I'd replace the cat before it disintegrates or causes an obstruction which will leave you stranded. i already fixed this problem by punching a huge hole before the cat i need to get in there and remove the fancy metal heat sheild that is on the entire exhaust system but its so old and rusted i'll have to cut it off You need that heat shield it keeps the heat from the cat/exhaust from affecting the plastic/rubber components in the engine bay. Go to Pick ur part and get another one or try ebay. A new one will break your bank account. even if i cut it off i would use wire to bring it all back together i already had to remove the exhaust manifold to get a stuck oil filter out and had to re-attach the heatshield using wire many many thousands of miles later its still holding up but thank you for the info no other older car ive had |

User ID: 79313127 United States 08/14/2022 12:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Been working on a 1985 Dodge W150, with a 318 engine. I drove it down to the barn, and backed it in, last August. The pickup doesn't have a computer, instead it has the electronic control module option. It was leaving a trail of oil, dripping out about 5 quarts of oil in the 15 mile hill climb back to the farm. Figured it was blowing oil through a stiff front crankshaft seal, so I thought I should replace it. While the timing cover was off, I found about an inch of deflection on the timing chain. Replaced the timing chain and gears, and used new gaskets to re-assemble everything. While apart cleaned off whatever came off the engine and painted them with tractor paint, except the electrical parts. I was certain that after such an easy repair, that it would fire right up. Nope, it won't start. Took off the distributor cap and noted that the rotor was 180 degrees off from where it's supposed to be. I found this surprising, since it was starting up easily and getting about 10 mpg, before the replacement of the timing gear assembly. Used the dealership's manual to completely check out the ignition system, finding that the engine gets hot spark, at the time each cylinder needs it. It still won't start. Tried lifting up the distributor and setting it back down, so the number one tower is over the rotor, ready to deliver a spark to it. It still won't start. Lifted up and put the distributor back where it was. Checked for spark at the plugs, and it is. But, it still won't start. Bought new plug wires and coil, replaced all the spark plugs, found the old plugs were somewhat oil fouled and gapped in the range of 0.053 No start yet. Figured somehow I had wrongly reassembled the timing chain assembly, so I tore it all down to where I started, and put it all back together again, to prove that I did it right the first time. Replaced the starter with a new one, figuring the old one wasn't spinning fast enough, even though the old starter was spinning the engine fast enough to start it before. It sounds different now, because the parts store upgraded the design of the starter. Nope, not starting, yet. Somehow since last August, the battery fails to hold a charge, and exchanged it for a new one day before yesterday. It's almost August again, and I would like to haul some hay with the truck. Edit: Replaced the fuel filter, and took the top off the carburetor to see if it had the proper level of fuel and if there was water in there. Sent away for a cqrb kit, and they sent the wrong one despite it having the same numbers. Right box, but wrong kit inside. It's getting a bit frustrating that I have yet to get it running. “Queen Sarah, save us from the Black Dog King!” - from the play, Dissocia [link to tasaonline.org.au (secure)] "Never be anyone's French poodle." - Mr Hamilton |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77889024 United States 08/14/2022 12:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank you. I have a 2012 rav4 base model 4cyl. I mainly city drive, but anytime I hit the large bridges in my city the engine light blinks as I accelerate up to about 45mph on the incline. It blinks a minute (with a couple other dash lights turning on), then turns off. After a few trips over these bridges the lights stay on, but the engine light will blink every time I go up the slight incline when I reach about 45mph. And the car loses a little power when it blinks. A code says it was a cylinder 2 misfire. I changed that coil and spark plug, but it continues to happen. The car also has an engine leak at the intake where I need to add about a half a quart a week or quart every couple hundred miles. There's never any oil under the engine so it's burning off somehow, or dripping while driving only. I've read that this car had an engine issue with piston seals. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

I have no start condition with dash saying powersteering, traction control, service esc, low fuel(halftank in there). I have changed fuse box and then new pre programmed ECU and still not starting. I have tested starter, battery and connections to it,grounds, relays, fuses, fuel pump relay and fuel pump, my friend used his scanner and can system is working so is bcm. His snap on scanner had a u2105 code but my autel has u0100 coming up.i also tested all of the connectors for shorts cleaned them and put dielectric grease on them. I am so stumped with why the car isnt starting, the only thing I'm thinking now is the igntion switch but my mechanic buddy doesnt think it's that. I've been working on it for 2 weeks now and dont know what to do from here. I would appreciate your any input or suggestions. Thanks Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79972621 Cranks over or no crank. Anonymous Coward User ID: 80144523 United States 08/14/2022 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, I'll give this a shot because so far four different Toyota dealerships have been unable to resolve this issue. Vehicle: 2008 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission. 238,000 miles, original engine and transmission. I am a Nazi when it comes to preventative maintenance, so I take care of my vehicles. Issue: When I hit ~2,500 RPM in 4th gear and engage the clutch, the throttle sticks at 2,500 RPM for approximately five to ten seconds and then very slowly starts to wind down to normal. If I punch the accelerator it unsticks and returns to normal. Problem: IT ONLY DOES THIS IN 4TH GEAR. If I reach 2,500 RPM in any other gear and engage the clutch it behaves perfectly normally. I can reproduce this at will. Repairs made so far by various dealerships: - Disassemble, inspect, and clean throttle assembly - no problems found - Clutch replacement (An unnecessary repair that I ended up not paying for when I complained - that's a different thread) - Head gasket replacement (for a different problem, but interestingly enough, it made a difference for about two weeks and then it came back) At this point I am half tempted to just take it in and tell them to replace the throttle assembly even though they say there's nothing wrong with it. My big question is why does it only do it in 4th gear? How could throttle "know" what gear I'm in? Good luck, and thanks! 4 cylinder or 6? It sounds like rev hang. It's programmed in for emissions, and Toyota's were so bad about it the aftermarket developed boxes to alleviate it.
