Keep your mouth shut and be polite. Only answer questions relating to your identity. Never answer anything else, period. If they ask if you know why they pulled you over say. No. If they say "Did you know that was a crime?" Don't say anything and request your paperwork. Politely thank them and be about your way. Just know that police will only ever escalate a situation. They are not trained to deescalate without using physical restraint. If you are arrested do not fight them. They will tack a boatload of shit onto your charges. VERY good advice! They warn folks that anything they say CAN and WILL be used against them in the court of law. Also, we don't know what kind of tense crap an officer may have put up with before he got to you. So, it is wise to help you and the officer by being as calm as possible, answer the proper questions, and help put him more at ease. You surely don't want to present another tense situation that would put him (or any other human for that matter) on guard unnecessarily. |
