Why do businesses even have such a thing? Is it required by the fed for larger businesses, do businesses get tax breaks for hiring "minorities"? My Dad owns a few small independent businesses and he hires mostly Whites and said he never heard of or looked into getting tax breaks for hiring minorities. He said he just hires who he wants.

I have been living in extreme poverty for most of my life. Quite alot of life opportunities have been robbed from me because of this fact. I have been made fun of in real life for years for having the audacity to keep living at all because I am dirt poor. Try living in poverty for decades. I quit my residential / light commercial repair and remodeling job 2 months ago because of low wages. Started my own repair service. I'm a one man band now making $96 per hour and staying busy. Work less hard, make more money.

People I used to work for are crying the blues. Still haven't been able to hire my replacement. They now call me for service. In the span of 60 days I went from $18 with no benefits to $96 per hour. The company wants skilled experienced workers with tools and transportation. Not one person has applied. Now I'm back working for the same company doing the same work for 5 times the pay.

It's their own fault they can't find good people. Even if we wanted to we can't work for peanuts and survive. Have got to go where the money is.

$16 to $18/hour is average in my city here in Canada and we are a majority manufacturing sector dominated. The pay is way too low to get by now. You'd need minimum $25/hour and even then...better if there's a husband and wife couple without kids to try to even get by. Newcomers, Africans and Syrians, get $50 000 a year tax free from Trudeau, but after the first year the payment goes so low for them that they can't afford the rent now and they have left my building already lmao. When I moved in about 7.5 years ago the rent for me was $965 now it starts at $1795 and this doesn't include hydro or rent insurance. Luckily I locked it in so I'm only paying $1100 as of June next month but still manageable.

You raise wages or give free money and you create generalized inflation. Especially in the rental communities. People can no longer afford to have minimally livable lifestyle at $15 an hour or even with their monthly “living wage.” Rent, food and fuel all spike first. Moreover, 15 an hour businesses end up cutting staff and raising customer prices, which drives down demand and will cause some weaker (mom and pop) stores to close. So you destroy small business, while the big corporations shrug and pay the new minimum wage and cut only a smaller amount of employees from their staff.

You have just created a huge fuckin mess. But it gets worst: people who are already making $15 an hour as skilled labor will now need to earn more to survive. They will request a higher salary or have to leave their jobs and get rehired somewhere else for a higher salary. This shit goes all the way up the chain. Suddenly mid tier employees are no longer mid tier and want higher salaries, same for high tier. The only people NOT affected, as usual, are the executives.

This is why we are against raising a minimum wage a huge amount suddenly. It creates chaos, job loss, restructuring, business closures, increased prices on goods and generalized inflation all around. In the end, you find yourself right where you started before. Suddenly $15 an hour isn’t a livable wage again because of inflation and high rent demands. You fucked everything up for everyone for a few years and fuckin fixed NOTHING.

minimum wage, no matter what the hourly value is set at, is meant to be an intro wage for people to make money. It requires no learned skills, and is usually extremely repetitive in nature. It is meant as a temporary income while you get schooling in an advanced skill that is in demand. You then climb the ladder to the next income tier when you finish schooling and get a job in your field. As you get better at using that skill and learn supplementary skills you will be promoted and earn even more money. At some point you will be promoted into management where you will manage other people as they work in your skill area. Instruct them, lead them, teach them new supplementary skills you picked up along the way and make sure the work quality is at your level. You earn GREAT money for this and you are in demand due to your skill set.

This is how it works. Everyone benefits if they try hard and work hard. Sitting at minimum wage and crying and complaining that it is not a livable salary tells me just one thing: you are lazy and want more money for no more effort. You are lazy and make people in society feel sorry for your lazy lifestyle. You need to want more, do more.

I just wondered if businesses do that mega diversity hiring on their own accord or if they get some kind of monetary incentive- or if it was a requirement- of the feds or states they had their business in. I know some "rules" change once a business has over a certain number of employees or if the employees work a certain number of hours- such as the business has to start paying health insurance, etc.

Here in Canada they get preferential treatment and even on job applications they ask if you're a minority so they can bump your chance of an interview higher.
