BREAKING! Air Asia lost contact with Flight QZ8501 over Indonesia!!

Here I were thinking the weather were controlled.

A320-200 is basically the Airbus answer to the Boeing 737-700/800's
Probably closer in size and capacity to the 737-400 but the airbus has a nicer cockpit.
A320 is fly by wire which many prefer for ease of use, though the a320 has had dozens of instances of glass cockpit blackout. That would be a serious WTF moment. Having one major instrument fail like say altemeter or air speed would certainly have catastrophic potential, but to have a total blackout of all display units.... Fuck.

ok this really stinks, there is obviously something going on behind the scenes. This cannot be accidental....someone please figure out what is going on with this.

I think that is a different plane. It's identified as PX-AXI. The plane that is missing is PX-AXC.

right, so their radar cant see storms and they have to leave it to us to hypothesise about storms?

cmon guys and gals....

every headline says, 'plane lost contact'. nothing more nothing less. if it was due to a storm this is/was easily reportable instantly.

If the weather was really really bad, then why didn't the pilot report it to the air control tower?

Good point! They should have said the missing aircraft is... Sounds like the plan is that it will not be found.

I mean two from the same area of the world....very suspicious indeed. It reminds me of the twin towers, heard the first plane was an accident and turned on the tv just in time to see the second hit. When it did we all knew it was not accidental at all.

The irony of the NYE image in your signature to a story of a hijacked plane is almost prophetic and extremely creepy.

The max range of an Airbus A-320 is about 6 hours of flight time with a full load of pax and full fuel.Or about 2700 nautical miles.
That area has NASTY weather. I have flown through that area many times and some storms grow incredibly fast.

It also has volcanic activity. A 747 lost all four engines going through a cloud of volcanic ash years ago. Do not know if any ash advisories were issued.

Finally, and I expect to get flamed for this but the statistics will prove it, the quality of pilots varies wildly by country. In any airline overseas the capability of crew members is very uneven. As well as maintenance personel.

It may be a hijacking,a terrorist event,bad weather,sabotage, volcanic ash,bad pilotage or a combination of them all.

Eh, it'd have to take a typhoon to bring down an airbus. Even then the pilot would've/should've reported hostile weather and turned around.
