3hrs per day practice

1hr warming up and learning other people's riffs and songs
1hr playing lead
1hr writing original material (most important)

the rest of the day <listening> to everything. All music, all genres. Open the mind

Re: My son and his guitar
Very impressive.

Some people have a natural ability to play an instrument.

I saw Johnny Lang when he was 17. He opened for Sting. Kid got a standing ovation and my friends and I actually liked the opening act better than Sting (who was incredible, as always).

Johnny Lang picked up the guitar at 13, IIRC.

Looking forward to more videos from your son.

Thanks

He has written some songs.
I think he focuses on technique and simply enjoying the guitar.

Re: My son and his guitar
Your son sounds really good but as someone that's played for almost 40 years, I have to say that I'm very skeptical about the "got a gitar 2 years ago" comment. I'd be very interested to know how your son went from not playing to playing like this in two years. Eric Johnson's string skipping technique is extremely advanced and typically takes years and years of practice to learn how to pull off correctly.

Well thank YouTube. He can hit all the notes. Now teach him "feel , soul"
He could have a great future ahead of him. Sounds 👍

That was friggin great. I love that song and your son did it some awesome justice!

What are those black knobs for at the top of neck ? Tension?

Locking nuts for a Floyd Rose tremolo. Locks the strings on the neck and any fine tuning is done at the bridge.

Re: My son and his guitar
Give him lots of room, great sound. Clean cut looking kid, presents himself as disciplined. Mine started out with a trumpet that led to multiple instruments and a degree in audio engineering.
When we were at odds, he would go upstairs and crank out some Pink Floyd on guitar to Chill the old man out.. and it worked!

Don't be surprised if his taste in music changes as time passes, it can happen.

The best thing my Dad ever bought me was a Les Paul. I ended up in a band that played out and made some records and had a following. I would not trade that experience for anything. You are a good Dad, I know a lot of people complain about the noise but my parents always encouraged me even when band practice was in the garage.

You should be proud and encourage him .

There are some really ahole comments on here I can’t see why .

He is a natural I bet he plays 3-5 hours every single day doesn’t he .
