On the dash is a power port (for cell phones ect) plus the ashtray has a lighter (I don't smoke). The power port and the lighter blow the fuse on a regular basis (each is on a separate 20 amp fuse). I keep the cover on the power port and don't use the ashtray or lighter so it stays closed - not really an issue of getting trash in the socket. I really have only used the power port to charge a phone and the lighter socket for the same when the power port goes out. I have bought several different phone charges but they still blow fuses.... |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 83635896 United States 08/14/2022 03:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok here is one. Maybe it's easy to answer. I purchased a 2016 Ford F 150 XL (couldn't afford the T) in 2017. It is a Ecoboost system. That means it shuts off when you are in drive and stopped, with brake depressed, like at a red light, for 40 seconds or a minute. The engine turns off but all your systems remain running, like your AC. When your brake begins to come up, your engine turns back on. You can see and feel when it stops and starts as your lights and radio seem to have a tiny break in them. But you would not notice really. Quoting: sad pony My question: my husband told me to turn this function off (it's a button on the dashboard to deactivate) as he would rather pay more for gas than have to replace a starter or ignition. Sometimes at red lights the truck may cycle thru this 4 or 5 times starting up each time. Do you think starters and ignitions are made longer lasting for all these extra starts and stops? Does it affect my alternator too? I do always turn it off as my husband told me too. Does it matter? Will it wear out my starter, alternator, and stuff like that faster? You should listen to your husband. Yep. Turn off that function unless you want to pay a mechanic $160 an hour plus the cost of a new starter. They did beef up the starters for this duty cycle of stop start cars. |

However - ever since then I randomly get this loud obnoxious low level “hum” sound has nothing to do with radio volume or weather it’s on or off but I did eventually determine it’s actually coming from the speakers. And on further investigation I learned that this truck has active noise cancelation and it actually pumps engine noise into the speakers (make the truck sound mean I guess idk). But what ever I did replacing the cluster components mucked the system up. Upon further research I have learned many people who mess around with the radio in my truck run into this same problem and they have a solution but it kinda scares me. If you flip to about 4 min into this video it will explain, they are basically disabling the system that is responsible for active noise cancelation. What are your thoughts on this ? Shameless one time bump :) Ground loop noise is my best guess. A ground loop isolation unit will fix it on an old school car stereo. The modern stuff is all so integrated and convoluted that I have no idea if it would solve your problem. Hopefully DT knows more about it than I do. |

Quoting: Professional Amateur When I was 20 years old I worked in a factory that assembled fan clutches. I was the fastest assembler with the most accurate quality. Side note, check the thermostat, if that's good then it's probably the fan clutch. Thermostat It will not run hot when idling and cool at highway speed unless then fan clutch is fucked up. At speedd it does not require a fan I have this exact problem! My husband says "thermostat". But regarding fan clutch ... could the fan still be running if the clutch is shot? When my car does this, I turn it off and the sound of the fan is clearly audible so the fan is definitely running. Yes the fan will still spin, but fan clutches have an actual thermostat (spring) and oil in them, so when it heats up, the spring contracts and opens a valve to make it spin faster. When they go, it's usually a bearing on the shaft that's gone bad. |

User ID: 80193276 United States 08/14/2022 04:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK, I'll ask a question. I have a 2015 Honda Crosstour with the 3.5 engine. It has the variable cylinder cutout function so that it will turn off 2 or 3 cylinders when the power is not needed. I bought a little kit that disables this feature. The mileage might have gotten 1 mpg worse. But the power increase is incredible. I bought the function delete kit because I don't like the idea of a camshaft changing configurations 10 times a minute or whatever. Just seems like a really bad design. Also I have heard that the cylinders wear prematurely in the ones that it turns off. Any thoughts or concerns? The kit fakes out the coolant temperature sensor that is used to prevent the feature from working during warm-up. The Coolant temperature gauge still works, but the ECO light never comes on now, and the power is always there. Way overpowered for such a light vehicle. I think it is just under 300 HP. BTW it's a 2005, it doesn't have the TPMS radio thingies. I don't know how it works, maybe counts the revolutions or something. Quoting: Hoseman Any ideas? Could they have damaged something whilst rotating the tires? I doubt they damaged them unless they took your tires off the rims. Most TPMS systems only use 3 body sensors to detect the 4 tire sensors. They do this through triangulation. If a tire has a weak battery in a sensor and got moved to a farther point away from the receiver it might not be picking it up. The Autel MX sensors are cheap and most shops have a tool that will program them. The tool can also diagnose the sensors on the car. AFAIK doesn't have the radio/battery things. |
