I see the same applicants every few weeks. Let me tell you why they aren't getting a call back... and I don't even interview these people myself.

Part time don't get exemptions from nights and weekends especially listing open availability to land an interview and, surprise, your open schedule applies to 4 days in the week. The full time and other part timers who could use your help are not willing to rearrange their lives to accomodate your 3 day a week commitment to community college. You couldn't take on more than that without a job yet you think your employer should accomodate your unavailability and trust you could equally commit to both. If you won't commit to school or work on its own how can you expect anyone to view you as a potential asset?

Green, purple, blue, orange. Nobody cares what color your underwear are but when you wear them on your head you are a walking red flag begging for mental health based preferential treatmemt. Its definitely a look but not really a good one for getting a job. If you did get hired on you wouldn't stay because nobody would risk an HR disaster letting you get to know the real them in fear of retaliation for percieved wrongdoings or discrimination.

No this is not everyone. But it is too fucking many.

Also, I get lots of people scheduling interviews for jobs that just don't show up. Very rude. My impression is that they schedule an interview and use that to show unemployment that they are trying to find work and then they get their unemployment benefits extended.

They know how to work the system

It’s the menopausal years which are difficult. It makes many women crazy. And they just have the I’m done with crap attitude which may be warranted. But it’s not good for the workplace. It use to be that women at that age were helping to take care of the grandkids and having some fun. Not out in the workplace or just a low stress part time job.

Don't hire young teenage girls-- they will distract the male employees
Don't hire 20 somethings-- they are going to get pregnant
Don't hire 30 somethings-- they have a family to care of
Don't hire 40 plus-- they are menopausal
Perhaps its the inequalities and assumptions that make women crazy
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79387251

I think a lot of women screw themselves by assuming that they won't get hired because of their age ... which translates to childbearing or not, etc. They make themselves crazy.

I got hired twice while visibly pregnant.

People were shocked I was job hunting while ready to pop.

It wasn't the hiring managers that were the problem, it was all the ladies saying ... "they aren't going to hire you because you'll be out for 3 months already ..."

There is a lot of old school thinking going on that really doesn't apply in corporate settings anymore.

That's true. I have many unpopular opinions, and how I feel about private sector corporate life is one.

I advise all the girls I know - if they have no idea what they want to do with their lives - to go to any affordable college and get a degree in whatever pleases them, and then go for whatever they can in the corporate world. HR, Accounting, IT, QC, Audit .. whatever.

I've been in corporate life for 25 years, and there is no end in sight. I have co-workers pushing 80, still happily coming in, and still valued by the company.

If you increase the bottom line, you are valued by the company. That's the way to go for average kids, boys and girls, who can sit still long enough.

All the system has to do then is to follow up on the applicant’s claims on being INTERVIEWED- the fact you scheduled an interview needs to be communicated to unemployment. That must be too much work for them though.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79790042

The system can't handle to volume of claims as it is. They don't have time to follow up with prospective employers to confirm the person actually showed up for the interview. Sad state of affairs.

Been unemployed for about 9 months now.

Yes majority was during the covid crap.

I've filled out hundreds of applications, sent my resume to hundreds of places, nada.

I see the same job postings day after day.

I go to places in person, i ask about job postings online.

I am met with snarky attitudes, i am told that if they are interested they will call me.

I am also told by some places that they are not hiring at all(despite an online job posting), or an outside company does the hiring.

Fake jobs, fake life.

Also I spoke with an unemployment counselor who works with the city, he told me currently there are way more people out of work than jobs available.

What does this mean? hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each job, and super picky employers

At this point getting a job is like winning the lottery.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

Agree with you OP.

I think the government is LYING about unemployment numbers. A ton of small businesses closed for good, and we are expected to believe that huge wave didn't affect the numbers in a huge way?

The numbers don't make it out to be that bad but let's use our brains here. Economy closed down in many states and that is hard to come back from quickly.

Agree with you on the same jobs being posted each day. I see that too. Another huge problem is temp agencies and other "hiring" agencies (funny terms for corporate middle men thieving entities) are everywhere.

As far as the attitude thing, that sucks when you encounter that in just the initial interviewing stages. Never a good sign, I tell those people to fuck off right away if I am given that snarky attitude. No job is worth that.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75209090

With Trump we had a chance of recovery. I don't see it under Biden/Harris. At best they know how to create fake jobs or shovel ready jobs. Not real jobs. Not growing the economy.

Maybe only wokejobs. See if you can become a Democratic strategist or diversity outreach coordinator or something. They're going to fill those positions and the government will make sure they're funded. It might as well be you going through the motions in those positions.

My husband got laid off June 30th because of the Chyna V!rus...I have sent out close to 200 applications...I am in Texas BTW...at least 100 applicants per job!
They are only hiring people with BA degrees right now...
My husband in the 30 yrs I have been with him has NEVER had a hard time finding a job in his field. He just went through 3 interviews at a good company...told us NO yesterday. In the 6.5 mos he has been out of work...he has only gotten 1 interview per month!!!
He is so discouraged...I saw him in bed yesterday, cause he has a sinus infection....and he was weeping!
I just encourage him and and tell him we will Trust God for the right position....I will keep his spirits up and we will not give up...EVER
 Quoting: astratt5757

Keep a close eye on him and remind him of his worth. Many men get suicidal in that type of situation, and if he's crying in bed over it (and i speak from personal experience) he migt be contemplating suicide

Nobody knows if they should wear a suit and tie to the interview or if that's too professional or if they'll say you look too office-y or wear casual clothes to look hard working or if they'll say you didn't try hard enough.

This is unprecedented territory. No rules, and when you don't get the lottery ticket you second guess if you smiled too much or not enough.

Also, a pink collar job in manufacturing is great. I'm currently in that role. It feels good to contribute to making something, along with focusing on the bottom line and shareholder value.

People shouldn't automatically eliminate these types of jobs from their plans if they didn't go to or finish college. Half my co-workrs didn't finish college. They worked their way in, just like in banking.

Yes I would hire you if you enjoy working with children. No experience necessary, we train you.
 Quoting: Bloody Peasant!

so you are ok with hiring someone who would be essentially homeless with no experience?

when i fill out my w2 do i just put "homeless" or write your address in?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722

I've hired homeless before and they were able to get a place to live within a few weeks. It's all about your work ethic. I honestly how you find work, but do something now even if you think it's beneath you. Having a purpose is better than feeling sorry for yourself. You can keep applying for your dream job while working a shit job, but already you are doing something
 Quoting: Bloody Peasant!

it has nothing to do with a "dream job"

i've been applying for any job i can

so great now you, a guy on the internet, claims he will give me a job if i uproot and move 1500 miles away, to be homeless

great prospects

oh wait that requires me to have hundreds of dollars in gas money and food money

nevermind

Re: My experience job hunting.

I’ve had to hire people recently. I always look for an online presence. If you have a Facebook page and you look like an egg head you might want to take it down. It’s a huge drain on company resources to hire the wrong person.

that's not it

i have no facebook, no online presence at all

hell i post as an AC what does that tell you?

Same in Sweden...they're also stressing you to death with threats and stuff when you can't find a job. (They threat that you won't get any support money any more...they are just insane.)
Oh, but if you a newcomer from a muslem desert country THEN you will have all the benefits they can find.

Re: My experience job hunting.
the government spends $5 trillion a year now PLUS 4 or 5 trillion a year QE.

$10 trillion a year.

I could give anyone of you complete utter morons $1 billion dollars and you could hire people to do work, how hard is that?

you can always hire a manager, put someone in charge you don't have to know anything at all.

You go to a home builder, you say I'll pay $50,000 a year to 20,000 people to build 20,000 nice homes this year.

so what the fuck are they doin with this $10 trillion dollars?? how much worse could they possible mismanage our money?

for $10 trillion dollars nobody on earth should ever have to work ever again if they spent it intelligently and they know it.

$10 trillion dollars is 10,000 times one billion dollars.

$1 trillion dollars I could hire 20 million people at $50,,000 a year to build 20 million homes, homes that would last 100 years. Nobody would ever have to work for a house again PLUS 20 million people would have $50,000 to spend...and not be spending it all on housing, they'd be spending it on all the other goods and services people have to offer. It would be the greatest renaissance of human beings in history.
