Just look into that one more. This was years ago so may be fixed now. Where as another friends Sig P226 has never failed or jammed, even after lots of firing and the slide smoking, great arm. Both were 9mm INTP |

Keep Texas Free! User ID: 77057405 United States 08/13/2022 12:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know everybody is gonna laugh, but my Taurus PT145 Pro is a great EDC. It's as compact as a 9mm, but has 10+1 rounds of .45. It's been dropped, run over (literally), covered in mud, and generally banged around and has never jammed or misfired. Maybe I'm just lucky? Since it'll be used at (very) close range, the accuracy is not really an issue. I ain't sniper shooting when it comes down to self defense. At 10 yards I get a respectable pattern. After that, I'm not shooting at 'em anyway. They're always running away |

Main reason was weight. Used to carry 9+1 230gr .45's with a 13rd backup magazine, and I switched to 10+1 124gr +p 9mm with a 15rd backup magazine. Again I like them both, but I am tall and skinny(6'2" at 172lbs) and the lighter weight 9mm carries better IWB for me. |

If you get shot in the right spot you die .22 or 44mag. 45 over 9mm 100%. The 1911 has a very slim grip that is concealed very well. If you need more than 8 rounds your screwed either way. A ccw isn’t for taking on 5 armed robbers. It simply has more ballistic shock. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80752870 United States 08/13/2022 12:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to swear by 45. Then I switched to 9mm and loved it. More rounds, better concealment options with single stack magazines. You can use high velocity fmj or hollow points depending on needs. I'd keep 2 mags (one already loaded) of hollow points and a backup mag with fmj. Nowadays, I carry 22lr. Even more rounds, and I'm an amazing shot. If you're not an amazing shot, perhaps 9mm is your jam. If you are, don't pass up 22lr. A infantry paratrooper combat veteran. Also, don't underestimate jiu-jitsu as a supplement to your self-defense arsenal. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 84004559 United States 08/13/2022 12:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For a new guy, you need a lot of practice, and 45 is double in price vs 9mm. Harder to control, especially under stress. You want something that your wife and kids can use too. Ignore the "mine is bigger than yours" crowd. A 9mm relatively well placed bullet is better than a 45 miss, and if needed you can shoot 2 more times fast. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80788445 United States 08/13/2022 12:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The difference between 9mm +P ammo and 45ACP is negligible; I'd prefer to have the extra rounds because I don't get to practice very often. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83813785 Your likely looking at FPS for your comparison when the difference is in bullet weight and energy. Ballistic shock is what liquefies your organs making that massive wound cavity. Then there is also 45+p. I consider a 9mm a lot like a .556 in the ar platform. Fast, penetrates but takes time to stop. There is a reason police have to shoot someone 15 times to stop them. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83975638 08/13/2022 12:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You need to face reality… What can you accurately fire, repeatedly, under high stress? Six shots of 38 special that you can place center mass after running a 1/4 mile to get your heart pumping is better than a .45 that you manage one shot and miss everything else. Yes, stopping power is part of the discussion, but for average individuals what can actually be used is more important. A 22lr wheel gun in the hands of an elderly individual is more valuable than a 9mm that they don’t have the grip strength to hold tightly enough for it to properly cycle. This isn’t a place for pride. Know your limitations. Know thyself. |
