nobody wants to work
he has work backed up

 Quoting: CharlieFoxtrot

there's no one who can do the work

it takes a while of practice of trial and error to get good at welding/exhaust fab

no one is willing to teach it either

maybe if his shop offered an apprenticeship

no they aren't willing to do that are they?

they only want someone who is already trained with years of experience and all their own tools

right?

Exhaust work is an art form. Sure you will have the gravy jobs (just replacing the muffler or cats which become routine and tedious) but most of those are modular now and are bolt-in, making things much easier for the most part. Custom exhaust jobs will be the relief valve. Learn about scavenging. It is fulfilling work and welding skills will always be needed. H-pipes, x-pipes, resonators, muffler placement in relation to desired tone and/or volume... yeah.

Edit: forgot about turbo plumbing.

Yes, it's absolutely an art...I custom bent all of my pipes...

A gynecologist who had lost interest in his medical practice decided to change careers and enrolled in auto mechanic school.
He performed well in the course but was still shocked when he got an off-the-chart 200 on his final exam. He asked the instructor to explain the grade.
"I gave you 50 points for taking the engine apart correctly," the teacher said, "50 points for putting it back together correctly -- and an extra 100 points for doing it all through the muffler."

Nobody respects mechanics. Everyone wants it done now for free. Fuk working on cars and I am an expert with all the tools. No way everyone is a pain in the ass in those shops esp the bosses. ASSHOLES.

It's an extremely tiring and grueling job as well. One you are on the assembly line there is no stopping it. They want you at that shop YOUR ENTIRE WAKING LIFE. It's not worth the commitment. Long time pro mechanic here. I do video production now. If it was like 3 days a week I would do it but no they insist you be there every waking second.

lmao

you are delusional

first off you have 0 experience

its going to take time for you to learn

the audacity of you to think you can just waltz in and start doing that kind of work

You said you do IT, well i can just show up to work consistently and be willing to learn, so where's the IT firm that's going to hire me with no experience?

holy crap the ego on you

but i would be entertained to watch you actually tell him you would like the job

I would love to watch your face as he explains how he needs someone who can start work right away , not someone that will spend weeks to months learning, and then years perfecting the art

holy shit

The premise of this thread is OP wants to come in and claim everyone is lazy today and no one wants to work.

he wants to use this muffler shop as his example, but of course this backfired

the reason the owner is backed up on work is because he won't hire and train someone who has no experience

he only wants people who can come in and start working right away

now OP having realized how stupid he is, enters a strong defensive stance

lmao

I like working but I'm lazy too. The 5 days working 2 days off to me seems good in that you have a balance. If it's true that the muffler places are not allowing that, it's to their own detriment.

I do feel for small businesses, they are being zapped by the vultures.

Exhaust work is the worst. Your working over your head all day, burning your hands daily. Getting rust in your eyes. Doing custom exhausts for punk kids who planned it themselves, So you do what they want and it sounds like shit. They love it, Im like dont tell anyone I made that stupid drone machine.

Agreed is tough work, and some can't stand the heat...I designed systems that people loved...I would build their ideas if feasible and legal, but they usually accepted my system...I knew what sounds good on what vehicle so I just had to determine what sound they were looking for...Flow Master has a site where you can hear different systems...

Many years of Ford pickups don't need mufflers if you want it to sound cool...The converters kill enough sound, so even putting a Flow Master or other performance muffler on it, just kills the sound...

I've got people offering me work left and right and telling me to name my price.

Landscaping, construction, garage door installation, culinary work, bar tending, cannabis cultivation...

I'm in Vermont. Plenty of people are just fine sitting on their ass collection unemployment and gov bennies. A large portion of the younger population is hooked on fentanyl, pills, heroin, and coke which they are too stupid and too poor to realize is actually meth.

Weird times we live in.
