Does any of that even mean anything? It sounds like bullshit to me.

They do these everyday on 8992.00 and 11.175 USB.
They usually send from Andrews and Offutt AFB. I've been hearing them for at least 2 years. I wouldn't even try to decode.

You can go to radioreference forums and people post the messages they hear on those and other Utility frequencies.

I was thinking about all this though and did see one military jet fly over (I am about 15 miles north of Offutt). I didn't see anything else unusual.

I agree with the comments both in this thread and the data string thread...we'll never understand or know the code. But it would be interesting to continue to follow and see if the level of activity increases.

'Once upon a time'... I worked at the Pentagon. During the ramp-up to the first Iraq war they recalled a bunch of retired brass to work on special projects. There was this one General... major asshole. As arrogant as you can get. He was sourcing equipment from all over the world -- sleeping bags, tents, shovels... you name it. He had this 'red phone' installed and made everyone in the room stop what they were doing while he instructed them not to answer the phone unless they were authorized... if the phone rang, someone's life was in danger so we should be quiet.

A few days later, the phone rang... This guy was there so he answered it. A few seconds later, he angrily slammed it down and walked out.

I heard later that someone had called this 1800 number -- wanting to order a meatball sub. Apparently, this generals favorite food -- was a meatball sub... so he knew he had been had.

I wonder if we are not being had... Perhaps the military is broadcasting fake messages just to get us all wound up.

My guess is that they were doing a test of which stations could receive the message that they sent since Shortwave is peculiar as to which areas of the world it will hit at different times of the day.

IF it was a real reception test then they probably sent the message out on various frequencies (different bands) nearly simultaneously.

Of course I am just guessing ... but reception testing IS something that needs to be done on a regular basis, though if a nuclear weapon would go off it could so disrupt the ionosphere that long distance SW messages may not get through at all (and there is no way to test ahead of time for that potential difficulty).
