Fill out and online form, send in a resume, come to our office and fill in another application exactly like the one you just did,
Have an advanced degree with a 3.8 or better gpa;
Have 5-10 years of experience;
Know at least 5 obscure, brand new programs at an expert level;
Have perfect credit, no offenses and 10 glowing references;
Give us access to your social media, bank statements, medical records, and what time you wipe your ass in the morning;
Be able to work nights, weekends, overtime, travel at moment’s notice at your own expense, take zero time off, ever, for any reason,
Pass a medical exam, drug test, a personality test, a skills test, and an ass kissing test;
Be a person of color, immigrant, or in need of an H1B visa,
Sign a statement you’ll never sue us for any reason, including sexual harassment or a hostile or unsafe workplace, or unlawful termination;
Oh, and we pay $10.50 an hour and the job is temporary, here sign this form that you won’t apply for unemployment when we lay you off with zero notice or reason.

Everything you said is truth. So use your skills to build a website to document the bull shit that "educated" people have to go through to earn a minimum wage. You know, actually produce and service something. This website will become your business and watch the income roll in as you document a mockery that the US educational system has become. This is totally not true.

I've been employed in the private sector for 25 years, and this is some kind of ... sour grapes fantasy ... I'm sorry but it's just not true.

I have the kind of job where it's not only common ... it's expected we move on and look for new work every few years.

I've never worked in an office full of only immigrants or women or people willing to work round the clock or with perfect credit (that did matter in banking, but only before 2008-2010) ... it's just not true.

That is an accumulation ... an amalgam ... of every panicky HR related bulletin I've ever read. None of that bears out in real life.

If a person would simply go for it, despite what the "experts" or "peopel in the field" or stupid business articles say ... they'd see it wasn't true.

No one who has ever worked in business would say this is true.

Hippies did not stink. They showered daily just like everyone else. They just wore different clothes, hair, beards etc.

Been unemployed for about 9 months now.

Yes majority was during the covid crap.

I've filled out hundreds of applications, sent my resume to hundreds of places, nada.

I see the same job postings day after day.

I go to places in person, i ask about job postings online.

I am met with snarky attitudes, i am told that if they are interested they will call me.

I am also told by some places that they are not hiring at all(despite an online job posting), or an outside company does the hiring.

Fake jobs, fake life.

Also I spoke with an unemployment counselor who works with the city, he told me currently there are way more people out of work than jobs available.

What does this mean? hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each job, and super picky employers

At this point getting a job is like winning the lottery.

I don't know. Go over to the local college and ask them. they have it down pat.

Me too but it's real enough to fund the rest. I consider myself a business intelligence developer. It not the kind of skill im sure we both admire and aspire to, but it beats the alternative.

I take advantage of the physical/sleep/stress respite to develop real skills. My garden was nice. I can lay tile and hang drywall, too. I'm healthy and not worn out like my parents were at this age, thank God.

Skills are skills, jobs are what earn us money, sometimes they are the same, sometimes not. Need both.

Re: My experience job hunting.
nobody wants to work anymore because

cost of living is to high and job wages are stagnant. Also the bullshit politics in workplace is enough to make anyone want to rip out their hair

Government thinks the solution is more government and red tape. It will surely fix the problems by forcing companies pay minimum of $15 an hour wont it.

It wont fix it. This will kill off the last of the brick and mortar stores. The only business left will be walmarts. And walmart will not take the hit on $15 hourly wage they will raise prices, replace more jobs with automation, and cut hours of the employees that are left

government does what it always does make problems worse.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79390546

True. I scan and pack my own groceries at Walmart, even when I have a full cart.

Seems like there is less and less of a need for nearly brainless "task jobs". What will all the uneducated, low skilled workers do then? These caravans coming up from Central America are full of illiterate, unskilled people who don't even speak English. I'm sure that some of them would like to "get a job" and make a better life, but the fact is, the American middle class worker bees will be subsidizing them to be here and do nothing but lay around all day and breed.

Re: My experience job hunting.
I applied for a proj mgr job in oil and gas. I have outstanding resume. There were 600 other applicants.

They tried to weed people out by having applicants submit an entire project mgt plan for a hypothetical project. 200 people submitted.

Then they did extensive video interview with top 20.

I made final 5 and didn't get the job. Had to go work shit job to pay bills.

At that shit job, there were people so way over qualified it's not even funny. I'm talking career welders, technicians, machinists, even engineers making a fraction of what they should.

Now? I moved up 3 positions so decent money but still way underpaid.

I'm working my side hustle and making a third of what I make at full time job. But when you got something that starts to work, all you have to do is scale it up. I can produce more than what I sell. Meaning all I have to do is increase my sales outlets and refine my marketing materials to improve conversion rate. Conversion rate is # of views divided by # of sales. Anything over 1.5% is considered successful. I'm at 3.3%. That's a winner. But you always strive to improve every single aspect of your business.
best advice EVER on glp. thank you. God Bless.
As far as jobs working for others?

This isn't the 90's. Probably will never return to that. Work a job that teaches you a product or service then figure out how to do it on your own and be competitive at same price.

Last, don't go opening a business you don't know shit about and are not a high performer in. You got to be better to succeed.

Re: My experience job hunting.
I'm not making this up, either. My bahelor's degree is in religious studies. I had a full scholarship and I had NO IDEA what I wanted to do, so I took a bunch of classes that I liked and ended up with a major in Religious Studies and Anthropology and a Classics minor. I was stupid. My goal was to not lose my scholarship and graduate in 4 years.

There was no Internet to speak of when I was in college, until my senior year. But, to go to grad school for Philosophy and Journalism, I took a job as an editor at a local paper with a brand new web edition. It paid less than my bartending job, which in 98 paid me at least 40k.

I found what I was good at in the corporate world and just went with it. They are eager to help you develop your skills. It reflects highly on them, and they earn more money by helping you do better.

I decided not to go to grad school for Philosophy, but eventually went back for Software Engineering part-time.

Every day has been fun ... I couldn't work every day if it wasn't that's why I try to tell these young people ... you have to go to work and just do it. Enjoy it, always keep looking out for better.

No one who pays me begrudges me my liberal arts degree. They are grateful I am earning money for them. They appreciate the fact that I go for it.

Just go for it.

Stop listening to these people telling you the market is this or the market is that ... it is like 75% sour grapes, and 25% statistics.

They can take away your job, but they can't take away your accomplishments. You always have your accomplishments to propel you into your next job.

Re: My experience job hunting.
...

It depends upon your profession-- Some are much better than others

That's true. I have many unpopular opinions, and how I feel about private sector corporate life is one.

I advise all the girls I know - if they have no idea what they want to do with their lives - to go to any affordable college and get a degree in whatever pleases them, and then go for whatever they can in the corporate world. HR, Accounting, IT, QC, Audit .. whatever.

I've been in corporate life for 25 years, and there is no end in sight. I have co-workers pushing 80, still happily coming in, and still valued by the company.

If you increase the bottom line, you are valued by the company. That's the way to go for average kids, boys and girls, who can sit still long enough.

If the company/profession has government contracts then for women (and those who can check "disadvantaged" boxes) it is often better for women than for the men

If your profession unfortunately doesn't have these contracts, good luck.

Corporate life can be very good for many women, as they may offer maternity leave and other perks

I'm a software engineer. I've been working in the private, corporate sector writing code for money since 1998. No government contracts. Business.

People work for money. Business runs on money. I don't know what jobs BESIDES government jobs, that don't respect the bottom line more than anything. Color, gender, doesn't matter. The bottom line matters.

If I didn't make them more money than I cost them, I wouldn't have a job, that's for sure.

Ah, but many, many businesses have government contracts-- they need to meet diversity quotas-- so if one fits what they need, they are making money for the business just by being there

Re: My experience job hunting.
No jobs.

Women have it easy.

Well, make like a woman and sell your ass.

Oh, wait ... not only is that not easy, it's not worth anything anyway.

Damn.

Lament lack of jobs.

I know a woman who refuses to work.. or drive or anything

She wants a man to drive her around, buy her food, buy her clothes, pay for her place.. etc

For what?

Women that do not work really are useless

sex is not a skill

Re: My experience job hunting.
OP is a mechanic?

I knew a guy that set up a business and did this out of his garage. Just a one car. Set up an account with one of the AutoZones/Advanced for the discounts, and word of mouth advertising. Customers lead to more word of mouth customers.

He secured a small business loan, and next thing I know he's renting out a building and going full on commercial mechanic gig. Has a few employees. His place is always busy, and he drives a 60k truck these days. Home newly built.

Take that skill and make it work for you OP.
