1. Get Shovel
2. Dig Hole
3. Buy New Dog

Not that big of a deal people. You can run to the local PetSmart and get a new animal to shit all over the place and tear up your house.

If only you could flush cats and dogs down the toilet like goldfish, having them as pets would be much easier.

Too bad he can't flush himself.

Re: My Dog Passed Away Today
Feel free to pray for a moment to see them again and know they are ok.

The one dog I was most heart-broken over was with me only a few days later. I FELT her...literally. Pulled at my feet in bed as she used to. Felt her nearby another time as well.

Our one dog struggled through several cancer surgeries, but was the most loving and life-loving dog I've ever seen. She was very close to my wife. When she died last year I prayed that God would allow her to come to my wife somehow and let her know she was ok. I never told her that.

My wife came to me a couple weeks later, extremely emotional, saying she had the most realistic dream ever of playing with her and spent time with her and knew she was ok.

I don't know where exactly they are, but they're not gone. I think they may even be close until we're strong enough to move on emotionally.

We lost 2 early last year, but got two new puppies at the end of last year. Once you have one, how can you not have that around you always? They're not replacements, they are making your family even larger.

I once heard something that hit home saying if you care so much and are such a loving owner...how can you keep that from another dog that needs that?

Sorry for you, but don't give up. They are near.

Dogcatcher

You can't replace a loved one. Unless you have loved one of these creatures you can't understand what that closeness is. It is not as simple as a piece of paper. Where you throw it to the garbage and get another one. It is a bond a love that has no boundaries. It is a closeness and trust that is established though time. A trust and a protection that happens. It is not so simple as oh well this dog died I will just go to the store and get another. If you have a heart it does not work that way. When you love these creatures he/she becomes part of your family a loved one that can't be replaced. Unless you have loved one of these creatures you can't possibly understand. He is not some material to be replaced by another material. He was a soul that I Loved and will love till I die.
 Quoting: Jarhead3024

God Bless you John - I know your pain and will have to experience it again as my current best friend gets old. My prayers are with you. You will meet again, in fact, if you watch closely for signs you may be comforted by your little buddy.

To the individual that is calling my dog a dumb animal screw you. You talk about Mccain as if you know the individual. Did you love him. Did you cry for him. did you have any hurt or emotion when he passed. I Have loved that little creature since he was two months old. I have taken care of him and loved him. Can you say the same for some individual who is a politician. SCREW YOU CALLING MY DOG A DUMB ANIMAL. YOU ARE THE DUMB ANIMAL. WHO DOES NOT HAVE LOVE IN YOUR HEART.

So sorry for your loss. It's hard, but remember all the great times together and 13 years is a pretty good run. You have both been blessed, but it is hard to feel that now. Hang in there sir. You will meet again. Souls live on and we know dogs have a wonderful soul! DB

Re: My Dog Passed Away Today
He was given a medication that caused side effects. here he started having complications with coordination, and mobility. To the point that he was not able to walk. I took him to the vet they did a flush to cleanse the toxins from his system. It did not work. The symptoms remained. So we decided to do charcoal to detoxify his body and it backfired. Somehow when he swallowed the pill it caused some sort of breathing problem and he had the breathing problem for about two three hours then he just gave his last breath today. I tried to fit it in but it's been a week of fighting for him to recover till today when he gave his last breath. If you have a dog never allow your dog to take Cisapride as a medication they never warned me of the side effects but if you read the toxicology report regarding that medication each side effect my dog went through. I did everything to fight for his life because he did not deserve to go out like that. I lost the fight.
 Quoting: Jarhead3024

None of this is your fault brother. I googled cisapride and there is lots of bad news there. Shame on your vet for not sharing the side effects and giving you a choice if the potential side effects were worth it. I have been leery of vets for awhile now due to a similar situation (different drug) with my cats who survived.

One thing also says it was due to be pulled off the market in July 2000.??? Google search = cisapride

Just know you gave your dog your best for 13 years, to his last breath.

God Bless You sir...When you know the time is right I hope you find another dog and great friend. We know your dog can never be replaced. I feel he would want you to be happy and give another dog a great home and life.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

It's hard losing a pet. I avoided getting a pet for a long time because they have far less of a lifespan than we do, and it's so hard to lose them.

One thing I believe about all pet owners who love and care for their animals, is that there are so many animals who have been abandoned and need a home.

The pet that you lost had a good home with a person who loved him, and he won't forget you.

He was one of the lucky ones.

I hope you consider getting another dog who needs a good home and a good friend like you.

Sorry you lost a friend.

My dog is the best dog I have ever had the privilege to call my friend too. It will be sad for me when he goes too, unless I go before him.

Your loss got me thinking about how people keep pets and led me to the following article written from a vets perspective.?

I think its worth reading for perspective.

Is keeping pets a luxury?
What does the answer say about our profession?
November 20, 2017
By Patty Khuly, VMD, MBA

Ever marveled at how much more livable our lives are now that we’re lucky enough to have pets in them? Wonder how we could ever function without their soothing companionship and unconditional love?

If so, you agree with the vast majority of your clientele. Yet here’s the rub: Our culture wants it both ways: It lauds our evolving relationship with household animals as awe-inspiring and overwhelmingly positive for humanity, but it can’t help but question their collective expense. Are they a luxury?

Excessive, indulgent, inessential, hedonistic, frilly, sumptuous, extravagant.

Such are the adjectives the word “luxury” denotes. None of which, I’d argue, apply to my own conception of the animals I keep as pets. Nor is it likely to jibe with most of our clients’ take on pet-dom.

After all, most of us don’t necessarily see animal-keeping as a personal choice. We view animals among us as the result of a millennia-long process of domestication––a complex, symbiotic relationship that, evolutionarily speaking, defines our very humanity.

Which perhaps explains why humanity largely, it seems, continues to feel compelled to live in concert with animals, despite the fact that in all our modernity we’ve mostly “aged out” of keeping pets as ratters, hunters, and defenders (among other survival-based uses). Finish reading here. [link to www.veterinarypracticenews.com (secure)]

Re: My Dog Passed Away Today
After I lost my other dog, Katie, who was a Shepard/Husky mix, to lymphoma, I was really missing her. I couldn't stop crying. So I went in my room and surrounding her portrait was a big square double rainbow. She won that portrait at the pet store contest. The rainbow was so huge and bright and beautiful, I've never seen anything like it. It lasted for an hour.

We searched for where it was coming from but we could not figure it out. It came back every day around noon and stayed for less time and gradually disappeared over a months time. Then it never came back. I know she sent it to comfort me.

So sorry about Rocky, I know your pain.hugs

I do truly hope you can find some comfort in knowing that you gave him such a wonderful life from beginning to end, is there any gift greater than that? I’m sure his heart was as peaceful in his last breath as the countless breaths you shared from day one together. I don’t think his joy in this life is gone and really believe their spirits greet us when it’s our time to move on from this life. Sending much love.

My last dog was a 100lbs fat pudgy ass Full Blooded Norwegian Elk Hound you would never expect to be out of shape like that (despite our wildest pumpkin diet efforts) or as loyal as he was. He took his dying breath at 18 years old, the Vet had long since given up telling us to put his ass on a diet, crawling over to the feet of my then 9yr old daughters room to check on her one last time. And I watched it happen and had to go in there find a reason to pick her up distract and remove her from the room so I could tell her what had happened and I’ll be damned I watched that dog do just that. You couldn’t leave doors closed with him he’d whine all night at the door wanting to check on everyone. That was one hell of a dog to me and you know the best ones are usually not much to look at and never what you would expect. You know ? Hang in there OP. And take as long as you need to get ok with this but then go rescue another :). It’s not replacing a dog. It’s saving another dog. :).

i know how you feel. i feel so bad about my dog that i have been looking for a pet cemetary to bury him in just like a human would be. i found one and instead of cremating him,he will be buried in a wooden box and a stone will be placed upon his grave where i can visit him.
(and by the way, this is no joke, to make light of the OP. my dog actually died on the same day he posted, so i really feel the same as he does over it)
