It's kind of fun to do the impossible. User ID: 83702605 United States 08/14/2022 11:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 2022 Toyota Corolla SE. Bought new from dealer. Behavior before dealer took a look: left rear makes a noise like parking break stuck when i would break normally over 45 mph. Would happen once a day, every day. Then nothing unless it sat at least overnight. Never did it a second time after first and only occurrence of the day. Quoting: Maiya Dealer did test drive where nothing was heard, removed left rear wheel and said they checked “everything” says they found nothing wrong. Car still makes same noise but is inconsistent after dealer appointment. Not every day like before. All software up to date. brake pad noise ? nothing to worry about if it only happens while you are braking and the brakes work properly I had the same thought in the beginning. Car now has several thousand miles on it. I have had it for months now. Owned lots of cars in my 59 years. Never seen this issue. They never thought she would lose. Now they all lose. |

Your best most economic move is to find a wrecked Corolla with a good low miles engine i have a good amount of tools, socket sets, wrenches etc don't have a micrometer .. or very specialized tools also i don't have an engine crane or a stand, an engine crane is about $250, an engine stand probably about $150 You are going to run into alot of specialized tools you don't have Some auto parts stores like Autozone and O'Reilly's have a tool loan program. You have to put down a deposit for the price of the tool but you get it back if you return it in working condition. You have to be careful thought, some of the more delicate tools might have been damaged by previous users. I got compression testers from both places and they both didn't register any compression at all. Maybe try watching some YouTubes on engine rebuilds. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12524540 United States 08/14/2022 12:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Riff-Raff Okay, I'll give this a shot because so far four different Toyota dealerships have been unable to resolve this issue. Vehicle: 2008 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission. 238,000 miles, original engine and transmission. I am a Nazi when it comes to preventative maintenance, so I take care of my vehicles. Issue: When I hit ~2,500 RPM in 4th gear and engage the clutch, the throttle sticks at 2,500 RPM for approximately five to ten seconds and then very slowly starts to wind down to normal. If I punch the accelerator it unsticks and returns to normal. Problem: IT ONLY DOES THIS IN 4TH GEAR. If I reach 2,500 RPM in any other gear and engage the clutch it behaves perfectly normally. I can reproduce this at will. Repairs made so far by various dealerships: - Disassemble, inspect, and clean throttle assembly - no problems found - Clutch replacement (An unnecessary repair that I ended up not paying for when I complained - that's a different thread) - Head gasket replacement (for a different problem, but interestingly enough, it made a difference for about two weeks and then it came back) At this point I am half tempted to just take it in and tell them to replace the throttle assembly even though they say there's nothing wrong with it. My big question is why does it only do it in 4th gear? How could throttle "know" what gear I'm in? Good luck, and thanks! 4 cylinder or 6? It sounds like rev hang. It's programmed in for emissions, and Toyota's were so bad about it the aftermarket developed boxes to alleviate it. [link to www.toyotanation.com (secure)] Had the dealer tried a software update? 4 cylinder. No dealership has mentioned anything about a software update. Okay, another question now: If this is programmed by design, why did it start doing it all of a sudden 14 years after I purchased it? It hasn't always done this. Could some dealer have performed a software update that caused it in the first place?? Replace the throttle body. Happened on my toyo...design flaw on the flap making it "stick." I think there was a TSB on it. I had my guy replace it and reprogram....always reprogram. |

Nah...it's a faulty expansion valve that's leaking which is causing your a/c to cycle on and off. Replace valve then refill with 134A. Don't do it yourself! 134A is toxic, unlike R12. User ID: 73809084 United States 08/14/2022 12:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok here is one. Maybe it's easy to answer. I purchased a 2016 Ford F 150 XL (couldn't afford the T) in 2017. It is a Ecoboost system. That means it shuts off when you are in drive and stopped, with brake depressed, like at a red light, for 40 seconds or a minute. The engine turns off but all your systems remain running, like your AC. When your brake begins to come up, your engine turns back on. You can see and feel when it stops and starts as your lights and radio seem to have a tiny break in them. But you would not notice really. My question: my husband told me to turn this function off (it's a button on the dashboard to deactivate) as he would rather pay more for gas than have to replace a starter or ignition. Sometimes at red lights the truck may cycle thru this 4 or 5 times starting up each time. Do you think starters and ignitions are made longer lasting for all these extra starts and stops? Does it affect my alternator too? I do always turn it off as my husband told me too. Does it matter? Will it wear out my starter, alternator, and stuff like that faster? |
