough to pay rent alone....

1. Got fired from Resteraunt in Texas for using the bathroom while they were busy by a girl just out of high school manager, despite the fact I did the work of 3 employees every day.

2. Then I went to west Texas to get into the last oil boom. Was living out of a backpack trying to get on my feet. Labor ready wouldn't let me keep my backpack at office so I stashed it in scrub desert. Someone found it and slashed it to pieces. Got paid $60 for rolling barrels of hazmat materials all day, lost a $300 backpack. Nice negative $240/day pay from labor ready.

3. Then I got sent to help a guy dig a ditch In neighborhood. He was happy. I took 10 minute lunch then told him I'd be right back after I went to bathroom at gas station 3 blocks away. He demanded I instead go behind house facing in session elementary school and pee on their fence. I got fired by him for not exposing myself to hundreds of young children.

This all was after quiting trucking because my company wouldn't let me sleep, working 5 days straight without so much as an hour break while they paid me $3/ hour. This was only 15 or so years ago when minimum wage was over 7 an hour.

I don't even understand employers expectations anymore. And I'm tired of their degenerate inhumane treatment. They can treat us like humans or go out of business for all I care. I can deal with substandard pay, I won't out up with 6 managers screaming different demands at me, having everything I own destroyed, I won't commit major crimes for starvation wages. I'm not getting into major accidents on the road because your dispatch sucks. It's beyond absurd. I'm 43 years old and I haven't worked for anyone since all that. It's pointless to even try anymore since everyone just strives to be the biggest scumbag and abuser. So quit crying. You Sholes put yourselves here. How's that unlimited demand for housing with unlimited supply of workers suppressing wages and skyrocketing rents working out for you? Still want open borders? You are either evil or braindead.

^that is why employers treat employees like garbage. There is an unlimited supply of h1b holders and Mexicans waiting for your job. So employers took advantage of us and treated us like crap. Can't wait to watch you all payingrhe piper. You've earned it! Bwahaha. I'll enjoy my peaceful thoughtful life as a vagabond. Its far more humane than joining your degenerate death cult

Re: My Local Walmart, Arby's, Wendy's, Subway all Closed: No Staff!
Had to quit my job to raise my income enough to keep my nose above water.

house: 200k
Truck: 50k
obamacare: 23k
food: 10k

Then there's taxes, insurance, education, clothing, maintenance, so on and so forth.

People can't keep up so they give up.

Stagflation: prices go up while wages stay the same.

It's worse than people think and getting worse by the minute.

Biden tax plan is a wreaking ball.

Government taking so much money for it's self slows down the economy.

I quit my residential / light commercial repair and remodeling job 2 months ago because of low wages. Started my own repair service. I'm a one man band now making $96 per hour and staying busy. Work less hard, make more money.

Pity the fool working for someone else having to ask for more money. Work for yourself and you don't have to ask.

People I used to work for are crying the blues. Still haven't been able to hire my replacement. They now call me for service. In the span of 60 days I went from $18 with no benefits to $96 per hour. The company wants skilled experienced workers with tools and transportation. Not one person has applied. Now I'm back working for the same company doing the same work for 5 times the pay.

It's their own fault they can't find good people. Even if we wanted to we can't work for peanuts and survive. Have got to go where the money is.

I love the mind set, and there is an app called Next door where I see a great deal of requests for handyman type work so I agree, this is viable however I also see many responses to each request for a handy man, 8 people wanting to trim shrubs, or fix a window, etc.

You say 96 per hour which is great, how many hours a week are you able to get?

yup

I feel so sorry for people that are forced to wear a mask all day long.

Fucking miserable.

I imagine only people that HAVE to work are doing so under those conditions.
 Quoting: ^TrInItY^

I just thought of something. There is no defined thinness of material for masks, only that they are required in some places. What if the mask is say... silk, or sheer cotton or fishnet? Would this be an acceptable form of protest?
 Quoting: Coy

Yeah if you have to work cut out the layers. Or get a very thin mask or balaclava. Wear it under the nose when you can. Or get a face shield and see how they are. Some people have the mask with the vents and clear the vents of obstructions making them breathable. And no one knows.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The gaiters/ baclavas are much more tolerable.
Make sure to order the ones that stretch (most do).
.
To others you appear fully covered, yet it’s thin enough and miles better than restrictive paper-style medical masks with the dopey rubber bands around your ears.
Plus the baclavas are very versatile; and many people (especially in the south) could benefit from have several even if the pandemic never happened, as you can wear them as neck protection from the hot sun while working outside etc. use as a sweatband, etc etc.
.
They’re thin enough so that if you cover your entire face and eyes with one, you can still actually see through it, even though to others you’d look blinded and covered.
.
That’s the only way to skirt the bullshit in any event where a mask is required to enter and/ or work.

If it was serious business, EVERY place would require N95 or better, and you know by know there are much more ample supplies of the more effective masks.......yet no specific requirement recommended by the CDC etc..........From the start it was all about N95.
.
.
Now magically that’s forgotten, and it’s just “wear that symbol, wear that symbol, any mask will do”.....,,,,,,,,
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70707278

Yup. It’s just a symbol. You could wear one of see through lace and they wouldn’t care.

Re: My Local Walmart, Arby's, Wendy's, Subway all Closed: No Staff!

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79934092

I have an idea, how about you get laid up by a medical reason for you to not be able to work like I did, and be forced to have to hire someone to do the work you usually do for whatever you normally get. Guess what? They bitch and moan about not getting enough, steal your stuff, and do crappy work that needs to be done over because they did sub-standard labor for premium rates.
