Quoting: An Uncarved Block I took it into the Honda dealer who gave me some bullshit about using cheap octane gas and it allowed carbon buildup in the engine and they said it needed to be scrubbed out. $1900 later and a few months go buy and check engine light on again. Same problem. Went to local auto shop and they hooked up their diagnostic tool and said it was carbon not firing and burning proper. Bought a $9 bottle of something to put in the gas. Light turned off for a while and back on again now. What Should I do? What could the real problem be? Is it the V-TEC Engine? Does it go into limp mode? I have soaked the screws in oil and left overnight, but they still wont They now have stripped phillips heads. How should I proceed? Should I cut the tops off? What is your suggestion? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70232357 You sure they are Phillips? I just got an old wood chipper with a 8hp Tecumseh engine. I almost stripped one of the screws that hold on the air filter plate. I thought it was Phillips, then I thought it was Torx, then I discovered it is hex (like Allen). Can you fit vise-grips on them? If you have a Dremel tool maybe try cutting a slot for a blade screwdriver. |

Just take like 6 Tylenol and take a nap first , and then maybe another nap afterwards. |

I’ve relaxed the carburetor, it does have a vacuum leak I can’t find. Could a vacuum leak cause the stalking? It stalls and dies every time I drive it. If I try to get gas at the gas station, just to get home I have to keep my foot in the gas even at a stop. |

Cancelling Tomorrow User ID: 83877239 United States 08/14/2022 10:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, I'll give this a shot because so far four different Toyota dealerships have been unable to resolve this issue. Vehicle: 2008 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission. 238,000 miles, original engine and transmission. I am a Nazi when it comes to preventative maintenance, so I take care of my vehicles. Issue: When I hit ~2,500 RPM in 4th gear and engage the clutch, the throttle sticks at 2,500 RPM for approximately five to ten seconds and then very slowly starts to wind down to normal. If I punch the accelerator it unsticks and returns to normal. Problem: IT ONLY DOES THIS IN 4TH GEAR. If I reach 2,500 RPM in any other gear and engage the clutch it behaves perfectly normally. I can reproduce this at will. Repairs made so far by various dealerships: - Disassemble, inspect, and clean throttle assembly - no problems found - Clutch replacement (An unnecessary repair that I ended up not paying for when I complained - that's a different thread) - Head gasket replacement (for a different problem, but interestingly enough, it made a difference for about two weeks and then it came back) At this point I am half tempted to just take it in and tell them to replace the throttle assembly even though they say there's nothing wrong with it. My big question is why does it only do it in 4th gear? How could throttle "know" what gear I'm in? Good luck, and thanks! Assuming this is a standard transmission, skip 4th gear and go to 5th or shift to 5th before 2500 rpms. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79010667 Do I need to flush the fuel system or do anything else before I try to start it again? No. But after you get it running I'd treat it to an oil change and fresh fuel filters. Look in the air filter housing before you start it in case there's a rat nest. |
