I don't see this ever happening. It would be pointless to go to a restaurant or drive through if you can just go to the grocery store and heat it up in your microwave.

We've had this type of automated production capability for decades, yet restaurants are still alive and well. There are more elements to restaurant atmosphere than the food that comes out.

Unless it's a mom & pop, most of your restaurant food is already pre-cooked and simply heated in the back already. Even small local chains can have companies like Sysco make and pre-package their recipes.

I'm on the other side of the planet +11 hours, in a 3rd world country. This happened since Friday. What I'm hearing here, is again lack of patrons due to Covid restrictions.

Which makes sense, have you noticed the lack of people spending?

But who makes and fixes the robots once they are everywhere? I honestly fail to see the upside in this. The advantage of robotic production is scale which allow products to be sold at lower cost ultimately making more money on volume. They are not and never have been advantageous on a small scale.

Hell, the Walmart near me just took out all of the self checkouts they installed a couple years ago. They also got rid of the floor cleaning inventory robot. It seems someone management level has decided these devices are more costly to run than they are worth. I could have told you that without a fancy MBA.

Human labor is dirt cheap, even at $15/hr. Theses humans can be trained to do almost anything, are easily repurposed, never need recharging, oiling, or battery changes. They can work almost anytime for long hours. They can even autonomously make their own decisions and keep doing additional tasks with reprogramming. Amazing, huh?

Get rid of masks and testing and pay people. Then they will work. I have to wear a mask then I’m not working. And no way I’m getting tested.

Hold off on paying until you can get on your feet. Many people are just becoming nomadic.

My local Walmart here in mid-Missouri is open and busier than ever, but it's a chaotic mess. They are redoing the floors--replacing all the tiles--and things are in disarray.

Perhaps they should have closed it for remodeling, except that here in the hinterlands it's the only place within 30 miles to shop. If they closed it people would starve to death and go naked in the process.
