My dog has thrown up and turned his nose up at his 4 health brand dog food kibble owned by tractor supply but processed by diamond foods. Thank God it's not the only thing I feed him so he is OK since I switched his kibble. He scarfs up the new stuff with no issues. Hmmmm.

It also doesn't help when commercial egg production gets too low when the farmers have to send the eggs off for pasteurization.

When production is low they will save up enough eggs to send off but at some point the eggs get too old to send, so they just trash or recycle them on the farm.

If the farmers don't get enough eggs they won't bother to send a half shipment off because of the pasteurization cost involved.

My ducks free ranged from hatching, supplemented with crumbles from Nutrena. I have a fenced area and pond and pen for night.
Late August they started foraging in my garage preferring the dog food, making a duck mess too close to the house. Impounded them to their enclosure. Haven't had an egg since and 3 two year old hens died. They've lost interest in foraging. I assumed they were laying eggs in the pond, until this week.

I know somewhere last fall I tried Dumour feed in addition to the Nutrena.
I'll be changing their feed, perhaps grinding my own. Maybe it's a reversible effect. Not sure I'll trust the eggs.

Counting on backyard poultry no longer seems to be quite as comforting from a preparedness standpoint.

I have a close relationship with the pigeons in this town and I have seen one with a syringe stuck in its back without the plunger. I am also seeing pigeons with identification bands on their legs. I have seen more than one with dilated pupils, giving the appearance of black eyes. Keep an eye out for this in your local wildlife.

Folks I suggest you find some of the old homesteading books and figure out how to feed your chickens naturally. Heck grub and maggot buckets are easy to make and work nine months out of the years in most regions of the country.

You can raise enough grubs to feed any size flock with a little common sense and fortitude. Think.

By the way, chickens will eat mice, worms, crickets. You name it. You can often trap enough mice on a nightly basis to feed chickens daily.

Chicken man here, FWIW. Wife and I run a bunch of chickens and have a reasonable amount of experience.

Your hens will stop laying (for the most part) when it gets cold / number of hours of sunlight decrease. Our hens aren’t laying much at all; maybe 2-3 eggs per week.

Here when it warms up and daylight is longer they’ll kick up again. It’s annual. Additionally, hens only lay well in their first three, maybe 4 years, but they’ll live longer than that. If you have older hens and they’re not laying much at all any longer this is why.

Do I put it passed TPTB to do something like fuck with the feed? No, not at all. Wouldn’t surprise me at all really.

Yes - you can provide extended lighting which will keep them laying. We don’t do this so I can’t give any advice here.

Goat feed should be just fine. If you’re switching from Layer, be sure to provide calcium like oyster shell. Don’t worry, only your hens will eat it. Roosters hate it and won’t touch it more than once (if you even run roosters). They’ll eat pretty much anything including table scraps - vegetables etc.

EGGS would be able to feed and provide nutrition to most people. Communities could survive on the nutrients from eggs and its a constant source of food that could be produced locally.

If the chickens food supply is a deliberate contamination its a good idea to look further as to why. It signals a greater plot unfolding.

I mean 2-3 eggs per week from the entire flock, over 25 birds. Not per hen.

We buy feed in bulk.

Our last purchase was at the beginning of last summer so we’ll definitely see here in three/four months.

say what you will.. my wives employer a large family owned operation.. egg and chicken producer were having problems as well and they use COOP feed.. basically their own friends and neighbors.. (point being not nwo evil types) They use corrugated clear fiberglass roofs for light.. They tried a few things and ended up correcting the problem by supplementing natural light with full spectrum led lighting. They figured some kind of sunlight issue..

In the northeast there is no egg shortage nor rise in prices. If you live in an area having some tough time with eggs tough shit. Enough crying about it. Ridiculous already. Is there nothing else to eat?

A forty to sixty hens with three to six roosters can lay enough eggs and a have broad enough genetic diversity to provide two primary sources of protein for around twenty five to fifty adults.

It's why people like Bill Gates hate chickens. You don't need a bunch of vaccines and bullshit to raise them. Although, vaccinated against Coccidea and Marerk's isn't a bad idea has been fifty plus years. They can be raised naturally and healthy with careful tending to their coops and water supply.

If our rural societies were undercut because of war, they could bounce back because of chickens. They could reproduce quick and feed many people daily. Heck we could raise millions of crickets to feed them. Chickens and their eggs could be a solution to any attack on the food supply chain. Which makes me think there is a lot more to this story.

But who would be willing to make the Ultimate Sacrifice in order to do that?
