I hear they taste like chicken. Rattlesnake tacos or burritos sounds good. Quoting: Mr.Sunshine I've eaten fried rattlesnake and it was a horrible chewy mess. I mean, seriously, how many does anyone really need? One mouth should be enough to do all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, and yardwork. Any more than that is just wasteful. |

User ID: 79988510 United States 06/08/2021 04:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I scored a 29 ounce rotisserie chicken from the large supercenter place this evening. Normally $4.50, discounted 40% because it'd been sitting there for a few hours. So I got 114g of protein (with no antibiotics, ever) for $2.80 + tax. Probably not a free range chicken. Oh, well. Moist and tasty, and probably more protein than I've been exposed to all year. Overall, I don't think the hated supercenter's prices have jumped much. On the other hand, the large Cincinnati-based grocer has raised quite a few prices on the oder of 15-25%. But they have weekly sales, as long as you have their dumb Plus! card. I pretty much shop sale items, period. And if they review my shopping history, they can see this. I wouldn't be surprised if they baned me, since they lose money (razor-thin profit margins, you know /sarc) every time I enter their store. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15766710 United States 06/08/2021 06:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just made seasoned rice with mixed vegetables in the pressure cooker, and then added can of white chicken that only cost $2 and some lemon - something to keep in the fridge to fill hungry tummies. Eggs are also still affordable, lots of options, and tuna. Summarise with frozen peas and then top it with a warm can of tuna. Drizzle with butter and lemon juice, really good. Or tuna on a nice salad, or in tuna rice casserole. I also loaded the freezer with uncured ham that was on clearance at the discount market because it was about to expire. Filled my freezer, as pork is also skyrocketing. I have all different kinds of legumes and beans that I can add the pork to, to make various soups... a little carrot and celery and onion powder, and you have a meal. I have also taught myself how to make a halfway decent veggie burger, those taste pretty good with barbecue sauce on them. I make them with things like sweet potato, cooked millet, brown rice, nutritional yeast, sunflower seeds, egg, chia, seasonings, et cetera. And if I don't have time to make them, they are only about a $1.50 each at the discount grocery. I fry those up in a pan with some sliced, seasoned zucchini, makes for a nice meal. I have managed to get my body used to the less meat diet (vitamins must be taken) and now sometimes I only eat meat about once A-day, and my other meals, as stated are more plant based. Sometimes I also lightly fry/brown some cubed, non-GMO tofu up in a pan, and eat that with whatever I have. It adjusts to pretty much anything you put it with, and if you top it with some Braggs aminos while you are cooking it, really tasty. |

Everywhere else seems to sell what could only be considered as pink slime. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78239842 Here's a tip: I buy about $40 worth of hamburger (apx. 10 lbs.) then fry it up with onion, pepper and celery. The veggies add bulk. Then I package recipe-sized servings in freezer bags. It's amazing how many meals I can make from 10 pounds of burger. Casseroles, spaghetti, etc. And usually, there are left-overs from each recipe to boot! Do NOT buy beef in a chub. You cannot see what you are getting, and it will be an odd texture and color. I buy it all the time. The key is to make sure it states both "fine ground" and is declared to be "ground chuck". I get mine from either Restaurant Depot or Sam's Club. Restaurant Depot is angus beef. Their pure tube meat tastes better than what I can get at local grocery stores these days. I gave up. |

I picked up a few packs of bacon day before yesterday and when I went into the store yesterday they had jumped in price almost $2.
