HACKER MADE UNITED FLIGHT FLY SIDEWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 5917739 United States 05/17/2015 09:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From Wired article: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69218074 He obtained physical access to the networks through the Seat Electronic Box, or SEB. These are installed two to a row, on each side of the aisle under passenger seats, on certain planes. After removing the cover to the SEB by “wiggling and Squeezing the box,” Roberts told agents he attached a Cat6 ethernet cable, with a modified connector, to the box and to his laptop and then used default IDs and passwords to gain access to the inflight entertainment system. Once on that network, he was able to gain access to other systems on the planes. Just don't let people next to you uncover the SEB and plug an ethernet cable into it. ...got a question/observation... Think about the physical requirements of doing this under-the-seat hardware juggling in today's jetliners...no knee room, and certainly little if any ability to go fiddling with things under your seat. I'm wondering about the ergonomic reality of this scenario. What people refuse to understand.. just because the two networks were separate does not mean one could not infiltrate the other. It has been tested between two laptops that even audio undetectable to humans can transfer data. People have got to start thinking outside the box... Besides - if this guy was that good with code who is to say he did not plug the cable in and configure what each wire did? To normal people who do not think outside the box like Watermellon - this is not possible. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Must be a stupid 'fact-resistant' liberal that Watermellon. Always criticizing what he does not understand. You have no idea what you're talking about. There is a system called "autothrottles." Each throttle is independently driven to whatever computer-predetermined position they individually need to be at. The two throttles are independent of the other, but there is a "comparator" system that compares the position of each. When they start to drive to "DIFFERENT" positions, the system turns the autothrottle system OFF. At that point they cannot be commanded anywhere except manually by the pilot. There is NO FUCKING WAY some yo-yo hacker in the back could EVER induce yaw in an airliner. NO. FUCKING. WAY. The guy is a liar. He's admitting to a crime that it is NOT POSSIBLE TO COMMIT. |

No fucking way? You are the one who has no idea buddy - and sound like someone who would say we could never get to the moon. Code is written by humans. Authorities or not - clearly if this guy can replicate his claim then it would be undeniably possible. It is only impossible until it has been done. Another one who believes everything they are told by 'manuals and training'. Meanwhile hackers laugh at those with ignorant views such as yours. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 44860960 United States 05/17/2015 10:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most are wise enough to put at least a simple password on their home router/phones, yet a commercial airliner is wide open for anyone? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41469394 Maybe, they just don't want anyone to know that the only ones capable of accessing those computer systems, are the creators of those systems and selected governments. Exactly - did the guy have any inside knowledge of their systems? |

(OP) 05/17/2015 12:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And too much of it will take an airliner's tail off - as what happened with the American crash shortly after 911. Called "slipping" or to "slip" sideways. This has a goal as an intention, more than likely to limit how much computer power one can carry on an plane. Slipping is a totally different maneuver than yaw. :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Choice is yours. |

(OP) 05/17/2015 01:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Of COURSE it didn't happen. Pilots, crew, and passengers would've made news revealing that their flight was flying SIDEWAYS! Quoting: Basil Fawlty Jeez, can I sell you guys a bridge? He suggested he throttled one engine up enough to get the plane to yaw a bit. Not much. A bit. I bet it was more along the lines of him claiming he could do it or maybe he said he did but was lying. Could he do it? Yeah, I think he might could. But what he described would be perceptible to him because he knew he was doing it. But if you add 4 percent thrust to one engine it would be hard for anyone else to notice. Bingo!! :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Choice is yours. |

He did it for fun, cyber security expert who has a lot of vids out there. Used a modified CAT6 to hack his seats entertainment system hookup. I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three. |
