The way I'm reading your interpretation, it sounds like your take on Eyes Wide Shut is something like a combination of John Carpenter's "They Live" and "The Game" starring Michael Douglas?

Also, I haven't read you discussing any reptilian-type shapeshifting in Eyes Wide Shut such what's seen in the following video, any thoughts on that?

After all, if the Tom Cruise and Nichole Kidman characters are shapeshifting in the film wouldn't that negate your premise that they were outsiders that were being tested? Their shapeshifting in the film would have marked them as being insiders, do you agree?

Anyway OP, I've been a huge Kubrick fan all my life.

I believe that Kubrick intended Eyes Wide Shut to be the ultimate rorschach test conspiracy film. What I mean by that is that Kubrick intentionally incorporated every modern conspiracy (e.g Illuminati,Sex Magik cults, MK-Ultra sex slaves, Shape Shifting Aliens and goddesses) in such a way as to give every viewer the chance to see the true reality in proportion to how much their eyes are open to the real world as it were.

The reason he did this was because he too was unsure of what was real and what was a charade. Kubrick was a known conspiracy theory believer like us (he tried to adapt Umberto Eco Foucault's Pendulum book based on the pseudo illuminati organisations and was a subscriber to Lyndon LaRouche magazine) but he too had trouble sifting through the disinfo on the vast conspiracy material out there. His simple but elegant solution was to make a film that doesn't have the answer as to what the big true conspiracy is but more to help the viewer open their eyes to the reality that something out there is not right. Hopefully like Bill and Alice they are awake for a long time.

Saw the movie yesterday for the first time. All I could actively focus on was Nicole's ass.

What was the significance/esoteric meaning of the Nichole Kidman character sitting on the toilet and throwing a piece of toilet paper in the toilet in the beginning of the movie?

I just realized that I've watched hundreds of films in my life and I've never seen that. There had to be a reason for putting it in the film.

My first impression is that Kubrick using this as a subliminal to give people the impression that this movie is like shit and then that idea is reestablished with the last conversation in the film being cliched corny melodrama dialogue and the last word of the film being "fuck."

I'm currently examining film and I just realized that you'd never know this was an esoteric film until the phrase, "Where the rainbow ends" is uttered at about 11 minutes, 50 seconds in. Right when that sentence is spoken there's an obvious change of mood in Tom Cruise like he's rattled. It's like everything up to that point was following his life script (see transactional analysis) and the sentence startled him so much that it was woke him up. He was just unconsciously playing along until that sentence made him realize that was happening was something unusual that he had to pay attention to, it woke him up so to speak.

Outside of Nichole Kidman being nude to start the film and Nichole Kidman sitting on the toilet about a minute later, everything in the movie up to the sentence "Where the rainbow ends", is purely cornball, as cliche as you can get. BTW, I'm watching the unrated version, I don't know how much that matters.

Now, "Where the rainbow ends" is an obvious reference to the Wizard of Oz and immediately after that comment sentence is spoken, the entire tone of the movie changes and it gets weird and creepy immediately.

Right now I'm looking at this film as an adult re-telling of the Wizard of the Oz.
