Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73888412 Some of the restaurants are having to close on the weekends because they dont have workers. I have never seen this before. And, it isnt like it is something that gradually started to happen. It started happening all at once. The Federal government is paying them too much money on extended unemployment so people have no incentive to go to work. This policy, although well intended at the time, is killing small businesses. bullshit no, it's not bullshit, it's the truth all of the marxist brain washing of past 50 years is taking effect people literally think that they deserve somebody to pay them for nothing, and that this can be sustained over the long term |

Why the heck would anybody want to go flip burgers when they can collect a check? Say as of June 1st Federal unemployment supplements are going back to the 2019 level. People might put on real pants and go out and see if their job is still there. |

Quoting: KRIMMY8684 I was at my salon a couple of days ago and a older guy late 50s early 60s who was semi-retired was in there. He retired from his full-time job and thought to work 10-20 hours per week at Lowe's in Cornelia until he was old enough to file for SS. He said he told them he would not work over 20 hours and just 2-3 full-time days. They started to work him 50-60 hour weeks - every single day, and he just couldn't keep it up so he quit. They can't find the help. I've heard that a lot from people who are working - just being worked to death. My mentee is in high school and works at Walmart, supposedly part-time and is getting school credit for a works program. They've got her working 40 hour weeks at 17, and she's supposed to be keeping up with her school work? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80264879 The whole minimum wage sector has burn out. If you don't force the people to pay a living wage... this is what happens. Tierd of see good people working 2 - 3 jobs to pay for the same nessecities... as the rest of the world... I see them. I know most of GLP was against the living wage, due to the egoic competitive nature of the insecurity they feel inside... but maybe people will start realizing... $15/hr would get a lot of these people back up on their OWN feet instead of unemployment. Nope... Min Wage is for jobs not meant to be paid a living wage, what is missing are good paying jobs for those to move up to from fast food so they can support themselves. Its not my responsibility to pay 20 bucks for a Big Mac so some new immigrant who is illiterate in their own language can drive a new Suburban. French Fry Technician is not the Assembly Line workers replacement position. The reason these places are closed are BECAUSE of the "living wage" people are receiving now. Stop the "stimulus" checks and make these people go back to work. Its not the stimulus, its the unempoloyment. The Stimulus at least gives the working guy a little bonus. They have extended unemployment during emergencies before, but never raised the amount to more then the rate of pay for working. The federal money needs to go away. UC needs to not be extended any further when there are so many empty jobs. I dont want to work, but I do because i have pride. I was making 1150$ a week to sit home last week for the 6 weeks we were closed down. I coulda stayed home and collected that. Im not a bum. |

I would say 1 out of 2 businesses has a now hiring sign up for multiple departments. Our stores that normally close at 10 or 11 pm are closing at 7pm or 8pm. Lines at any place that IS open are long and slow. Third world country stuff. Starting to feel a lot like some of the central American countries I have visited. Interesting times. Also, I just quit working as a project manager at a painting company. There is NO paint. We were driving literally STATES away to find paint for our jobs. |

Let's say Bob works at walmart and makes $9 an hour. Bob is now eligible for food stamps, section 8, etc. You pay for his welfare with your taxes. If you raise wages, prices are NOT going to go dramatically up. That is a fallacy pushed by rich people. If wages go up, people have more money in their pocket to spend. So no, your big mac is not going to be $10 if wages go up. More people will have more money to spend and McD's will make it up in more sales volume. |

Quoting: BFD Throw in some government money and you have a recipe for a closed economy. You can't go around scaring people half to death and then wondering why some are hiding under a rock and opting out of society. Cough and/or sneeze around many people these days and you will see an expression of abject terror on their faces. It is actually quite hilarious in one way and equally as horrifying in another way. I am certain I said this in another GLP thread sometime last year. Back in my high school years I told my mother it would be deeply hilarious one day if damn near everyone became deathly afraid of the sniffles, coughs, and even sneezes. I did not foresee the COVID-19 Plandemic. I did not know I would ultimately be proven correct either. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker.
