Re: Fix it Sunday... Master Mechanic, ask me anything!
A year ago the check engine light kept coming on in my 2007 Honda Odyssey.

I took it into the Honda dealer who gave me some bullshit about using cheap octane gas and it allowed carbon buildup in the engine and they said it needed to be scrubbed out. $1900 later and a few months go buy and check engine light on again. Same problem. Went to local auto shop and they hooked up their diagnostic tool and said it was carbon not firing and burning proper. Bought a $9 bottle of something to put in the gas.

Light turned off for a while and back on again now.

What Should I do? What could the real problem be?

I have an old lawnmower that I cannot get the screws off the carburetor to change carb out for a new one. I have soaked the screws in oil and left overnight, but they still wont They now have stripped phillips heads. How should I proceed? Should I cut the tops off? What is your suggestion?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70232357

You sure they are Phillips? I just got an old wood chipper with a 8hp Tecumseh engine. I almost stripped one of the screws that hold on the air filter plate. I thought it was Phillips, then I thought it was Torx, then I discovered it is hex (like Allen).

Can you fit vise-grips on them? If you have a Dremel tool maybe try cutting a slot for a blade screwdriver.

Rebuilt 389 in a 64 Grand Prix
Runs hot when idle and on city streets gets to temp 200-210
On open road cools and runs about 180. Brakes tend to tweak left as well..
Has Original radiator thinking to reflush, all ready did once.
Best Options?
New water pump?

How does one fix the gas tank pressure?
When putting in gas it either stops or overflows.

It’s vise-grips and get new screws , they all seem to need that . Just take like 6 Tylenol and take a nap first , and then maybe another nap afterwards.

1984 Ford Bronco full-size. It stalls and dies after it heats up. I’ve relaxed the carburetor, it does have a vacuum leak I can’t find. Could a vacuum leak cause the stalking? It stalls and dies every time I drive it. If I try to get gas at the gas station, just to get home I have to keep my foot in the gas even at a stop.

Flow seems good, still breaking engine in. Idles clean, steady.
Have a small fan to help cool but still gets to 200 at stoplight or in 30 mph zone

Let's do this.

cfbutt
 Quoting: DieselTech

Okay, I'll give this a shot because so far four different Toyota dealerships have been unable to resolve this issue.

Vehicle: 2008 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission. 238,000 miles, original engine and transmission. I am a Nazi when it comes to preventative maintenance, so I take care of my vehicles.

Issue: When I hit ~2,500 RPM in 4th gear and engage the clutch, the throttle sticks at 2,500 RPM for approximately five to ten seconds and then very slowly starts to wind down to normal. If I punch the accelerator it unsticks and returns to normal.

Problem: IT ONLY DOES THIS IN 4TH GEAR. If I reach 2,500 RPM in any other gear and engage the clutch it behaves perfectly normally. I can reproduce this at will.

Repairs made so far by various dealerships:
- Disassemble, inspect, and clean throttle assembly - no problems found
- Clutch replacement (An unnecessary repair that I ended up not paying for when I complained - that's a different thread)
- Head gasket replacement (for a different problem, but interestingly enough, it made a difference for about two weeks and then it came back)

At this point I am half tempted to just take it in and tell them to replace the throttle assembly even though they say there's nothing wrong with it. My big question is why does it only do it in 4th gear? How could throttle "know" what gear I'm in?

Good luck, and thanks!
 Quoting: Riff-Raff

Assuming this is a standard transmission, skip 4th gear and go to 5th or shift to 5th before 2500 rpms.

I’ve got a diesel RV that’s been sitting for two years.
Do I need to flush the fuel system or do anything else before I try to start it again?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79010667

No. But after you get it running I'd treat it to an oil change and fresh fuel filters. Look in the air filter housing before you start it in case there's a rat nest.

I have a honda 2010 crv

It vibrates at idle .

replaced
plugs
all coil packs
4 fuel injectors
all motor mounts
KN filter

Honda dealer told me some models in this year have that characteristic, the only thing I have not done was check the compression.

Once I get rolling the vibration stops car runs like a top otherwise I get 26 to 29 miles to the gallon not sure what to do after this.
