Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83813785 Your likely looking at FPS for your comparison when the difference is in bullet weight and energy. Ballistic shock is what liquefies your organs making that massive wound cavity. Then there is also 45+p. I consider a 9mm a lot like a .556 in the ar platform. Fast, penetrates but takes time to stop. There is a reason police have to shoot someone 15 times to stop them. Just be a man and carry the S&W500. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84004559 Harder to control, especially under stress. You want something that your wife and kids can use too. Ignore the "mine is bigger than yours" crowd. A 9mm relatively well placed bullet is better than a 45 miss, and if needed you can shoot 2 more times fast. I think a full size 1911 is significantly easier to control than any of those small plastic 9mm’s. The worst s&w j frame scandium .357. |

FBI did do a huge study in the 80s after an embarrassing loss in a long gunfight. Look it up yourself. The results of that was, we'll to make a long story short the outcome was 40S&W. You see the FBI decided that 38 sp and 9mm were NOT enough to do the job, and thus created the 10mm. But but the girly man agents and actual girls couldnt seem to qualify with the manly 10mm, so as a solution the casing was shortened and grains of the good stuff removed and voila! Enter 40 Short and Wimpy lol. You're welcome. |

User ID: 81140300 United States 08/13/2022 12:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Each to their own. I have seen dozens and dozens of people shot. I can not recall a single incident of someone getting shot with a .45 in the head or torso that lived. Most that get shot with a 9mm survive. If you pull your gun for protection and have to use it. The offender is most likely going to retreat especially if shot, so either caliber will work for that purpose. If you want the person dead though it’s .45 caliber all the way. I have both and like both. For competition shooting I would go 9mm, less recoil, higher capacity and smooth as silk. If a bear or human was trying to kill me. It’s no question I would want a .45. The blood pumped out of .45 hole is way more than a 9mm which causes faster blood pressure drop which cause loss of conscious and then death. FBI study is a joke. If anyone is citing FBI studies and believes in the FBI today, I can’t help them. |

If a 9mm HP hits a vital organ it's just as likley to cause death as a .45. Expansion is better on most 9mm HP too. |

This means, that one 9mm is not enough to kill someone, especially someone high on drugs or jihad. 45 is enough. Just carry an extra mag. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80939284 All handguns and all guns period are offensive to liberals. Don’t worry about being offensive. Just get what’s right for you. 9mm works for most as a good all around self defense caliber. If you plan to use a rifle for self defense such as an AR15 or an AK then invest in a good suppressor to go with it. If you ever have to shoot your rifle indoors, you and your entire family will have permanent hearing loss if it’s unsupressed. Rifles are way way louder than a handgun. |

You can’t possibly say something that is smaller and lighter and holds less powder has the same ballistics as a bullet that is significantly heavier and holds more powder. It’s physics. You don’t hunt a deer with 9mm but you can with a .45. |

A super nice steel 1911 with gorgeous checkered wood grips is worthless if you leave it in the glove box because its too big or heavy for what you're wearing today. A plastic 9 is more versatile and comfortable in shorts. While it is true a 9hp may expand, A 45 never shrinks. The true power depends on the round since Force=mass x velocity squared. The 45 may double the mass but the 9+p can have nearly twice the velocity which gets squared. If you are limited to only 1, then 9mm is the most versatile. For full disclosure my compromise is a 9mm bullet powered by a 40cal case (aka 357sig). |
