If he truly was some bad ass code writer and/or hardware designer they would jump on the "invention" the reason they reject it with an excuse like "why has no one done this before" is because they feel sorry for him and how retarded he is and they are letting him down gently without crushing his dellusional dreams. - Watermelon Fucker |

It's scary to think by publiching such a story it could lead and endager more lives. Why didn't they squash this ??? That's what I want to know |

I know a few hackers, one particularly good one who describes himself as an anarchist. In general ive found they hate governments but wouldn't harm innocent civilians. Imagine the likes of ISIS having the ability to bring down planes via hacking. Scary stuff. Anti-Zionism NOT Antisemitism |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 59140020 United States 05/17/2015 04:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Roberts said they were able to turn the engine controls from cruise to climb, “which definitely had the desired effect on the system—the plane sped up and the nose of the airplane went up.” If this was the case then the auto pilot would put the nose of the aircraft down and no rise in altitude would have happened....I call bull shiot and raise the bull shiot flag on this guy....He is lying. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 59140020 United States 05/17/2015 04:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I call bull shiot on this....The IFE and the flight thrust computers are not connected. There is no way to hack into the trust management computers let alone fly and airplane sideways. Not without a very stiff cross wind anyway. Sorry I didn't type this right....What I meant to say is the data cables from the aircraft flight side to the IFE are only one way data cables and lack the ability to carry instructions back to the flight side. Just like there are two different types of data cables you can hook up to your computer, one which can carry data both ways and one that can only carry data one way. |
Yes User ID: 58414285 Australia 05/17/2015 04:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | that's not how it happened. IF IT HAPPENED and the guy wasn't bragging/lying to the FBI, he did it by connecting an ethernet cable with a modified connector into a box entertainment system box under a seat. sdot and wirred both have links to the search warrant that explain a lot. I mean it is a big IF ... What the article says is he changed the code of the plan by the entertainement system . They are not even connected to each other . You would have to believe the entertainement system under the seat is connected with the central system ..... that's not how it happened. And navigation system is connected to satellite comms. Navigation system connected to main controls. Voila. Hack the satellite comms and you can access the main controls. The fix sounds easy; have duplicate satellite comms systems so there is no interconnects.... |

User ID: 48442288 France 05/17/2015 05:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hijack hack: Modern planes vulnerable to remote midair takeover, says US govt watchdog Modern commercial aircraft could be remotely hacked and taken control of, even by someone on the ground, as they are increasingly connected to the internet, according to the latest report by the US Government Accountability Office. "Modern communications technologies, including IP connectivity, are increasingly used in aircraft systems, creating the possibility that unauthorized individuals might access and compromise aircraft avionics systems," the report states, quoting cyber security and aviation experts. Modern aircraft systems use IP networking to communicate within the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), and if one system connected to an IP network is compromised, damage can potentially spread to other systems on the network. -50% read more: [link to rt.com] Published time: April 15, 2015 13:29 I came. I am sure they can do the same from the ground - any of these "fly by wire" passenger aircraft. To repeat. IF he did it, he did it WITH a wire connected from his notebook to a box under a seat that connects several monitors. There is actually NO evidence it can be done via wifi on the plane and certainly not from the ground. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69246900 United States 05/17/2015 05:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Of COURSE it didn't happen. Pilots, crew, and passengers would've made news revealing that their flight was flying SIDEWAYS! Quoting: Basil Fawlty Jeez, can I sell you guys a bridge? He suggested he throttled one engine up enough to get the plane to yaw a bit. Not much. A bit. I bet it was more along the lines of him claiming he could do it or maybe he said he did but was lying. Could he do it? Yeah, I think he might could. But what he described would be perceptible to him because he knew he was doing it. But if you add 4 percent thrust to one engine it would be hard for anyone else to notice. |

I think what he is saying is he increased the power to an engine on one side only and this caused the plane to yaw and continue at the same altitude and pitch, but with the nose yawed to the side, with the autopilot keeping the pitch level and altitude maintained. |
