They could have had a reporter actually in water up to their Mid Chest WHILE STANDING UP vs having to have the reporter SIT DOWN in the water so as to FAKE IT which is their normal operating mode!! Virtually NOTHING on any News site while it was ongoing, to say nothing about the Weather Channel TV ones. |

Saved 1 lost 1 in the swift water. Swift water rescue boats on their way to county. Go below ground for tornado, get to higher ground for flooding :( And if it's happening at the same time.... A friend called me freaking out this morning, saying that there are still bodies on the Vine Street Expressway in Philly (under water). I can't imagine that is true and haven't heard that anywhere else, but that road is basically a tunnel with no roof. The walls are 20 or 30 feet high and you are driving under the regular city roads - not elevated roads - when you drive on it. That would be horrible if it's true, because people are tubing and kayaking down the road drinking beer. This morning I drove over the Cooper River (Camden NJ area) and it is still full to the tip top of the banks. I've heard the water is still rising along the Raritan River and in Manayunk. The tornado in Mullica Hill was an F3. That same friend said her co-worker lost his house in that one, but he was at the gym when it happened and had no idea 'til he got to his street. Last count I saw was 25 dead and 6 still missing in NJ. When I was a kid, I was brought up on slides of the 1962 Nor'Easter that wiped out entire towns along the bay and the ocean. My mother's parents took the kids in the car and drove up and down the shore and the bay where there was the longest line of cars they had ever seen, and took pictures they turned into slides. In the 80s we used to go to this place called Money Island to find rocks for the house/garden ... and the waves would wash over the foundations of the homes that got eaten in 1962. In my family over the years, we've had multiple state champion swimmers and a state champion surfer, and we are all boaters ... family legend has it down to the 1962 storm, after which my grandpa declared that the thing most likely to kill you in New Jersey is water, and he insisted his 10 kids be strong swimmers. When I was in 8th grade (1989) it was mandated that all 8th grade health and PE students in the state get their boating license, so we all got our boating licenses at school at 13, the minimum age. My point is people think of new Jersey as some kind of urban jungle when it's really a delta ... just like the Mississippi delta. We have tidal rivers where the tides come up miles inland. The worst shark attack in history was 8 miles inland in New Jersey. There's no line between the land and the water. Everyone who lives here needs to understand that the water comes quick. There should be mandatory education when you get your NJ driver's license. You could drive for years and years across a small bridge and not even realize there's a creek there, then one day it's a lake and you're dead.
