OP, do both. Never quit a paying job for a fun job in the middle of DOOM. Use the fun job to daydream inventions. Use the IT job to implement the patents.

Exhaust work is an art form. Sure you will have the gravy jobs (just replacing the muffler or cats which become routine and tedious) but most of those are modular now and are bolt-in, making things much easier for the most part. Custom exhaust jobs will be the relief valve. Learn about scavenging. It is fulfilling work and welding skills will always be needed. H-pipes, x-pipes, resonators, muffler placement in relation to desired tone and/or volume... yeah.

Edit: forgot about turbo plumbing.

Yes, it's absolutely an art...I custom bent all of my pipes...

The future belongs to people that can fix things and know how to survive. Young people today stare at their phones all day and never bother to even check their oil.

Correct. Skilled tradesmen and tradeswomen will be increasingly sought after for their skill set which fewer and fewer people possess.

I'm looking forward to the return of the occupation of Master Machinist, which has all but gone extinct. I've been searching for someone to train me in that field but there are few master machinists around. I knew a couple growing up in the Caribbean. It was incredible to me that you could hand them a block of metal and some basic tools and they could, with time, produce a firearm or a watch or a valve or... well just about anything with enough time.

I'm not referring to the new definition of master machinist, which apparently has morphed into someone who runs manufacturing lines and CNC equipment. I'm referring to the Master Machinist of days past who could produce any and all mechanical components out of raw materials.

personally i've never looked down on anyone who's an automechanic, or construction worker or electrician, or plumber or, etc etc

It's never occurred to me exactly WHY anyone would.

because it's real work? its actually hard work?

i'll tell you where this reverse work ethic is coming from.

it's coming from the race of WALL STREET PARASITES who truly believe working people are suckers, idiots, losers

because THEY truly do NOT do any productive work and make 100 times more money than people who do work

I've got people offering me work left and right and telling me to name my price.

Landscaping, construction, garage door installation, culinary work, bar tending, cannabis cultivation...

I'm in Vermont. Plenty of people are just fine sitting on their ass collection unemployment and gov bennies. A large portion of the younger population is hooked on fentanyl, pills, heroin, and coke which they are too stupid and too poor to realize is actually meth.

Weird times we live in.

you should go to a message forum populated by {{THEM}}

that is almost ALL they talk about, is how much they HATE plumbers, auto mechanics, electricians, farmers, anyone who works with their hands and does productive labor.

NOT an exaggeration, for {{THEM}} this is the meaning of their life, somehow getting it over on the workers, screwing them out of the product of their labor, enslaving them IS fucking them, it's the same sort of thrill of conquest only infinitely more satisfying to them.

Re: So I talked to a muffler shop owner yesterday while my car was on the lift
My husband is a physician who employs 6 additional people in his office. One recently retired and he has no applications, no leads...what use to be a coveted job in our city is now a job that no one is even applying for. He offers full time pay for 3 days a week of work plus bonuses, insurance and all other benefits of full time job. Not one person has applied.

The Kroger store by us use to be beautiful and upscale...a really great place to shop, now its a sh@t hole. Over the last year its become a dump. People on neighborhood app are complaining daily about it. The problem is they can't get anyone to work. One neighbor said he was using the bathroom there and an employee went in to the stall next to him and "pleasured himself" lol, they had an awkward moment at the sinks...it use to be a great place to work and they had their pick of potential employees. Bottom line is no one wants to work anymore bc of government Hand outs. This will and has driven many small businesses out of business.

I hear ya.
Been in IT for 25 years now and I am amazed how meaningless (to me) that work can be. And how very important others find it to be... I’ll never get that.

Incidentally, I am going to replace the rear muffler of my car myself, this weekend. It will be the first major car repair that I’ve ever done.

Muffler shops

Radiator shops

Specialized automotive repairmen are a dying breed

It took brains and skill to weld round pipe and solder brass

And people able and willing, and now can charge $100 /hr
As less people decide to be mechanics, machinists, plumbers, carpenters, etc their demand will continue to grow.

BENDING PIPE?

NO ONE SMART WILL WORK UNDER BIDEN

NO ONE SMART WILL PAY BIDENS TAXES

ONLY DUMB IDIOTS REFUSE TO WORK AND FORCE THE GOBERMINT TO SHOW THEIR COMMIE HANDS, JUST LIKE THEY WERE FORCED TOO.

NO ONE NEEDS TO WORK TO BUST THE GOBERMINT

THATS THE POINT, GO BE OVER 50, YOU HAVE LITTLE LIFE TO LIVE...

BE UNDER 50, WORK AND PAY TAXES, AND YOU ARE SUBMITTING YOUR FUTURE TO THOSE OVER 50 WHO ARE DYING ANYWAYS...

Mufflers need to be banned just like gun silencers. The other day someone assaulted the cia with a silenced car. If the car had no muffler on it they could have heard it coming. Dont go into a line of work that is going to get wiped out. Not to mention electric cars dont need mufflers and fake gasoline shortages are starting to get hyped in the news
