I know some of the people here have a misogynistic mentality from right out of the Stone Age. They are not that much different than the ignorant people in other parts of the world who insist on doing female mutilation so the female can never experience pleasure when having sex only pain thinking all women are whores who will have sex outside of marriage and cheat on their husbands if their private parts are not mutilated. The very idea that a woman derives any pleasure from her own body is considered sinful in some men's eyes. Also the very idea that women owns their own bodies and can do what they like with them is novel concept to some men who perceive women as nothing but sex objects that they own like a piece of property. Men are allowed to masturbate and think of sex not women it is considered unlady like and we apparently don't have urges either according to some prudish men. Men are allowed sexual pleasure but women are not and women's bodies are considered impure and dirty. Women for ages have been made to feel ashamed of their bodies and menstruating and all the other stuff that comes with being a woman. We are not supposed to talk about child birth and women's bodies. That's considered dirty talk to the prudes out there.

Endorphins cut pain and anxiety that slows labor, so an orgasm calms all the tight auxiliary muscles so involuntary contractions are more efficient and easier on baby :)

I doubt 'sexual energy' effects the baby as much as the endorphin release is really pleasurable.

I think delivery in a room full of people screaming is really awful for a baby.

But you are doping up the baby too where as rubbing your lady bit is natural remedy that doesn't hurt the baby.

With acetaminophen, Tylenol, paracetamol which is PURE poison.

I'm not so sure, everybody's different and I have heard of women who actually are turned on giving birth.
I was not one of them, no sir. Ya never know how long labor is going to be or how intense.

So I took the advice of a good friend during the last one whose advice was "GET THE DRUGS!".

If it is so effective, why does the woman have to masturbate--why doesn't she just have her husband touch her. It seems like that might create more of a family bond and not be depending on the woman doing it to herself which seems just weird.

Well I am sure there would be some women who would like it if their husband comforted them and massaged their back and lady bit and tried to make them feel better but not all guys are up to the task. Some guys are just better off in the waiting room rather than by their woman's side especially if they are the squeamish sort who faint at the site of blood and are uncomfortable with women's bodies in general. It is pure wonder how some men are married to women given their uncomfortableness with women's bodies.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I masturbate way more often than my husband. He says he doesn't like to waste it & prefers to wait until we can have sex. I, on the other hand (no pun intended), like it both with him & by myself. I see no reason to deny myself that pleasure.

I was sexually assaulted at Better Birth during my labor. Later on another woman sent me a report of being sexually assaulted during her labor at Better Birth of Utah, indicating that she experienced the exact same thing that I had. I also got reports from my wordpress statistics website that indicated that midwives and doulas have touched clients inappropriately, andwomen searching for answers about their own birth experiences landed here as a result. All of us had the same story, all of us had our clitoris rubbed in a sexually purposeful manner by a supposed birth “professional”. 

It would be easy to believe that this is just an isolated incident, a pocket of perverse behavior on the part of midwives, but it is hard for me to accept that in light of the information I have at my disposal. Midwifery pioneers like Ina May Gaskin have suggested that sexual touching is a means to get women to “relax” during labor. Gaskin had this to say in the first few editions of her natural child birth classic, “Spiritual Midwifery”:

It helps the mother to relax around her puss if you massage her there using a liberal amount of baby oil to lubricate the skin. Sometimes touching her very gently on or around her button (clitoris) will enable her to relax even more. I keep both hands there and busy all the time while crowning … doing whatever seems most necessary.

Sometimes I see that a husband is afraid to touch his wife’s tits because of the midwife’s presence, so I touch them, get in there and squeeze them, talk about how nice they are, and make him welcome.

These mentions have been removed in more recent editions of the book, but you can find plenty of midwives discussing how toput the sex back into childbirth, or discussing their theory that “the same feelings that got the baby in can get the baby out”. Beware midwives that celebrate this type of rhetoric!

Mine did when I was two weeks past due. Sexual activity can stimulate labor. Oh, and by the way, the hormones that are released during orgasm are good for the baby.

If a woman is tense during childbirth, it can actually prolong labor.
