Re: My experience job hunting.
Hi OP .. hate to tell you but you might consider moving. Post up in different areas. I used Indeed.

I am working 2 jobs FedEx and Albertsons...both jobs high turn over rates.

Another way to possibly go is find what area is needed like software dev. ETC. then go to lambdaschool.com No fees for online schooling then for first 2 years they pull $ out of check.

I picked up something off Facebook.
The lady was telling me she was moving..
So I inquired what they did...she told me about schooling and her husband was a software dev. for amazon..

She said it changed her life....keep your chin up...keep a good attitude...you can do anything.

I will send prayers your way for a job.

Re: My experience job hunting.
I see the same applicants every few weeks. Let me tell you why they aren't getting a call back... and I don't even interview these people myself.

Part time don't get exemptions from nights and weekends especially listing open availability to land an interview and, surprise, your open schedule applies to 4 days in the week. The full time and other part timers who could use your help are not willing to rearrange their lives to accomodate your 3 day a week commitment to community college. You couldn't take on more than that without a job yet you think your employer should accomodate your unavailability and trust you could equally commit to both. If you won't commit to school or work on its own how can you expect anyone to view you as a potential asset?

Green, purple, blue, orange. Nobody cares what color your underwear are but when you wear them on your head you are a walking red flag begging for mental health based preferential treatmemt. Its definitely a look but not really a good one for getting a job. If you did get hired on you wouldn't stay because nobody would risk an HR disaster letting you get to know the real them in fear of retaliation for percieved wrongdoings or discrimination.

No this is not everyone. But it is too fucking many.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55241621

being rejected from your organization sounds like a blessing in disguise
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79134075

Look I'll give you some advice in disguise. When you are attempting your 10th personality aptitude test and it asks if you were invited to parties as a kid, stop being honest. Nobody wants to hire a purple haired survivor of self mutiliation who can't think beyond theirselves and others perception of their struggle.

If you don’t know what to do, start taking some flower essences. Go to your health food store, pick one, and start taking it every day. The Bach essences were developed during the Great Depression. I think there’s a book about people’s experiences of getting unstuck on them.

OP you are wrong.

If you think people in "cushy" salaried jobs are not smart and do not work hard, you are so wrong.

That's the problem here.

Business runs on the bottom line, shareholder value. You either increase it, or you don't.

The perception that someone in that position did not work hard ... that's holding you back. Your back is worth X ... your mind is worth X ... all they care about is your value to the company.

Those people are valuable to the company - they deserve their jobs.

Hard work involves discipline, and sucking it up ... you are shooting yourself in the foot with your attitude. I know you don't want to hear it - but IT'S TRUE!!!

i'm sorry but you are simply wrong here

i've watched people my whole life in good jobs, good positions and they don't work hard, they don't contribute anything, they just know the right people

my mom worked in a military hospital for 10 years, she worked next to a guy that by her own account, did nothing

he got paid more than her, and he got away with anything

all over america are people like this, people that kissed ass to get ahead, or get in their jobs

the idea that "hard work" gets you ahead is an idea of the past

now it's all about appearance or who's ass you kiss

Re: My experience job hunting.
Been unemployed for about 9 months now.

Yes majority was during the covid crap.

I've filled out hundreds of applications, sent my resume to hundreds of places, nada.

I see the same job postings day after day.

I go to places in person, i ask about job postings online.

I am met with snarky attitudes, i am told that if they are interested they will call me.

I am also told by some places that they are not hiring at all(despite an online job posting), or an outside company does the hiring.

Fake jobs, fake life.

Also I spoke with an unemployment counselor who works with the city, he told me currently there are way more people out of work than jobs available.

What does this mean? hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each job, and super picky employers

At this point getting a job is like winning the lottery.

What field is the OP in?
 Quoting: Pervnoff

auto mechanics

and yes i have applied at every shop and dealership in town, and those in a 30 minute driving distance
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

If you are mechanical that is a blessing . I know around the Raleigh/Durham area their would be something . You can use those skills in maintance of apartments things like that . Also some place like Sams Club places like that want people to put together displays , there are even companines here that contract people for big clients . Also here all around there are back yard shops , alot of those people always need people to do things . You might be Over qualified . I have actually been to job interviews where the hiring manager told me Flat out they would Not hire somebody that could take their job . I can say there are alot of jobs here . You can rent a room here for about 500 to 600 a month . Get out in the country and you can rent a mobile home for 750 , get roommates . I have one , I getting by bare bones . I am over fifty and white and it is hard for me , just have retail . Look at Indeed for Raleigh/ Durham area if you can move . If not maybe you can put up flyers : brake Jobs , oil changes , etc. With warm weather coming up maybe small engine repair . You apply at landscaping places to do their maintance on their equipment . I know where I live if you are over 40 they will not hire you in alot of things .

it's just moving is out of the question

i would have to move not only me but my toolbox

would cost thousands of dollars

then i would be living in my truck until i started working

not only that employers don't make a habit out of hiring homeless workers from out of state

I told you how to do it for my rundown area of tennessee. Ain't even looked at the local assistance yet that will be offered for being somebody who is busting ass and trying. Tool boxes fit in u-haul trailers seen that before. Call the dealerships and garages with your phone to line a job up before you leave.

Get moving or sink. I have been working 60 hour plus weeks to keep my business going for 2 years now.

Re: My experience job hunting.
You live in CO, so it's a Dem state, I'm in IL also a Dem state and they've shut down the economy pretty good for the past year.

Have you tried looking into being a mechanic at a school district or town?

I don't think Indeed is good for blue collar listings, I would try other sites.

Good luck, I would have a hard time moving too.

i go on indeed everyday

like I said, been seeing the same job postings for the last 9 months and i've applied to them all

i'm convinced that the majority of job postings are fake jobs, or have so many applicants that I don't stand a chance
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

Auto mechanic positions?

OP you might have to move.

I don't see how you wouldn't find work in NJ, except your attitude might be a hindrance to advancement!!

i understand this but i don't have thousands of dollars to just leave and take a chance in an unknown place

not trying to make excuses just telling you how it is

i need a trailer to move my toolbox, then i need a storage locker to put that toolbox in, then i will be effectively homeless until i find a job

it's not that i wouldn't mind trying this, i just can't
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

yes, you can

and now is the time, evidently

you rent a storage space there, and leave your shit until a later time

you arent taking a chance ... you have no kids, no mortgage ... you are simply moving to work ... you will find work

come on for real
 Quoting: SugarSand

you say you struggled to succeed in your job

let me ask you: have you ever had people accuse you of stealing money in order to get you fired?

has that ever happened to you?

i was that good at my job and making the older techs look bad that they conspired against me to make it look like i stole money

like what do you do in that situation?

I used Indeed.com

How did you get so negative????

When I had no family I was like, ok I'lll move ... I'll wash dishes or do whatever, get an apartment ...

OP seriously, I don't know how old you are I think I read 38 that's pretty old .. but I'm 45 and your attitude is terrible.

You are totally in the move-to-prosper category. The world is your fucking oyster, ffs.

Seriously.

Moving always costs thousands. It's tax deductible. It's what you do, for life.
 Quoting: SugarSand

i have family

i have 2 kids and a wife

it's not about that

it's about physically not having thousands of dollars to move

i would even leave them here, we have discussed this idea many times, and they are fine with it

i'm 37 by the way

and when me and my wife decided to have kids we were making combined 90k a month, so don't give me that speech about "don't have kids when you are poor"

we both got laid off when the company we worked for was shut down and we have never been able to get back to that level of income, been struggling ever since
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

That's a different story, OP. A storage space is different from 2 kids and a wife ... that makes a huge difference. I had a husband have to go away for work and it sucked.

Ya thats a Big gamble. Have you seen the rates for uhaul rentals these days ? Holy smoke ! I was going to possibly take a railroad job in Notrth platte, Ne. but the cost to move there just from Denver was big boo coo $,+ at the time trying to even find a uhaul to rent was a good month out on the reservation. Houses for rent there are cheap too but unfortunately as with everywhere else there were a ton of phony rental scam ads.
+ you have the unknown of taking that job in another state if its a good job or turns out to be complete shit and everything about it in the ad was a complete lie, then youre definitely screwed.

They will hire a monkey over a hard worker 9 times out of 10.
