You spent hundreds of hours learning how to tighten two nuts and you call mechanics low IQ cretins?

epiclol

If you were REALLY smarter than they were you wouldn't have had a whole engine replaced because it had a bad MAF sensor

cruise

Yes, there are dishonest mechanics, and they see a Mc Mansion type cubical class retard coming from a mile away in his fancy fucking crossover SUV.

Most of them would never rip off a fellow working man, but there are exceptions to every rule.

yeahsure you must be a mechanic. You have no reading compehension skill.

Exhaust work is an art form. Sure you will have the gravy jobs (just replacing the muffler or cats which become routine and tedious) but most of those are modular now and are bolt-in, making things much easier for the most part. Custom exhaust jobs will be the relief valve. Learn about scavenging. It is fulfilling work and welding skills will always be needed. H-pipes, x-pipes, resonators, muffler placement in relation to desired tone and/or volume... yeah.

Edit: forgot about turbo plumbing.

No loyalty either. Employers stopped being loyal to their employee's and thus employees are not longer loyal to their employers. Even if you are a class act and try to give your boss two week notice when switching jobs, you can expect to be let go right their on the spot. And, of coarse sometime people just quite without warning either, or just stop showing up. Which is the ultimate screw you to their work places.

Businesses started this nonsense of not caring about their employees back in the late 80s early 90s and rightfully so the employees now certainly don't give too forks about the employers.

Why would anyone want to go back to work since there is an extremely strong possible they will shut everything down again in fall/winter

So they can spend months trying to navigate getting back on unemployment and lose everything like last time?

Covid is fucking SEASONAL that’s why it’s HILARIOUS to see all these idiots patting themselves on the back saying we’re back and it’s post covid time

Is anyone paying attention to south of the equator lol

Has anyone realized how bad it is that the new mutations are crippling India, Thailand, vietnam, phillipines etc, after they had some sort of immunity to the early variants lol

There’s just as many cases and hospitalizations now as there were in November …we are WORSE than we were this time last year lol

It’s like living in bizzaro world. I’ve never seen so many morons running government in my life…I’ve never realized just How retarded the citizenry was and how extensive the idiocy has spread

Everyone is running around injecting themselves with genetic therapy that doesn’t work on any of the new variants and where the most affected population 60+ Starts to lose most antibodies after three months and has none at 5 lol

Meanwhile in South America and Mexico there are mass infections and that shit is stewing around mutating like crazy lol….wait till it becomes a Latino MERS

It’s comical

A gynecologist who had lost interest in his medical practice decided to change careers and enrolled in auto mechanic school.
He performed well in the course but was still shocked when he got an off-the-chart 200 on his final exam. He asked the instructor to explain the grade.
"I gave you 50 points for taking the engine apart correctly," the teacher said, "50 points for putting it back together correctly -- and an extra 100 points for doing it all through the muffler."

I certainly don't think all mechanics are crooks, and I know how to do some basic work on my car but not enough to do more, I realize how hard some of the work can be and I respect the trade.

I'm willing to pay really good money, almost 50% more than standard rates but the problem is finding honest and COMPETENT people to do the work where I am.

If you are the honest, super skilled guy you claim to be
I have 110% respect for you, the work can be physically hard, and many times frustrating if you have things like rusted fasteners to deal with as well up north.

There are losers in every line of work, usually because they're not any good or dont have any fuckin brains.

cruisewuflu

First of all, you dont RENT a shop, you build one, on your own fuckin land in a location that is not to hard to find or get to, and you pay off your debts as soon as you are able to financially even if you have to scrimp. This cuts down on INTEREST, which is often 30 percent of any kind of business development
THEN, you actually work yourself. You are there in the shop ramrodding anyone you hire and doing the hardest and most profitable jobs YOURSELF, and you pay employees based on their ability TO MAKE YOU MONEY

Mkay?.

You dont have to be a certified public accountant to run a business either, you just need to know some old alcoholic who hates the government and is good with numbers

There's no standard for custom work...

On the diagnostic side there were standard prices, but when it comes to labor, I operated by the job and not by the hour unless it's a long tedious job like drilling a head or manifold bolt extraction...
 Quoting: BRIEF

Did you ever remove exhaust manifold bolts from the heads of Ford FE engines? 352,360,390 v/8s from the 60s and 70s
 Quoting: rccola

The secret there is two things really, heat them to red hot with a torch before trying to remove them and use a socket especially designed for removing rounded or rusted nuts. You should also give it a liberal dose of penetrating oil AFTER it cools off and let it sit overnight. BE PATIENT.

What this does is causes the bolt (or stud) to expand enough to break the rust free from the cast iron head , and it gives the penetrating oil a gap to go into in by something called capillary action. The bitch can be when you break off a stud in the head by trying to remove a rusted on nut (and they are always rusted on), but if you get them red hot and let them cool before you try to get them out they will come off pretty easy. studs can be removed by the same technique once you get the manifold off, if you need to replace them. You'll need a GOOD set of vice grips for this "procedure".
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80319674

No oil and no cooling, extract red hot! Heat the area around the stud to expand the metal and you must have a feel for the stud turning or twisting...
 Quoting: BRIEF

Huh huh. If you try to wrench a bolt out while it's really hot it will twist off every fuckin time because the steel is much weaker while above 1000 degrees hot.

.The idea is it EXPANDS while it's hot, which breaks the rust bond between the head and the bolt. This bond can be like it's welded in. The bolt then contracts when it cools down. When it cools down it will be much stronger than while hot.

Follow my instructions and you wont have to have it drilled out, ever.

You dont know the first thing about having a successful business.

Rule 1, location.

Yea i can build a shop in the middle of nowhere, but who is going to bring me their car?

Most successful shops are in the middle of town in high traffic areas.

A half a mile from what town?

Bumfucksville? Population 25?

You arent going to find land suitable for auto use within close proximity to a booming city.

Even if you did cities are large, half a mile north is still further than staying in city limits or being in the south part of town.

Re: So I talked to a muffler shop owner yesterday while my car was on the lift
