The hacker clearly exploited a bug in the control software. So in essence the hacker exposed the nerve. Clearly they will patch this one bug while I am sure many will remain.

What I don't understand is how they want to punish people who point out the flaws ... but care nothing about remedying the flaws that were pointed out THUS LEAVING THEM OPEN TO THOSE WHO WOULD COMMIT REAL MAHEM!

"IF" you can access the flight control systems via the inflight internet/phone connections from inside the plane, that ALSO means that one could do the same thing from OUTSIDE THE PLANE (think Chinese hackers in the event of a conflict, ISIS, or other actors).

imo it is BAD NEWS that the airplane manufacturers are allowing any computer interconnect at all between the internal control systems and the outside!!

It is one thing to do a connect to a navigation device that can ONLY be used to indicate a position ... it is another thing to allow any sort of outside control of the aircraft, with any direct interconnect into the system would do.

Depending on how the MSM handles this, the airlines could be in big trouble. The technology already exists to remote controlled big aircraft - but in hackers' hands, this is NOT good. I wonder if WIRED can be sued for publishing the story.
