Same here- and I live in Alaska with even shorter daylight hours…

Oats, barley, sunflower, cracked corn, oyster shell, fish meal- I also soak their feed in a little raw milk, and occasionally toss in a little bit of bear fat flakes-

Lol I also did a caribou carcass last fall-

18-24 eggs daily; 32 hens-

I’ll ask where my neighbors get their commercial layer pellets, though- it might be ok and commercially made up here,not barged in

Egg laying never ceases in the winter. They moult in early winter and once done, they start laying again IN WINTER. Production does slow down, but it doesn’t cease. Been raising chickens for decades.

Find a different way to spell them. Maybe backwards. Or with spaces or up and down. There are ways.

Our eggs in NC are at least 40¢ an egg. That is high when they use to be around 10¢. Sometimes less.

Give them cooked chicken. It has taurine in it which cats need.

Always give them kitchen scraps. Keep a container and just scrape the food into it. None goes into the trash.

We used TFS feed for a short bit and noticed a big drop in our numbers, switched back to our local feed and numbers are back to normal. We have great layers who produce big numbers year round, they don’t slow down for winter. Happy chickens produce great eggs.

I haven't noticed this at all. I'm still feeding my chickens tractor supply chicken feed, and they're still laying eggs like crazy.

Just a report from B.C., Canada. My hens are laying regularly and our feed source is local to the province.

But it did occur to me years ago that one day, I might have to grow my own feed one day due to economic collapse, concerns of contamination, etc.

Sure they do! And once a week we have Greek joghurt, the cat, the humans and the chickens! They love that,too
Oh, and some apple vinegar in their water (or chamomile tea if it's cold outside). I tend to think they're living their best life here :)

We have 19 chickens. We have had through some of the coldest winters and still would get 6-9 eggs a day. Now we get 0-1 eggs a day. There is something to this story.

Egg prices have never doubled or tripled in price every winter, this is new. I grew up on a self sufficient farm with lots of chickens, it slowed down but they did not stop laying eggs

There is an asymmetrical war going on against the white countries, they are destroying everything we need to survive, long before the actual invasion comes with armed troops

I have two hens,and yes they do stop laying for a week or two but they completely stopped for over a month this year. I went cheep and bought some egg layer feed a bit ago. Got it from tractor supply. I just thought they weren’t laying because it got really cold around Christmas,we live in Memphis so it was not normal. Well,I’m at the bottom of the food now and they are getting the “hippy food” my wife calls it that I usually buy.They are laying again now. I’m not saying it’s the food but just seems a bit weird to me. I guess I’m going to toss the eggs just to be safe. And go back to the non GMO feed I had been feeding them.

Those 150 million chickens they culled won't be laying any more eggs. That's for sure.

Would an LED light work for the chickens?
Im thinking a small solar panel and battery system running a few LED lights kinda thing off grid.

Fyi our experience in northern Ontario last year we switched chicken feed to pellets from a different supplier as our wild free range chickens and even the wild pheasants, grouse wouldn’t eat it.

We found out that a lot of other farmers and homesteaders in the area experience exactly the same thing.
So the local co-op here lost feed business.

My ladies lay eggs all year, only slow down with age or molting. We do provide heat n light, table scraps and tons of cooked squash throughout the winter.
So icks-nay to those that say it’s normal for them to stop laying eggs.

Follow the money and who benefits the most ... probably the same guy that just happens to invest in future endeavours that magically come perfectly true for him.

Read someplace else that Lysine had been removed and it's a necessary nutrient.

All of tractor supply store brand feeds are produced Purina. They also sell Nutrena feeds. Both Purina and Nutrena are owned by Cargill. Cargill is the largest private owned company in the world. Blackrock has zero say in what they do as they are not publicly traded. Blackrock most likely ownes a large stake in Tractor supply stock as they do with virtually every major publicly traded company. Has anyone tested any of theses feeds? Or is it just bullshit?

I heard it was dumor and producers pride.

Anyway, Doug called Tractor Supply out on that. Stacy just gave information of giving their chickens fermented grains, and that the chickens eat less of their usual feed, which is made by Stacy. Saves money for far healthier feed.

Been raising chickens for years... Local supply had problems getting feed went to TSC Dumor Feed... Chickens Stopped Laying Completely For 3 Months... Back To Local Supply Everything Is Normal Again...

Chickens in grain bin. Rarely is door open when it's below zero. Rarely is it above zero. Only small heater and two red lamps. Maybe red lamps are artificial sun? Dunno. They on all the time. Chickens lay almost one egg per day per chicken. One egg every thirty hours maybe. But that's just my chickens. They love us and we love them so they keep on laying. Feeding corn and scraps and.. bagged feed from CHS along with oyster shells. And their egg shells.

But I know others that get little to no eggs in the winter. But they don't provide heat... Hmm it's cold here . North Dakota winters can be rough for outside animals.
