Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 83635896 United States 08/14/2022 01:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A year ago the check engine light kept coming on in my 2007 Honda Odyssey. Quoting: An Uncarved Block I took it into the Honda dealer who gave me some bullshit about using cheap octane gas and it allowed carbon buildup in the engine and they said it needed to be scrubbed out. $1900 later and a few months go buy and check engine light on again. Same problem. Went to local auto shop and they hooked up their diagnostic tool and said it was carbon not firing and burning proper. Bought a $9 bottle of something to put in the gas. Light turned off for a while and back on again now. What Should I do? What could the real problem be? Hard to tell. Do you know what code it was throwing? Hondas were notorious for blocking up the EGR passages with carbon. Then you'd have only one passage in operation and it would cause a misfire on that cylinder with surging and stumbling when the EGR came on during light cruise. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72662529 United States 08/14/2022 02:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have an old lawnmower that I cannot get the screws off the carburetor to change carb out for a new one. I have soaked the screws in oil and left overnight, but they still wont They now have stripped phillips heads. How should I proceed? Should I cut the tops off? What is your suggestion? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70232357 Phillips heads are perfect for drilling. You've already got a perfect centered divot. Make sure your drill is larger than the screw threads. All you need to do is get the head to pop off. then with the carb out of the way it's easy work with pliars or vice grips getting the screws out. Could also try vise grips to remove the screws, with the head on. They usually aren't really that hard to turn but the screws are softer than the screw driver, so they strip easily. |

Any thoughts on causes/solutions before I take it to the shop? Thank you Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82253669 The transmission is on that side of the vehicle. I believe that model had electric power steering, so it's important to identify what kind of oil is leaking. Engine? (amber or black) Transmission? (dark red) A/C oil? (bright green to amber) |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 83635896 United States 08/14/2022 02:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why do so many mechanic's "diagnose" your problem then supposedly "fix" the problem only to have them tell you....OOPS, that fix didn't work. Then they tell you it is this and charge even more money having performed work that did not need to be done in the first place? Why is this legal? It's called shotgunning. Lazy mechanics do this when they don't diagnose the problem properly. Don't get me wrong, I've had egg on my face a few times from a tricky problem but I don't lie about it, and if you're careful with the part and box most parts places don't give you a hard time if you "tried" the part out trying to get a car fixed. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40246196 A good 12 volt lead acid car battery has 12.6 volts while the car is NOT running. If the alternator isn't charging the battery, it will gradually lose voltage and the car will die when running. "Dies while driving" is the key here, it's the alternator |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 83635896 United States 08/14/2022 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to the Toyota dealer for scheduled maintenance a few weeks ago, which included tire rotation. The same day I got the car back the low tire pressure light came on. Even though they marked all tires at 32 psi one of them was 28. I inflated back to 32 but the light keeps coming on. BTW it's a 2005, it doesn't have the TPMS radio thingies. I don't know how it works, maybe counts the revolutions or something. Quoting: Hoseman Any ideas? Could they have damaged something whilst rotating the tires? I doubt they damaged them unless they took your tires off the rims. Most TPMS systems only use 3 body sensors to detect the 4 tire sensors. They do this through triangulation. If a tire has a weak battery in a sensor and got moved to a farther point away from the receiver it might not be picking it up. The Autel MX sensors are cheap and most shops have a tool that will program them. The tool can also diagnose the sensors on the car. |

First question is how do i stop her from pulling the front right tire off the ground when i take off..I do have traction bars and custom sway bars front and back and i also welded frame connectors as my car was tweaking and cracking my windshield. Blows like shit. Has a hard time cooling. Cleaned out the evap under the dash. It did have alot of dirt and leaves but I got it out then hit it with coil cleaner. Helped airflow but its not as cold. What can I do? Should I replace the compressor? Condensor? Evac the system and refill it? Water in the freon? Also, its a 2 door so no rear ac, would a compressor that is meant for rear ac have more oomph or is this me thinking stupid? Ty. Need to put a set of gauges on it. If the system had a leak and got fed a diet of diy refrigerant with the oil and sealant for a few years than the system could be flooded with oil or sealant. if it never had a vacuum put to it while filling it could be filled with non condensables. There should only be refrigerant and the specified amount of oil. Anything else is taking up space and interfering with the operation of heat transfer. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83936664 Thanks Your best bet is to bring the pistons and rings to the machine shop with the block so the machinist can fit them properly, with the right finish. I'd go with the chrome moly rings and insist on a torque plate used for final honing. When lining up rings just kind of space the gaps out and don't put any ends on the thrust side. |
