I first switched to being a vegetarian in 1992, after witnessing pigs all piled on top of one another at a factory farm. They had no room to move and all were moaning in pain.
Five years later, in 1997, I transitioned to veganism, upon learning how baby male chicks are ground up alive and Male calves are shot dead after birth, both because they are considered a waste product. I learned that a whole foods plant based diet is the best way to eat. The only thing you have to do is learn how to cook.
I'm coming up on 25 years vegan and 30 years no meat.
That is a long time before any government body was talking about it...even though medical research goes back to the 50s and 60s, showing the benefits of a plant based diet.
You lower your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity by eating only whole plant foods.

Most people (97% of Americans) dont eat enough fiber. Fiber is what keeps the intestines working efficiently and keeps the body healthy. Fiber only comes from plants.

In 2002, I looked up the stats for vegans, and it was estimated at 0.01%. Now it's estimated at 3%. (A huge increase in 19 years.) Vegetarians are estimated at 7%.
Together, we now make up 10% of the population, which is critical mass.
Reaching critical mass, along activists locking themselves into factory farms and mass production of plant based alternatives etc, has done more to spread awareness of the torture animals go through for a temporary taste sensation, than your previous UN.

There is absolutely no reason to treat animals like garbage. There us no health reason to eat them. And there are many ethical reasons not to eat them, or torture them in science experiments or lock them up in bathtubs when they used to swimming in the ocean.
