Re: My experience job hunting.
I applied for a proj mgr job in oil and gas. I have outstanding resume. There were 600 other applicants.

They tried to weed people out by having applicants submit an entire project mgt plan for a hypothetical project. 200 people submitted.

Then they did extensive video interview with top 20.

I made final 5 and didn't get the job. Had to go work shit job to pay bills.

At that shit job, there were people so way over qualified it's not even funny. I'm talking career welders, technicians, machinists, even engineers making a fraction of what they should.

Now? I moved up 3 positions so decent money but still way underpaid.

I'm working my side hustle and making a third of what I make at full time job. But when you got something that starts to work, all you have to do is scale it up. I can produce more than what I sell. Meaning all I have to do is increase my sales outlets and refine my marketing materials to improve conversion rate. Conversion rate is # of views divided by # of sales. Anything over 1.5% is considered successful. I'm at 3.3%. That's a winner. But you always strive to improve every single aspect of your business.

As far as jobs working for others?

This isn't the 90's. Probably will never return to that. Work a job that teaches you a product or service then figure out how to do it on your own and be competitive at same price.

Last, don't go opening a business you don't know shit about and are not a high performer in. You got to be better to succeed.

You could always pick up a shovel and learn to make that thing work...

Oh wait, no you can’t. 100 million unskilled laborers are coming up from Central American. So forget about that as well.

Gotta love them demoncraps though. They care.

There are paths to success no matter who is in control of government or how many people are let in to the country.

Pick a path and work it.

Around me fast food places close early and some not open at all because they don't have enough workers.

The funeral transport industry is booming! You'll make more money than McDonald's.

Been unemployed for about 9 months now.

Yes majority was during the covid crap.

I've filled out hundreds of applications, sent my resume to hundreds of places, nada.

I see the same job postings day after day.

I go to places in person, i ask about job postings online.

I am met with snarky attitudes, i am told that if they are interested they will call me.

I am also told by some places that they are not hiring at all(despite an online job posting), or an outside company does the hiring.

Fake jobs, fake life.

Also I spoke with an unemployment counselor who works with the city, he told me currently there are way more people out of work than jobs available.

What does this mean? hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each job, and super picky employers

At this point getting a job is like winning the lottery.

I was gainfully employed for 20+ years, then a downturn in my industry.

LinkedIn, Monster, Indeed... all fucking worthless! They are networking portals for 20 something year old girls looking to job hop.

You ever see the resume of a 20 something year old female? Doesn't stay at one job longer than 3 months, yet jumps from position to position and works their way up incredibly fast.

From intern to VP in under a year. No experience and even less talent or ability. It's like some Bizarro fake job world out there.

I honestly think the male senior partners of every company just hire hot 20 year females and populate their companies with them. Or 20 something guys so that they can pay them peanuts and work them 80 hours a week.

Especially in the marketing/desing business... it's all run by 20 something girls, and the 3 older male partners. That's an American company in the year 2021.

Depends on what you're looking for.

Tech is doing OK, since more and more companies have been remote and are OK with hiring directly new remote workers.

Low-/Minimum- wage jobs are plentiful, as a lot of people make more money on COVID unemployment than they would at their $9 / hour wages.

My husband got laid off June 30th because of the Chyna V!rus...I have sent out close to 200 applications...I am in Texas BTW...at least 100 applicants per job!
They are only hiring people with BA degrees right now...
My husband in the 30 yrs I have been with him has NEVER had a hard time finding a job in his field. He just went through 3 interviews at a good company...told us NO yesterday. In the 6.5 mos he has been out of work...he has only gotten 1 interview per month!!!
He is so discouraged...I saw him in bed yesterday, cause he has a sinus infection....and he was weeping!
I just encourage him and and tell him we will Trust God for the right position....I will keep his spirits up and we will not give up...EVER

I'm 58 and was laid off at the end of May. At the beginning, hundreds would apply for 1 job, I wasn't getting any interviews. I would get the occasional interview, made it through 3 rounds at a couple of places, then didn't get the job.

Fast forward to the holidays, I kept applying through December and after a week of 6 interviews, I finally got a job. What a relief! I start on Monday.

All I can say is keep applying, if a 58 year old person can get a job, then you can too!

Re: My experience job hunting.
I do some hiring for IT and developers.

From a hiring perspective there's just a lack of passion from applicants to actually do the work. Most often times Im mainly looking for the least lazy person. Things I see constantly.

-lives a bohemian lifestyle and changes jobs ever couple months. Great it takes years to get good at certain jobs but its nice to know your gonna leave whenever you get an itch. This is very common for people in their 30s.

-People 25 and under I can sum up 90% of them with this: Their mom made them go to school, they play video games all day so they went for computers. They dont know anything or have any interest in how they work. They dont even get on their home computer and cant even tell you what version of Windows it runs. They used some tools in class but thats extent of their computer knowledge. Oh and they want to be a developer to make mobile video games, but they never taken any steps to start that. They also have no idea what video game they want to make. They basically have never done anything with technology unless it was a class/group assignement and they cant give you any details on that. "i dont know the teacher did something with Sequel". Thats been my last 100 interviews with people under 25. Somewhere along the way these people were told if they just show up for class they will get a degree and their life will be roses. Nobody talks about this but many degrees arent the open door they once were. Most of them seem to be paper farms these days and businesses are catching on.

Yeah i am mid 50's and got a job in Dec.... prob is it was hard graft for 20 yr olds but i managed it just about. Now the shifts have dried up and i am back applying to loads a day but i have to agree with the op tbh, same few jobs and half of the ones i have applied for just are not there atm, just agencies wanting to list you on their books to fill gaps when the odd job or shift arises etc.

Yeah most places are a bit turned off by “handshakers” ie well dressed walk ins who try to pass out resumes at businesses. Not a good look. Just follow each jobs instructions for applying and hope for the best. If you actually likeable, the best way is a word of mouth referral.

If you don't have a family, move.

Back in the 90s, I had to do this, as there were no decent jobs where I lived.

If I hadn't ... I'd be without a 25 year career.

Since there was no one in my hometown with my skills, after a few years, I was able to start snagging the jobs that popped up here and I moved back.

There are so many places in this country with no prospects. Move away from them. They are dead.
When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die? Not me, my dear one - THIS IS MY SACRED LIFE - to no one nor no thing I'll surrender. For how does one know where when dead she will go, or if sweet Mother Earth he'll remember? - Sug

I worked landscaping and tree trimming jobs before covid. There are currently far fewer of those jobs available and starting wages seem to have gone down.

Pre-covid wages were going up under President Trump as there were more jobs than employees. As soon as the restaurants were closed many out of work cooks and servers began applying for those positions while collecting unemployment.

Kind of sucks riding around in a work truck making $300/wk along with a guy collecting unemployment+ $600/week extra unemployment+ the same $300/wk as me.

Last summer I was making $300/wk when the convicted felon socialist next to me was making $1300/wk.
