What is the freaking deal with human longing?

It seems so few of us can ever truly get any satisfaction.

More is better! They teach that to kids at a very young age. The vicious cycle must go on. It has always been the divine plan. Just like in all previous civilizations of time ours will be leveled and scattered.

Do we not desire and worry whether we shall obtain that which we desire?

Is this desire to improve not tinged with doubt and worry?

The worry that we are less than we could be.

The doubt that we are imperfect as we are.

This is an interesting concept I've grappled with for quite a long time.

Does this mean I am already dead prior to entering this realm?

Is this hell eternal or is it a prison sentence?

Is it a purification process?

When Christ returns will He set us captives free?

I get it. Been suffering for years, basically all my "little" problems added up (headaches/migraines/various pain/discomfort/OCD/bad constpipation/depression/inability to feel "anthing" good). I'll feel shit for ages and finally get used to it and able to tolerate it enough to shrug it off and just "get on with things." Then BOOM as if by magic I'll randomly have a good day (for seemingly NO REASON) and just like that my tolerance resets and it'sack to suffering again.

The less I desire, the more content I am with life.

And the less shit I get done, so then I'm forced to start desiring again.

I'm right there with you. I've been on antidepressants and antipsychotic medications for a while but I've since weaned myself off of them because although I didn't have as much negative self talk or negative thoughts going on; I didn't have much of anything going on. I was a blank slate. I feel everything far too deeply and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I want to be able to feel, even if I must feel sorrow or pain or heartache. I want to learn to transmute these feelings into something more; not run from them and self medicate. But the more good we experience the more we crave the good times and become increasingly dissatisfied with the daily doldrums of existence. It almost makes me think there might be true reward in stoicism. In non-attachment to either good times or bad times but just to see them as times that come and go like the clouds in the sky.

I get that in some evolutionary sense, yes desire serves a purpose. Self preservation. Self betterment. etc.

But how much of desire is productive and how much of it is completely and utterly selfish and, more often than not, destructive.

The serpent chasing its tail around and 'round from cradle to the grave.

All buddhists desire is death. Id say theyre the ones with the problem.

Eternal life after this life is dead and gone.

Death is still a gate the religious or the adept must pass through.

Death is the final stage of initiation.
