This is America! This is slavery!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79390582

The scary thing is America is almost completely sponsored by the government. That little bit of peanuts they throw at the poor for welfare actually drives the economy and pays the wages in China and other economies that produce cheap goods so the poor consumers can buy. What you believe is a dollar is a federal reserve note or the worlds biggest freaking welfare check. Even when you have a good job that pays good. Your pay check funds still goes through a extremely complex borrowing fraud and regardless of how well off you believe you are your income still ads to the national debt. sooo

Not only that but the system is set up to maintain this situation.
If she gets a better job, she will lose any help she is getting. Meanwhile affordable housing is not close to better jobs or affordable groceries..imagine having to choose between $3 crap food at the convenience store or taking half a day, a long walk or a bus ride, to shop and get apples and eggs and bread for $3 at the supermarket? People are trapped into these situations. When a few extraordinary individuals do manage to escape, either by fortune or enduring extreme duress, we hold them up as examples rather than saying ' it shouldn't have to be this difficult.'

Society here, and pretty much everywhere is currently broken.

These folks created these situations.

And how many supermarkets are rebuilding after the riot bullshit in minneapolis last year? None that I've heard.
Burn down your fuckin' grocery stores... don't come whining when businesses don't reopen.

Also we repeatedly heard rioters&looters ("protestors" LOL) say "Well dey got insurance"..
Guess what happens to insurance cost& availability in crime ridden areas after stores are looted or burned to the ground. Nobodywants to provide insurance at any cost!

Fuck off. You don't get to destroy your neighbor hood (even black owned shops) and whine about the "unfairness" later.

Re: This is $7.50 an hour life
I'll go down to my local post office and apply for a job. I bet within a week or two they will call me up and be begging for me to come and work. Why? I don't have a college degree, but I did graduate from college. I'm retired and loving life. Yet this poor lady won't even try to do better for herself. I wonder why she has that mindset. If she has child care then she should not have a part time job. She should be actively looking for a full time job. Thus coming back to the post office, she could probably get on there and begin to make some serious cash.

Too bad her life circumstances won't allow her to get hired. She might be a great employee, if she only will try....harder.
 Quoting: Tynyyn

Maybe there aren't many jobs in her area. Maybe she cannot afford transit to another part of town.

Do you think Jesus would mock her?
 Quoting: Happy in Nature

Honestly, I don't think he was mocking her, just stating a fact. Like I said earlier, raising her wages to $15 will do nothing for her, they will just cut her welfare.

Do you know how many working poor there are? Those moms and dads don't have as nice a place as her and probably less food and NO medical, and they don't get to spend all their time with their kids as she clearly does since she's only working a few hours. What would Jesus think about the working poor being snubbed on a daily basis?
 Quoting: Keilani

My mom worked three minimum wage jobs in FL and couldn't qualify for assistance while my black high school gym teacher drove a Lincoln and supplemented her income with food stamps.

I grew up in Vermont, home of the Welfare Queen. I am 100% against this lifestyle.

I also know many people who needed a couple years of assistance to get on their feet. I would rather pay out welfare benefits to keep kids fed and sheltered rather than making them homeless.

Many kids go to public schools just to get breakfast and lunch. The Democrats created ghettos with their pubic housing. The schools are a reflection of the neighborhood. The businesses are a reflection of the neighborhood. It is very hard to get out of this situation. Not impossible, but not as simple as getting a better job.

A handful of people control most of the resources in the world, and yet we blame the poor for being poor.

If a wealthy person gets pregnant and has a baby, that's ok. But if a poor person has sex and gets pregnant, she should work 80 hours a week and never see her baby because she deserves it for getting pregnant and not being able to support a kid, right?

She is at least trying to get a job. She isn't bragging about popping out another kid for more WIC benefits.

Matthew 15:32

And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, “I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.”
 Quoting: Happy in Nature

My mom also worked 3 jobs at one point, started a cleaning business she worked herself, doing closer to 100 hours a week. She than got a job at a law firm, became a legal secretary, still working 80+ Hours a week and eventually was personal secretary to one of the lawyers and was making 90k a year in the early to mid 90’s. She worked hard, didn’t whine and complain and made her life better. I’m not a disciple of Jesus so don’t share his socialist outlook.
Maybe I’m lacking in compassion but she’s already living a pretty good life, gets free childcare (amongst many other things) sounds like she’s working about 15-20 hours a week, maybe. With all her spare time she could be doing many things to improve her life but just whines she doesn’t get enough free stuff. It’s not mine or any other hard working persons problem she a kid before she even owned a car, and no i don’t care if she goes hungry due to her life choices (which she definitely isn’t). I don’t feel any responsibility to feed her child either nor do I think it helps society at all. What kind of example does this set for her kid? Mommy is lazy but we still have Coca Cola in the fridge. She buys microwave meals instead of actually cooking meals and eating the leftovers for a few days and saving money whilst also eating healthier food. She’s lazy and that’s that.

Well said, there is no legitimate reason for people in america to not live a comfortable life. It is purposely designed this way to keep rich rich and poor poor. Everyone benefits when everyone has clean water, healthy food, roof over their head and a fair paying job. Corporations dont need to profit millions while workers cant pay rent let alone save any money to better themselves.

I watched only a few seconds, but she seems very depressed. I would not want to see her face at a job. She needs to be sent to Venezuela to learn how to hustle and be happy with what she's got.
My local McDonald's and Burger King have become nightmarish dungeons. I can't even get waited on at the McDonald's Drive-thru. Once I just heard laughter. The second time I saw blacks running out the side door to scream/howl at blacks in cars.
Burger King gave me a stale bread gooey nasty thing which I had to throw away. Calling them is useless. They won't answer the phone.

This is America! This is slavery!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79390582

It's not slavery! Some of us are old enough to remember when minimum wage jobs were for high school kids. It gave them work experience for when they got an adult job.

Minimum wage jobs were not meant to support a family. We all knew we needed a skill to have an adult job. If they choose to have no skill and work a high school job, they deserve high school pay. $7.50 is a decent wage for non skilled labor. That was never meant to be a career.

What is wrong with some of these people?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77984699

There are millions more minimum wage jobs than there are teenagers working them. Why are you so interested in high profits for a company like McDonalds? Or a rich business owner? If a business owner cannot afford to pay a living wage without going out of business then they shouldn't be in business anymore.

Re: This is $7.50 an hour life
Good G/d what some dillusional propaganda. This girl will be no better off at $15 an hour because she's obviously NOT working full time, AND, then she would lose all her cushy benefits.

Wow, so here are some things I also noticed.

1. Her house is VERY nice, two story, granite counters, and she only pays like $230 a month, sorry don't feel sorry for her.

2. She says she can't afford vegetables but has SODA in her cart.

3. She acts like they don't have enough food to eat, BUT she looks VERY well fed to me.

4. She says she only goes to doctor if she has too, well so what, so do most people, AND it's obviously all paid for.

5. She said a root canal was going to be $300, seriously, she's got to have benefits for that also, because no way root canal is only $300 around here.

6. She complains that she only has her second check of the month to buy her kid nice things, but if she got $15 an hour and lost all her benefits, she would have zero left to buy her kid anything. I know, been there, done that.

7. Funny how she even splits her housing price with her sister. My understanding is that you can't have others living with you when you're getting free housing.

8. She doesn't realize how lucky she is to even have free housing. In Florida, there's usually a two-year waiting period, and will mostly NOT go to whites for some reason.

9. As a side note, those boots look pretty dang pricey.

Boo hoo. At one point I was working three jobs. You do what you have to do to take care of your responsibilities. I worked full time through college, got two degrees, and wife had two kids during this time. It's easy to make excuses.

bump

the true way to have a better life. Congrats on taking responsibility for your own life and not expecting to be handed anything. Too bad people like you are in the minority more and more. Everyone expects a handout nowadays. I don’t even know what she’s complaining about. I bet she’s got a nice flatscreen TV and a PlayStation. Has soda in her fridge instead of just drinking water or kool aid or lemonade mix you make with water. She buys microwave meals instead of making healthy food and having leftovers for a few days, which would be cheaper than the crappy microwave meals but she’d have to cook. Her life is in her hands but she enjoys her lazy life or else she’d make a change. The fact she buys microwave meals instead of making good meals for her kid shows she’s not worried about his health so why should we be? I’m so done with this socialist crap. How is her life bad? Looking at her house, her weight and the fact she only works a few hours a week seems like she’s got it pretty good to me.

She explained in the very beginning of the video that she was often forced to clock out early when business was slow, saying that sometimes she'd get there at 7am and would be told by her manager to clock out by 7:30 because it was slow.

In the comment below, I'm going to explain why you're wrong about her, but first, I'm going to explain why we're living in an illusion and are already in the end stages of a collapsing, fully-looted socialist government because I doubt you care about my life story, which would affirm what this woman goes through.

I have sympathy for her. But I also don't approve of universal basic income or even most other state-offered welfare. That's just welfare for the corporate state that erodes the value of the dollar and enslaves us all.

It artificially lowers the price of products because our tax dollars pay for the food stamps, medicaid and child care that allow McDonalds to get away with paying an unlivable wage. We pay the subsidy with our own taxes, they cash in on all the product profit, and their workers barely survive with subsidies from the state.

Worse, they underprice all businesses that pay a living wage, thus destroying the middle class in the process.

They get to sell trillions in cheap, inedible food to the slaves, and the slaves don't even realize that they aren't really paying $5.95 for that "value meal." They're also paying an extra $10 in income taxes to cover the services provided to the minimum wage serf who made it. And the poor guy who's middle class pays $20 extra bucks instead of $10.

It's worse than slavery. It's socialist wealth redistribution and serfdom. We haven't lived in a capitalist economy since the New Deal (America's greatest betrayal) was passed.

For over a century, we have been living a lie, believing that we live in a free and capitalist economy while suffering through wealth re-distribution and crony corporate welfare.

We've lost the value of our money, lost our freedom, lost our independence, lost our retirements, lost our greatness over the past century, and are now collapsing under the burden of the socialist state because the corporate cronies have stolen it all.

They saved the biggest steal for last when they took 90% of the economic stimulus packages and gave it to huge corporations that weren't even shut down.

What we're going through is no different than the USSR's collapse and universal basic income won't help.

You can stick a fork in this socialist nightmare. It's already been looted beyond recovery. That's what socialists do. They loot all the wealth, throw out just enough scraps to keep the peasants quiet and avoid a revolution, and then pull the plug by starting a war so they can get away with the loot.
 Quoting: Green Eggs & Ham

Very well said!

But if one were to try to fix things.. how would we start?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79971099

That's the hard part. It may be too late. The only way to end this trap is to starve the beast that is robbing you. We would have had to shop only at small businesses, no matter how much it hurt.

But I think it's too late. The reason they invented the coronavirus narrative is that they are collapsing this ponzi scheme on schedule. They try to control the collapses so they can get away with their wealth while the masses are distracted.

You're seeing it happen now, with CEOs stepping down, etc. It's all be design, and they already did it to us. And I hate to say it but Trump helped.

BUT, the movement he coopted to do it is still alive. It's the movement they plan to use to start the bloody phase of this mess, the inevitable war. You see, when the masses realize what's been done, they tend to lash out with violence.

I'd say the only weapon we have left is not lashing out at the target they need us to hit (the poor people, like the one in this video.) You see, they expect middle class America to lash out at impoverished America, blaming them for this misfortune instead of the corporations.

As AI and robots advance there becomes less and less reasons for humans to serve the elite. The Technocracy beast runs on electric, lots of it. Young people should learn mechanical skills geared towards robotics and automation. The elite envision themselves living with all the luxuries of the present age with very few humans serving them. On a side not in 1976 I made 10$ cash per hour working on a tree farm, That 10 dollars is 46$ today. The game is rigged. It's a club and we ain't in it.

Re: This is $7.50 an hour life
I do not like anything CNN but I thought this was a well done documentary.

This is the way of life for this lady and for many like her.
She is in a very well balanced trap. She is stuck in this trap and it is all designed to keep she and other Democratic voters dependent on the system.

She works at McDonalds because McDonalds will hire her.
Someone must take your order at McDonalds and the "system" is designed for it to be this woman. Also her sister, all her cousins and friends. Its how its designed.

She can't work more than 20-30 hours per week as unless she become a manager and she may one day thats how the system is designed as the State pays her benefits, not her employer, as thats how its designed.

Section 8 housing, thats how its designed and that how her older sister did it and how her mother did it, its a very normal life for this young lady.

She can't work full time or she will start loosing her her benefits. She can't work full time as McDonalds would then be required to pay her benefits. Why make $100 more a week when she will in turn loose her food stamps or Medicaid housing etc. its then well designed plan in place.

Yes, she can get the Pell Grand and some student loan money ( and she will one day ) and perhaps get her 2 year degree or beauty School as thats what her sister did and she may be able to move up from McDonalds buy why? She then will loose her section 8 housing etc.

With her one child even with the father in jail she will see a earned income tax credit of $3,400 when she files her W-2 next year and if she has a 2nd child that amount will rise to $5,616. McDonalds may have not give her a raise but our Government will as she can get a big raise if she has another little future Democrat (child) She will get more food stamps then as well.

She can never get married as if she moved a Husband in with her she may loose her section 8 housing, insurance, food stamp etc... Its all designed so her children will be future McDonalds workers and will VOTE!

Its one big well designed plan by smarter than she is Democrats. She is trapped and she can't do better.
Those who say she can do better... She can't breakaway from the cycle. Its like a payday or title loan, once you are in, you never leave as you can't.

Its a modern form of slavery and McD's is the Plantation. Her housing and food are provided, all she must do is always vote Democrat and raise her many children to do the same.

This is the 7.50 per hour life, a very well designed life that she is trapped in and always will be to some extent.

Its what the rice plantation worker was 200 years ago, is what the cotton mill worker was 100 years ago and is what the McDonalds worker is today.

Nothing new...

It's not her poor life choices. The same happened to me. But you shouldn't have to pay for it. Still, you have been for over a hundred years. You pay $10-$20 in extra income taxes for every $5 value meal McDonalds sells.

And they pocket all the profit while you pay her childcare, healthcare and food stamps.

Are you going to blame her? Or are you going to blame the bastards the government that set up this corporate welfare scam?

Do you still shop at Walmart?

Do you still shop at McDonalds?

How does adding 20 million to the homeless rolls serve society? Do you think you would be safe if suddenly financial assistance was cut to the poorest? You would probably spend most of your income defending your property against those who have nothing else to lose.

At least they are given food stamps and other benefits. In Europe there are university graduates that work for 300 Euros per month (after taxation and health insurance) and 10 hours per day with no other benefits. And no, I am not talking about Easter European countries that were ex-communists but for Eurozone countries with high cost of living. As a result, they tend to live with their parents or siblings, sharing costs but also unable to create their own families or have kids.

7.50 x 80 = 600 after taxes about 500$ not 240....so she is not working full time at 7.50 and has a child. This is noone elses fault or responsibility. work more, get a better job.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67904014

Actually, this just inspired me. I think I have a plan. I think it might work. I'll start a new thread on it.

And they pocket all the profit while you pay her childcare, healthcare and food stamps.

Boo hoo. At one point I was working three jobs. You do what you have to do to take care of your responsibilities. I worked full time through college, got two degrees, and wife had two kids during this time. It's easy to make excuses.

the true way to have a better life.
 Quoting: lazydaze

Frozen meals are cheaper than fresh food unfortunately. You make an insane amount of assumptions about this person who is trying to work. She has a job. She isn't lazy. Her employers cut her hours without warning, so it is hard to do it full time.

I don't suggest a socialist model, but temporary assistance is in the best interest of society.
