I'll go down to my local post office and apply for a job. I bet within a week or two they will call me up and be begging for me to come and work. Why? I don't have a college degree, but I did graduate from college. I'm retired and loving life. Yet this poor lady won't even try to do better for herself. I wonder why she has that mindset. If she has child care then she should not have a part time job. She should be actively looking for a full time job. Thus coming back to the post office, she could probably get on there and begin to make some serious cash.

Too bad her life circumstances won't allow her to get hired. She might be a great employee, if she only will try....harder.

Maybe there aren't many jobs in her area. Maybe she cannot afford transit to another part of town.

Do you think Jesus would mock her?
 Quoting: Happy in Nature

Honestly, I don't think he was mocking her, just stating a fact. Like I said earlier, raising her wages to $15 will do nothing for her, they will just cut her welfare.

Do you know how many working poor there are? Those moms and dads don't have as nice a place as her and probably less food and NO medical, and they don't get to spend all their time with their kids as she clearly does since she's only working a few hours. What would Jesus think about the working poor being snubbed on a daily basis?
 Quoting: Keilani

My mom worked three minimum wage jobs in FL and couldn't qualify for assistance while my black high school gym teacher drove a Lincoln and supplemented her income with food stamps.

I grew up in Vermont, home of the Welfare Queen. I am 100% against this lifestyle.

I also know many people who needed a couple years of assistance to get on their feet. I would rather pay out welfare benefits to keep kids fed and sheltered rather than making them homeless.

Many kids go to public schools just to get breakfast and lunch. The Democrats created ghettos with their pubic housing. The schools are a reflection of the neighborhood. The businesses are a reflection of the neighborhood. It is very hard to get out of this situation. Not impossible, but not as simple as getting a better job.

A handful of people control most of the resources in the world, and yet we blame the poor for being poor.

If a wealthy person gets pregnant and has a baby, that's ok. But if a poor person has sex and gets pregnant, she should work 80 hours a week and never see her baby because she deserves it for getting pregnant and not being able to support a kid, right?

She is at least trying to get a job. She isn't bragging about popping out another kid for more WIC benefits.

Matthew 15:32

And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, “I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.”
 Quoting: Happy in Nature

My mom also worked 3 jobs at one point, started a cleaning business she worked herself, doing closer to 100 hours a week. She than got a job at a law firm, became a legal secretary, still working 80+ Hours a week and eventually was personal secretary to one of the lawyers and was making 90k a year in the early to mid 90’s. She worked hard, didn’t whine and complain and made her life better. I’m not a disciple of Jesus so don’t share his socialist outlook.
Maybe I’m lacking in compassion but she’s already living a pretty good life, gets free childcare (amongst many other things) sounds like she’s working about 15-20 hours a week, maybe. With all her spare time she could be doing many things to improve her life but just whines she doesn’t get enough free stuff. It’s not mine or any other hard working persons problem she a kid before she even owned a car, and no i don’t care if she goes hungry due to her life choices (which she definitely isn’t). I don’t feel any responsibility to feed her child either nor do I think it helps society at all. What kind of example does this set for her kid? Mommy is lazy but we still have Coca Cola in the fridge. She buys microwave meals instead of actually cooking meals and eating the leftovers for a few days and saving money whilst also eating healthier food. She’s lazy and that’s that.
