Quoting: pud2.0 it's kinda gross but it's still quality meat. And when was the last time YOU saw a black bear? I practically live in the forest. I have never seen one. I have seen sign. But no bear. Please people, don't think you will go hunting for food, and fill your bellies, when grocery stores are empty. You will STARVE!! We have all kinds of wildlife that comes on our property year round. Rabbits, deer, fox, raccoon, squirrel, snakes, an entire bank of generations of groundhog, plus other animals with the occasional bear or two. The deer and rabbit are notorious for getting in and damaging our garden every year. We are constantly looking for ways to deter the animals. We also have an abundance of cudzu (spelling?). It’s a GMO ground covering root vine the government planted many years ago on the high bank to prevent erosion. The plant eating animals love the stuff but it’s wickedly invasive. We have to set traps often in the summer months because of the wildlife getting into things like the trash or to stop skunks from spraying the dogs. I love going out on my front porch and watching the deer less than 100 ft from me year round. It’s beautiful and very peaceful. That is all good, until the first time you shoot one. Then, they disappear. |

Quoting: TheGasMan II https://imgur.com/a/TvAoHxt Well, good for you but not good to gloat about your good fortune while others near and far are unatomfeed their family.... hopefully a lesson learned.. Frozen meat doesn't keep forever. Unless you have it in a zub zero deep freeze, which apparently you don't, it will begin to go bad in less than a year. To maintian the sub zero freeze, you needed electricity. Good luck with that one in the next big one. So, there's that. So this is why people who live in cold places might do better than people in hot places when the shit hits the fan. Food. Is it easier to prep in under 32 F? or over 80F? Pick one. I'd say cold. If you have the clothes to keep you warm 24/7 cold would be better than extreme heat survival. Most people have no clue what life is like without electricity. Here in the south, we traditionally only killed large animals such as hogs and cows, in the dead of winter. In 60 degree or warmer weather, you probably couldn't skin and butcher the animal before the meat spoiled. There was no fresh meat from livestock in the summer, down South, before refrigerators. Only smoked hams, seasoning meat, bacon, and salt pork. People ate mostly soups and vegetables, with just enough meat for seasoning. My grandmother only had an icebox, and I can remember that the ONLY fresh meat she had, during warm weather, was chicken and freshly caught fish. Sometimes we would call up bobwhite, and shoot them. That was some good eating, with rice and gravy!! There were plenty of squirrel and rabbits, but we didn't kill them, until after the first frost, because of wolves. My grandmother had electricity in her home, but it was only for a light bulb in each room. There was no running water, and the toilet was a big chair with a hole cut in the seat, with a slop jar under it, on the back porch. Her cook stove was a huge wood fired one, that kept the kitchen unbearable in the summer. Water came from a well, and drinking water was always in a wash basin, on the side porch. A dipper hung on a nail above the wash basin. Everybody drank out of that dipper. All of the kids took a bath in a big washtub in the backyard. Cold water, two at a time in the tub. We all used the same water to bathe in. I remember what it was like, before modern conveniences. I HOPE NONE OF US HAVE TO ENDURE THAT!! |

Uncle Intel: chain family restaurants, on-site cafes for businesses and hospitals, fast-food outlets, etc will be selling fake meat creations that are supposedly healthier. Think spaghetti with fake meat sauce, stuffed peppers, fake meatloaf, will be pushed as real meat becomes much pricier. Fast-food outlets will also be pushing new kid friendly desserts as a depressed population starts craving even more fat & sugar. Meals in Vegas too expensive? Doughnut chains are exploding. Goodbye to cheap steak & prime rib dinners, as well as 1/2 lb cheeseburger & fries specials in off-strip cafes. |

Quoting: Justme C'est Moi I have the feeling a few of them would end up on the dinner table if things got rough. You can get a fair amount of good breakfast sausage off of one. I have had wild hog on many occasions. It does have a bit of a gamey taste, but when ground into a seasoned sausage, you can't really taste the gaminess. I wired up a 50 A, 240v plug that is connected to my breaker box that allows me to feed the entire house wiring system. Obviously, I cannot power everything in the house at one time, but it is nice to be able to use what we want and not have extension cords running everywhere. It can stay on the shelf until it rots for all I care. Thats mind mindset for everything when I go shopping these days. Went to the mall last week. Clothes stores are bare and what is there looks like leftover fashion from a few years ago. Same thing for places like Ross, TJMaxx etc. Electronics, appliances, all hard to come by. Used car prices shooting up. We definitely have problems and I don't see it getting better. . |
