Someone with more aviation knowledge might be able to verify, but Iam pretty sure to get max range the aircraft needs to be flying at a substantial altitude thus making it visible to radar? Aircraft cannot "turn off the radar". They can turn off their identifying transponder, but this aircraft was well with radar coverage of Indonesia. No, you do not need to be at high altitude for a radar return. It's almost certainly down. |
