Toilet paper.

Antibiotics for fish from the pet store=just as good if not better than the 'human' ones.

Rechargeable batteries and a solar charger.

Lamp wick, lamp oil, lamp oil, lamp oil.

Books, books, books.
There is nothing quite as compelling as a bad idea whose time has come...

I've got some 20 lamps now.

my latest favorite are the small heavy glass older ones. Have about 20 extra glass globes stashed too.

Maybe 4 of the old metal ones.

Picked up 5 gallons of kerosene last month.

Have some extra wicks, should get more.

Amish around here sell those.

I'm going more for wind. I believe as this world unfolds the changes, it'll be plenty windy but not much for clear skies.

My 12 volt alternator systems should be the cat's ass when I'm done.

Just dug up 2 big rolls of heavy gauge wiring today. Been buried in the stuff under my overhang I just cleaned out for wood today.
Probably 30 feet of 00 gauge copper and another 2 rolls of 14 gauge, 12 conductor, 2 pieces of that , about 60 feet each.

Been stashing stuff for a long time!

Books, oh buddy. Found an old copy of the exploits of Sherlock Holmes I read at about 12 years old. Constantly getting old medical books.
Brought home about 15 books from flea market this week, cost?

About $7.

I need to put up new book shelves along ceiling. Picked up about 14 brackets a month ago, $5.

I'm long since out of book shelf space!

Why not purchase a hydrogen concentrator. It is supposed to improve fuel mileage by 50%+

Bought one for my pickup but zero room under a Ford hood. So plan on installing on a genset

Collecting spare parts for truck.

Exploring hydro power options.

Staying in one spot is still my best option for now.

Moving soon anyway, happy with new neighborhood and area so far in terms of their attitudes and readiness.
 Quoting: Kezar Stanyan

I've got the parts covered, Kinda, I live in the midst of a junk yard......

There are at least 3 or 4 old Chev trucks, most parts are interchangeable with my '75 GMC half ton 4 X 4 for about what, 20-30 year spread?

That was one of the big reasons for the "Cash for Clunkers" BS.

Get rid of the EMP proof vehicles and the easy to fix armor plated old rigs.

Need to start the Propane project soon.

I picked up an old 2 barrel carb.......won't have poo for power but it'll go farther.

Should still pull pretty good with all the low gears.

'86 Nissan D-21 'Hardbody' too.

Want to try yanking the fuel 'throttle body' and make one of several other 2 barrel carbs work on it too.

Need to get some Kenwoods fixed and sold. Blew through $1500 in the last 2 weeks.......

Bills are at least paid for a while!

Re: "Preppers", Thieves oil Pg 10, Herbalist Dr. Shultze Plague Remedy Pg 4.
I have extra chickens this year and will be pickling eggs most of the fall, once folks stop wanting our fertile eggs. Been selling about 8 dozen eggs a week through e-bay lately. However I can now start slowing down and getting some pickled. The money I have been making from selling the eggs has been going into feed so I now have an extra 6 months of whole corn put away from a neighbors farm, and have tons of it cracked I do that myself.

I also need to get some fresh vegetables next week and start dehydrating foods, I didn't get to do it yet this year because chickens ruined our whole garden this spring.

I have about 50 pounds of deer meat still in the freezer I figured I would make soup with it and can it. No one ever knows when the power might go out.

I need to now get some dried potatoes, mashed and sliced so we can have potatoes. I have close to 50 pounds of flour and need some more sugar.

I suppose I can dehydrate some onions today. I haven't done that for a year and I have 3 bags here and the way the stores sell them they go bad very fast.

I need to get some more water put away under the house this week. I have tons of soda bottles that I can wash out and use.

I also skip some of my daily medicines so that I have some held back in case if something happens.
 Quoting: pmb1

One comment I have is to quit drinking soda!
Try some Musselman's apple juice. The jugs are double thick. Stuff is expensive though, about $6-$7 a gallon.
Been using those for getting my raw milk from Amish.
Or get some Cranberry juice, medicinal and helps eliminate bladder infections. Good water jugs there too.

I've dropped 40 pounds I didn't think I was carrying around. Skin is now real thin!
I've got abs!

The HFCS in soda is really bad stuff!

I've got another big load of Oak sawmill trimmings from my Amish friend's sawmill, picked up Thursday. Lots of good 1/2 to 3/4 4 inch wide and 6 inch wide boards. A lot of what they produce is for making pallets.
Been thinking of using the bigger ones for wind turbine blades and driving some 12 volt alternators from older pickup trucks. Need to accumulate batteries.
Trailer load of sawdust again too. Need to unload all that this morning.
Might go get another load today.
Free stuff, I love it.
 Quoting: HnryBwmn///KD0WSJ

We actually have stopped drinking sodas. I am wondering how much weight we will lose. I read the study they did on teens, and I couldn't believe it when they said you had to walk 6 miles for every can of soda that you drank to get the effects to wear off. So instead I have been buying up tea bags, and making un sweetened tea. The kids are getting use to it.

This coming month I am filling up an extra propane tank and buying up about 100 packs of batteries to put away in my metal containers. Then I plan on getting a few extra car batteries and putting them away. I have run a small TV off one before when we lived in Maine.

I plan on making some soup later on this month with deer meat and canning that up. I figure it would be something on the shelf to eat in case if the power goes out. I don't want to lose the meat in the freezer. I still have about 50 pounds of deer meat up there.

This month I bought up a few solar lights and put them away including a few that can sit on the table if needed. Then I bought 4 new flashlights, and batteries to go with it.

I also bought 40 large cans of cat food and put that away. That is over 2 months supply for our old cat.

Sounds like you have it well under control!
Well done!

I have weighed about 250-255 for at least 20 years.

I'm down under 220 now.
I'm still AMAZED I could lose that much!
Getting MUCH STRONGER TOO!
I have an exercise, chin ups while I bring my knees up to my chest.......
Man those are tough! I can do about 10 now!
I've got abs!

Skin is getting real thin.

I need a butt tuck! Sagging skin is ugly!

But the rest of me looks about 18!!!!

I think eliminating HFCS is the biggest part.

Seldom eat out in restaurants.

Between processed foods, microwave no nutrition foods in restaurants......

I'm eating mainly stuff i raised myself and will be after deer tomorrow.

Out of Venison......dangit.

Yes I too can most of my venison. Saved about 2 gallon of shredded Bell and Banana peppers I just processed, frozen. Dehydrated about half. It adds a lot of color and flavor when I cook, adding dried peppers.

Power can go out, I and my food will be fine.

I had almost a bushel shredded!

Still have a gallon or more frozen from 2 years ago.....needs to go into jars with Veni soon!

Only problem then is to keep jars from freezing.

I doubt I will be going far from home for quite awhile once it gets cold.
With the Plague that is now here.

Wood burner will be going 24 hours a day soon I believe.

Will be a historic cold winter.

Be ready.

The implication is that people will be caught unprepared.

And that the worst things will catch you at the worst times....

Like electric going out when the temps are 10 below.

Or, what is going to happen here for me.....

Our well will fail when it is 10 degrees out side.

Then we will have to spend 2-3 days pulling the pump and re-doing the piping like it should have been done the first time.

Man that owns this land 'afro American engineers' every thing.

Used schedule 40 pvc, knowing it was wrong.

He probably saved $100 on the installation.

Schedule 80 is so much tougher.

We get air blasts in our water, Marie used to hate it.

Splashes you unexpectedly, often.

Air getting into the lines because of leaks or cracks in the weaker piping.

We'll fix it, when it is cold out.....

The old man is an asshole.

His $100 savings years ago will cost 2 or 3 of us 2 days of shitty work in the cold this winter.

A nice surprise.

Putting 2 quarts of honey and one pint away. Traded a dozen arrows I think I paid $20 For.

As I'm putting those away my eye fixates on a green quart jar of suerkraut.

Pretty good. Slightly more chewy than commercial and hasn't yet faded the green color.

Lunch! Split 3 or 4 rounds of Oak.
The pile is getting bigger.

None of my neighbors have even started?

WTH? Not even a chain saw in the distance for weeks.

Weird.

I expect snow in SW Missouri in the next couple weeks.

Yeah, I'm weird.

Comment on my neighbors not putting up any wood yet, includes the "Mayor" (my nickname for the butthead landownner) he lives in what I call the "Mayors mansion".
Big old stone place 1/4 mile off road. Prolly 4000 square feet.
Takes a LOT of wood all winter.
He has asked me to help him down a big Oak when it was 10 degrees and wind blowing because he ran out........
3' diameter that time, got to use the giant Stihl with 4' bar so it was kinda cool.

His house Has a giant steam system, back room downstairs about 10' X 12' X 10' ceilings.
Coal used to be used, poured in back door into the downstairs room.
3" pipes leave the 5' tall 5' long 30" wide boiler with fire box.
He hasn't put any wood up yet as far as I know.....
Whole place has coal mines all around!

My point, before I forget, monsoon rains this morning. After I got Oak unloaded (when it took a break, still ended up getting soaked) I did a doughnut in the front yard.
I can do that, I live in the country!
Sank a bit over the grown over tilled garden area.

The land around here soaks up water like a sponge.
Maybe 2" of rain this morning in 2 hours.

Once the ground is saturated even 4 X 4 tractors get buried in the woods.

Keeps raining and it gets real hard to pull any wood until ground freezes.
Might keep that in mind.
One guy buried one tractor, I buried my Dodge Dually 3 years ago. $250 in parts fixing the front axle, sank into mud and froze, took me over a week to get it out.
Spent several hours 'chiseling' frozen mud off the steering knuckles, after pulling the tires, prying them off with 6' Johnson bar.
Dang, forgot what a Nightmare that turned into!
Had to fire up the giant Oscar? tractor to yank that big dog out, pulling up hill.
Almost didn't come out.
After digging and jacking it up for another day......
Get your wood now, before it gets cold or muddy.....
Or...(apply your local difficulties here)!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I think I retired at a reasonable hour last night, don't really remember! Maybe 6 hours, good for me.

About 5 am awoke to thunder quietly in the distance.

Got dressed and went out to tarp my flea market stuff till it blew over.

About 8 got the Oak from sawmill unloaded and pulled the truck up by front door.

Torrential rains ensued. Nothing much wet, glad I got it unloaded, big Mil down bag that would not be fun if wet.

Not good for the bag either. Funny how nobody is buying important items.
They will only get more expensive.

Just like beef. Since March when I told Rie's family (suggested?) that race riots and food riots would ensue by July, That food would double in cost,

I recommended buying a second full size freezer and buy a half or more of beef.

Better beef cuts have about tripled, in the middle of pretty good cattle country. I saw her Brother and Father at the market.

Asked her Dad if he had ever bought any beef......

He says "Don't eat it any more". I asked why, "Too expensive"

Had he followed my advice he would still have half a freezer for free remaining and a good freezer would have paid for itself.

Oh well. I didn't ask if he had picked up another 1000 gallon tank and filled it. Not my business or concern I guess, not family now, right?
I'm sure did not follow that advice either.
Think ha had to pay $4 or $5 a gallon when they ran out last February.
My 400 gallon last one year, burned mostly wood.
Cost $450 to fill a year ago.
$490 this year,, furnace needs limit switches still, not in any hurry!

Bought a $14,000 drag car last month though....

Loves football.
See the correlation here?

Also think I told him to get a propane generator......

Got some gas, 5 gallon usually? Maybe?
Or just? and a good generator.
How you gonna get gas when grid goes down?

There is a chimney and a hole in the wall but doesn't own one.
Family cuts wood for income so shouldn't be a problem, if he ever did one or the other or both.....

Why do I see these people cold and hungry in January?
Working, money in bank, both parents and Rie.
They should be fine........
I see the 2 car shop he's been planning, all metal, paid for I think, still is not going up either.
}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Afro in charge and EPA are closing average of 5 coal fired steam plants PER WEEK right now.

I've read that we came within 1 or 2 substations shutting down last year would have collapsed the whole grid!!!! but when it all goes south he doesn't have a wood burner set up either.
Winter is going to be just as I've been warning, here and over at the thread about cold winter coming.
Lots, lots worse than last year. Longer, colder 50% up to 100% MORE SNOW. Lots of rains/freezing roads, wet ground and mud.
FARTHER SOUTH WITH "their" Global Vortex" BS too, you can count on it.

Me? Broke, no job.....but I feel confident.

Right now it's like I am purposely forcing myself to do without money.

I say I could fix a radio, prolly sell by weekend.
I think I have a following, great reputation with the Kenwoods. At least 2 are about done. Or could sell the one I'm running. That's what I've been doing. Fix 'em, rum 'em for a while, sell them off. This is the first i bought. Kinda sentimental.
Only one that worked 100 % out of 12 I've bought.
I think several people would be interested in my next one out the door.

But I do not desire to work on that right now.....

All the stuff I have rat holed away is constantly going up in value.
So, I'm in no hurry and bills are paid.

I've sold 1 arrow........
Gave away a half dozen to a young man that has a 'home made bow'.
I wanted to give him a bow next time I see him, but he hasn't been to market in 3 weeks or more. Darnit.

As long as I'm not hungry I'm fine.

Putting food away constantly. Honey this week.
2 quarts and a pint.
Love the flavor of just a thimble of honey and thimble of brown sugar in my coffee.
Drink WAY TOO MUCH!
Been eating my canned goods.
"Spagetti mix" Tomatoes, peppers, ground venison from 3 years ago that was put up with harvest from garden 2 years ago. Was frozen for 9 months or so.
Fried taters, noodles, goolosh or spagetti.
I'm eating good, just no comfort foods.
Getting stronger, back is doing much better!
I miss pizza, doughnuts, candy bars......

Soda and wiskey!

But these are the things I cut to drop 40 pounds I didn't know I had.
39" waist down to 36.
Biggest problem?
Running out of britches that fit worth a darn!!!

Good thing I've got bunches of clothes stashed.
Picked up an old, non-camo field jacket, old mil wool coat and a couple other pieces, not sure, and the tub for $2 at flea market.
Must be about 8 or more field jackets, box of liners, boxes of gloves......

I'm rambling. Keep playing squirrel!

Took my 1979 Darton SL-50 Magnum bow and a 5-10 year old PSE 70 pounder out today and took a bout 12 shots.

Time to kill something. Fill some more jars.

One of my GLP friends asked about best way to get camo and bio gear cheaper.

Here was my reply to her.

Bumped heads with local Police AGAIN TONIGHT for "wearing a holster" at a high school football game.......

Not a good time of year to look for camo.

Hunting season will cost more for new or used.

New will start marking down about end of November, as season winds down.

Sales will Suk this year so might be good deals new.

Flea Markets I get good heavy older jeans and camo for $1-$5 a pair.

I try to not pay more because I know they go real cheap sometimes.

Bought 14 pairs of women's jeans at yard sale last month for $10.....

No woman around right now but will be too many before long.....

I see this. Did you read Isaiah 3-4?

I have piles of clothes that are not for me!!! Boots, shoes, pants, shirts.....

I buy piles of stuff for $5.....out of season is the key.

T-shirts now, shorts......

Spring buy long sleeve sweat shits, warm clothes.

I get $80 insulated coveralls early Spring into summer for $5-$10.

I must have 4 pairs coveralls, camo.

I have 5 or 6 black 'Bib's' insulated. 2 pair I bought new, $60-$75....

Another pair given to me, couple more for $5.......

Don't spend more than you can afford for things you do not immediately need! Don't be like me!

(Well actually that would be a good thing!)

Have a great weekend!

Just got rousted at local High school football game for having leather holster......

After initial contact by sheriff, Lied and said they got a call....

No, one of his Deputies eyeballed me when I showed up. No gun, he thought he had me for a Felony......

Just left Dinner with Ray Hall, Author of the book "The Rise and Fall of Freedom in America"

Just started reading it. Just spoke to him on phone and explained my harassment.

I am going to file for "Sovereign".

Then they can be sued for this behavior.......

I did ask the Sheriff if I took training for concealed if he would approve if i pass that and background check.

He said he would not have aproblem with approving me.

I said it would eliminate our butting heads all the time for gatting calls over a holster.

Good thing I at least had the good sense to leave gun in truck.

Gun within 1/4 mile is Felony. He would have arrested me and I would be in jail had I forgot my side arm was on me or had been ignorant of law, or bold enough to try to carry open at high school foot ball game.....

I would go Bye Bye for a few years........

It's all bullshit. I'm working on a sailboat and diesel truck for Ray.

He can walk me through the process of filing the paperwork for sovereign. Basically lets the po po and politicians know the "I know they work for me"........I am not subject to their BS laws.

But then they can still shoot you and it's a moot point huh?

Michael

Does it never end? Exercising your rights is a royal pain in the ass. They are adamant that we are slaves and I'm fed up!

One of my few good freinds, Ray Hall has a nice old 25' sailboat.

Getting it out today and beginning work on it.

should have his diesel Iveco truck going this morning.

Tried to fire it 2 days ago after spending the day on the batteries and battery pan for 6 hours.
Batteries appeared to be shot even though they were new just 3 years ago.

I have several techniques to save them.
Battery pan was full of crud and rusty, bat hold downs unused.

Pan is clean, connectors and Batts now excellent condition.

Fully charged.
Was about out of fuel. Picking up more today making 10 gal of fresh and 1 quart of 'Sea Foam' added yesterday.

Problem with truck now is fuel cuttoff valve is not working. Truck was brought back to him 2 weeks ago. Valve has mechanical cable and electric, not hooked up.

will be wiring that today and installing new cable.

If needed I will disassemble solenoid and rebuild. Even re-wind coil if needed!. It will work eh I am done.

We spent after noon yesterday talking, napping and looking over sail boat. Went out for a nice meal last night. Got rousted by Police at foot ball game on my way home.
I wish Ray had been with me to document the harassment with a witness that will prolly end up n court with me over a lawsuit!

I likes the attention apparently......no charges.

Establishing solid pattern of their behavior for a huge lawsuit, not intentionally though!!!

Just THEIR nature.

Today is a work day, I'll be headed his way in just a bit.
Bow hunting Monday. Get a tag today.

Look over his Fn Fal .308 today. Gonna try to barter for a premium Amateur station. He won't fight, I wil.
I've got a bit of good Match .308 ammo......

I've had many, Rem police 700 heavy barrel,
CZ 750 etc.

I prefer Bolt guns.

300 Win Mag, Savage model 112 stainless with Choate stock, Gibbs Bipod, Bushnell Elite 6500, $1200 older Japanese glass, is my Baby. I studied Plaster's manual too, 3 times.

900 rounds put up for her.
700 of my pet match load, sealed and crimped.
200 Gr Sierra Match kings, HPBT.
Mostly once fired Winchester brass.

When does the party start?

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the weather this time of year.

Before the storm begins enjoy what good there is left in the world.

Your fellow American Patriot

With this winter expected to be as bad or worse than last years you'd be a fool to NOT prepare. Imagine if the grid went down during -12 temps.

It will.

First, THANK YOU, Michael for this thread andf your keen input on others...I found my way here thru our ongoing Ebola thread...

Second, I am so impressed by your prepped-ness. I *just* started to get serious recently and am upset I m so ill prepared. I hope we still have some time to get things in order yet...

Lastly - I am attempting to create a 'root cellar' in the back of my garage for winter...grow potatoes, keep things in good shape, etc.
I wanted to get some hay-bales to help with moisture and insulation, but my mom says all the ones available in the carson valley are used for feed & have bugs in them... Is there a way to eradicate bugs in hay bales or should I look online for a different supplier? Got any ideas?

I'm up here at 6000' in the sierras. low humidity, but winter could be a doozy this year and I want to have things set up so I can SIP for a while until time to bug out to higher country...
Meanwhile I am attempting to do all this as a single mom with an 11 & 12 yr old, limited income and literally no "muscle" to help!

I too have decided to start prepping my BODY for what's to come, I need to get stronger if I want to be the badass momma bear and keep my cubs alive. ;)

again, thanks for the info, input and support...it means a lot

I'm not Michael and he seems real clever with solutions, so he'll probably have better input, but would like to share mine.

If it were me, I'd use straw, not hay. Hay has food value. The food value draws bugs and mice. In baling, the hay dries in the sun and bugs have mostly abandoned it for fresher food. Have never had bugs in mine.

That said, I'd still use straw. Hay will collect moisture. In the best case, it can mold, causing nasty breathing conditions and make it no good for feed. In the worst case, it can spontaneously combust. Every few yrs. a farmer loses a barn from it for putting hay away and packing too tightly before it's totally dry. Farmers continually check hay to avoid that. Stick your hand in the middle of a bale and if it's warm, pull that bale because it's going to eventually catch fire.

Straw is SO much lighter than hay and with no muscle to help, it makes a big difference real fast. A bale of straw usually goes from 25-30 lbs. A bale of hay is usually at least 35/40 to 70/80 lbs. and up. It's a whole lot easier handling straw.

Last, if your garage attaches to your house, or if you park a car in it, I'd really rethink having hay or straw in it.

Thanks!

I was thinking pine needles could offer the same insulation?

Humidity/moisture really is not much of an issue here- high desert, we're usually @ 10%

Have a chimney but it's 100 yrs old. I'd need to line it to use it I'm sure.
What me worry?
