Re: My son and his guitar
Your son sounds really good but as someone that's played for almost 40 years, I have to say that I'm very skeptical about the "got a gitar 2 years ago" comment. I'd be very interested to know how your son went from not playing to playing like this in two years. Eric Johnson's string skipping technique is extremely advanced and typically takes years and years of practice to learn how to pull off correctly.

Maybe he was using another guitar and 2 years ago finally got his first one or the one he really wanted. Either way at this point it really doesn't matter as he seems to play really well and does a very good job.

Id rather have a son who knows how to play an instrument rather than a gamer who eat hot pockets and plays video games all day long in the basement

Another perspective... Is it impossible to aquire that skill in 2 years?

It's possible. I learned a lot in my first few years. Maybe his real talent is dedication, persistence and is able to learn quickly. A young man, no kids, more free time. Maybe he had a prior talent that allowed him to skip ahead. Maybe playing a keyboard or was the kid in school always desk drumming.

He probably doesn’t know string skipping is a thing. I didn’t know it was a thing until you brought it up. I just play the notes. Actually, I think it takes years and years for people who learn guitar from teachers, learning traditional scales and cords. Self taught people don’t worry about that they just play the notes and riffs.

Good stuff. I have 2-sons that play different instruments, but the guitars are their favorite go-to. Just turned over 2-primo classical guitars to them at Christmas. It's their turn to take up the slack where I left off.

The internet generation man. There's tons of kids these days that went from Guitar Hero to Rocksmith to playing some serious licks. I bought my son Rocksmith and a decent guitar on his 16th and 2 years later he was shredding with the best of them.

Re: My son and his guitar
I'm not a big guitar fan or anything like that. But, I could listen to your kid play all day. That was incredible to my ears. My son is 4, I hope he is ends up as accomplished. Could care less if my kid plays guitar, but if he can succeed at anything the way your kid has at the guitar I would be thrilled. That was literally heavenly to me. Wonderful. 5 stars!
