Culturally outdated by choice User ID: 69103879 United States 10/12/2021 12:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not a farmer by vocation, but have spent many days over the years picking up extra money by running combines, planting rigs, hauling grain to the elevators, and doing fall field work. Quoting: last one One thing I have learned is that for the last 2 decades, every piece of machinery involved in the planting, harvesting, transportation process are highly dependent on availability of repair parts, electronics(circuit boards), lubricants, tires, etc. And, in order for planting and harvesting to be done at the right times, these things need to be at or very near your fingertips. Or, the whole dance of crop production goes to shit = no food. I know that an underlying issue with this impending strike are the Covid mandates, even if it doesn't make the news. Let's just say my uncle works for Deere. And, the same issue is set to arise at most, if not all, of the other manufacturers of modern farm equipment. Shortages of truckers, store employees, etc. pale in comparison to what will happen if we can't keep the machinery in the fields that produce it all. We've never been happier that our tractors pre-date computers - and even then parts aren't growing amongst the tomato plants. More deplorable all the time. |

Quoting: last one We take the actual production of food crops for granted, but something not many think about...the actual machinery, and the parts needed to repair and maintain the complex planting and harvesting machinery. The country has been seeing a lack of repair parts and electronics for these awesome machines for over a year, and now, the machinery itself may be in jeopardy. Which = less crops, less livestock feed, less of everything foodwise. [link to www.labornotes.org (secure)] Question... Why not retrofit parts using a 3D printer? 🤔 |

When this shifts, it will be in one day and then it’s goes nuts. Panic will strip the shelves in only a few hours. Then they start robbing people in the parking lot. Entire evolution of this will be in under 72 hours from the last truck delivery. Most people have no idea what hunger does to psychology. Tractor parts are only one of the problems we face. There are several. |
