Hey DT. hope you are well. 97 Dakota R/T 5.9 9400 actual miles. mirrors actually sing at 122 MPH... any suggestions? cool you do these threads, it helps more people than you think. TH.
 Quoting: Teslahowitzer 77429904

Fold them in. At that speed who cares what's behind you?

chuckle

My Volt has a horrible buffeting when the front windows are down around 40 MPH. Sounds like when you roll down the back windows only on most cars. WOMP WOMP WOMP WOMP

Chevy offers a little skull cap for the mirror that has a little spoiler on it to deflect the air and stop the cabin oscillations. Something like that might help.

How many miles between a “Transmission Fluid Flush?” If the fluid is a clear gray color, is that an indicator?

USUALLY water in the system, transmission drain is letting in water

Thank you... I was told the fluid is not pink, but looking dirty. That it should be changed every 45,000 miles... Cost = $185.00 ~~ I don’t trust these people.

DON'T flush it. change it.

Dump it out of the pan and dump it out of the torque convertor but DO NOT flush it , period. 100 percent of time you will have IMMEDIATE problems with the transmission if has any miles on it.

Rebuilt 389 in a 64 Grand Prix
Runs hot when idle and on city streets gets to temp 200-210
On open road cools and runs about 180. Brakes tend to tweak left as well..
Has Original radiator thinking to reflush, all ready did once.
Best Options?
New water pump?
 Quoting: Rex84 74942119

210 isn't hot. New cars won't even turn the fans on until 225. A 180 degree thermostat only opens at 180 degrees. If the cooling system can't shed enough heat at idle you'll reach your thermal delta.

My truck has tons of cooling and I've played with 160, 180, and 195 degree thermostats. Like you, I can't hold the thermostat temp with the 165 and the 180 until I start going down the road. With the 195 my temps stay steady all the time, so I left the 195 in there. It also got rid of my milky oil sludge under the cap.

I have an 04 Dodge Dakota with 78k miles on it.

Engine (3.7L v6) and transmission are great. Needs tires and brakes, body and interior are nasty.

Someone come get this vehicle. $500

Surely someone needs an engine. I need to get the truck gone, taking up space.
 Quoting: OU8122

You are kidding? If it is RUNNING under its own power it is worth 2000, even if it is shedding two puonds of rusted bodywork a mile
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84015048

If someone put brake all around and bought new tires the vehicle and did not care about how it looks it would be a steal.

I bought it 05 drove it daily for 5 years and then bought a new vehicle. Kept the truck as a "farm truck" used it to take trash cans down to the street once a week. The sun did a job on the paint and the tires. I now take trash down using my ATV.

I have no need for this truck but because it currently can not be driven away because of tire and brake issue no one will come get it on a flat bed.

The power steering gave up because of the fucked up vibration.

NO neither of these vehicles is "safe to drive" until the cause of the excessive vibration is isolated and eliminated.

I’ve got a diesel RV that’s been sitting for two years.
Do I need to flush the fuel system or do anything else before I try to start it again?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79010667

No
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73594220

My Xbf bought a Kenworth for 800 bucks (no title) that had been sitting in a repair yard for 12 years since the owner failed to ever pay for it.

2 new batteries & 3 gallons of diesel & it cranked right up!

Man who owned the yard had been pipelining for years, not running the shop & it was just sitting there. The X bugged him about selling it to him so much & so long he did.

X later found paperwork of the owner & looked him up & he signed it over to him. Owner was thankful for not having it on his credit report.

I was really shocked he was just able to drive it off the yard no problem after sitting up so long.blink

1984 Ford Bronco full-size. It stalls and dies after it heats up. I’ve relaxed the carburetor, it does have a vacuum leak I can’t find. Could a vacuum leak cause the stalking? It stalls and dies every time I drive it. If I try to get gas at the gas station, just to get home I have to keep my foot in the gas even at a stop.
 Quoting: no-one-special

Check your gas tank vent. A lot of people like to ditch the charcoal can and leave the vent pipe open, which then becomes a home for a mud dauber wasp, blocking it. WIth the vent blocked, the tank goes into a vacuum and won't pull fuel for the engine.

Try driving it with the gas cap off. If it helps you know what to do.

Four tires and getting the brakes working good enough to drive is a 2 hour job if you have a clear title. I am retired, so I don't jump of every opportunity like I used to.

had a muffler replaced on my GMC terrain. Ever since the replacement there is a significant vibration inside the vehicle (steering wheel & dash) which slightly subsides the longer it is driven.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78430146

Needs to be adjusted. I'd loosen up a few clamps and give it a big wiggle to get it to relax then tighten it back up.

Re: Fix it Sunday... Master Mechanic, ask me anything!
Alright. I have a good one. 2019 Ram 1500 tradesman 5.7 hemi…. It came
With the shitty little 3 inch screen radio which I upgraded to the 8.3 touch screen / CarPlay / android auto XM and nav dual climate control all that. Ordered the parts and cables from a salvage yard had a dealer reprogram the BCU that all works fine. However - ever since then I randomly get this loud obnoxious low level “hum” sound has nothing to do with radio volume or weather it’s on or off but I did eventually determine it’s actually coming from the speakers. And on further investigation I learned that this truck has active noise cancelation and it actually pumps engine noise into the speakers (make the truck sound mean I guess idk). But what ever I did replacing the cluster components mucked the system up. Upon further research I have learned many people who mess around with the radio in my truck run into this same problem and they have a solution but it kinda scares me. If you flip to about 4 min into this video it will explain, they are basically disabling the system that is responsible for active noise cancelation. What are your thoughts on this ?

Have a weird periodic grinding sound when turning my wheel slowly at first start up.

Rhythmic rubbing that goes away with driving.

Brand new brake pads.

Warped rotors rubbing pads?
 Quoting: WhiskeyBunker

Could be the backing plate... I've seen a few rotors machined wrong so they cause the caliper to slide back and forth.

Also if there's chatter, or a record cut groove in the rotor it can cause noises and vibrations, even caliper pop, which is when the pads follow the spiral groove like a record player and snap back into place.

I have a honda 2010 crv

It vibrates at idle .

replaced
plugs
all coil packs
4 fuel injectors
all motor mounts
KN filter

Honda dealer told me some models in this year have that characteristic, the only thing I have not done was check the compression.

Once I get rolling the vibration stops car runs like a top otherwise I get 26 to 29 miles to the gallon not sure what to do after this.
 Quoting: Cuban_Death_Grip

4 cylinders are horrible at idle. My wife's car, the steering wheel turns into a blur with the AC on.

If the mounts didn't fix it there's not much else. Perhaps look at the exhaust and see if it's moving excessively.

My truck used to vibrate when it was cold and it stopped on it on.
The suspension of the exhaust in new SUVS is a "critical alignment" procedure and people try to just hang it and forget it like we did in the olden days. Just the wrong torque on the exhaust manifold bolts can cause vibration to be transmitted to the body of the vehicle.

Have a 2008 Mitsu Eclipse with transmission issue. Nephew was driving and the clutch pedal wouldn't lift off the floor after stopping at an intersection. He and a friend bled and re-tightened the cylinder. That got the pedal working again, but now the car won't go into reverse and is very hard to get into first. He claims he checked fluid levels and did the bleed properly, but I can't verify. He hasn't checked linkages because they are not visible without taking out the battery and battery shelf.

What do you think are the most likely causes of this? Was driving an shifting OK before this happened.
