I have a vintage Farberware Percolator that I use every single day. It's awesome, strong, super hot and really fast and all stainless steel and easy to clean.

I will not drink coffee from a drip pot ever. Those coffee makers have plastic hoses in them and plastic bins for the water and all of that does grow mold and drip coffee tastes like warm weak crap to me.

I can see many here are gonna be up a creek if SHTF lasts longer than their coffee stash.
 Quoting: Swamprat

Dude! I got massive amounts of coffee in stash. I could get by for at least 3 months without buying any. To add to the post, I use a Bunn coffee maker. Made in the USA! I'll brew it then pour about 1/2 the pot into a large cup then pour that back over the grounds. It's fucking delicious. All the oils of the coffee really come through.

Also, I use a screen basket and not filters. White filters have dioxin in them. I drink my coffee black and strong! French roast or bold coffee is usually all I get, but I do have beans from all over the world in stock. Central America, Africa, Indonesia, Hawaii, Jamaica, etc. I never drink the same coffee twice in a row.
 Quoting: Sal Monella

You'll last six months tops.

Good start newbie.

Re: Tell us about your coffee setup
Yep, that's amazing when SHTF and pressing the button doesn't work.

Is this post about those who can provide coffee when SHTF or noobs who want to talk shit about their soon to be useless coffee machines?

SHTF and electric goes out, I'll have your $5 per cup heated and ready for you. They'll have a dead machine.
 Quoting: P's & Q's

There are plenty of decent hand grinders to grind and easy to french press/cup coffee as long as there is a heat source. Or you could cold brew or drip without heat.

Heck, I'm sure I could hook up my espresso machine to a car battery if I really wanted one before killing zombies.

Re: Tell us about your coffee setup
My wife and I splurged eight or so years ago and bought a Breville Oracle espresso machine. It is the world's only automatic manual espresso machine and does a good job. It has a bean hopper and grinder that drops the ground beans directly into the porta filter. And then it tamps the porta filter. That's the automatic part but the grind and tamping can be manually adjusted to dial in the proper porta filter which is important to a good espresso. And the steamer wand works good, as well. It is designed so you don't have to move the steamer cup of milk around to get the proper foam texture and amount. You just put it in the steamer cup and hit the lever.

The real benefit to it is that you can knock out a real cappuccino in about a minute. It also saves lots of money over stopping by a coffee shop every morning. The thing has paid for itself several times over at least.

Coffee is pretty shit compared to tea - so I keep a jar of cheap granules and some coffee whitener for the occasional cup and weirdo guests who actually prefer it.

If you only can boil water in a power outage, you can put the grounds into a drawstring tea bag and steep the coffee just like you would tea.

[link to www.amazon.com (secure)]

Or use a Melita funnel with a Cone filter.

I use a microfine tea infuser to brew coffee inside my big travel cup when I'm on the road. All I have to do is dump boiling water over it, dunk it around, and pull it out when it's done; the coffee gets brewed right in the cup. It's a lot neater than the cone setup I was using, and takes up less room.

Re: Tell us about your coffee setup
Its got a little basket you put ground coffee. You fill up the chamber with water. It heats the water and drips the hot water over the grounds releasing their caffeine and flavors.
Im a simpleton when it comes to coffee, like quantity over quality, so rather have 3 weaker cups then 1 strong cup.

We have a french press I used to use alot but it makes the coffee too strong. Used it occasionally if Im in a super good mood or something and wanna stay awake and watch a movie or something.

Also have a kurig but don't use it much, too expensive. Rather just use my old drip machine. I used to love to get caffinated up and play my old computer games. I just cant sit in one spot for 4 hours a day anymore...good times.

Kuerig k cup green mountain breakfast blend is my go too. I also have Nespresso maker for when I want a treat.

Nespresso will surprise you if you never had it. I also reuse the pods with fresh grind of choice on occasion by using press and seal on top. Works great.

Before Nespresso I used French press for treat. Nespresso is way way better than even French press. I prefer the light coffee.

Heh. Almost got fired over a coffee joke.

I was hung over and making my first cup and sissying it up like I like it. A noisy female co-worker chimed in "You like your coffee like you like your women, light and sweet?"

I looked at her and mumbled, "No... Ground up and in the freezer."

That goofy smile fuckin' ran from her face and she started nervously eyeing the door.

Home roaster here.

GeneCafe roaster.

Green beans, usually from Guatemala, Columbia, Ethiopia or some island coffees. Gesha is the best, hands down. Sweet Marias is one of the best sources.

Drip pour over, once ground.

I roast about once per week and the quality can't be compared.

Vintage stainless steel (no aluminum or plastic for my coffee) Sunbeam coffee pot; coffee that's too expensive for its taste. The man bought a cheap Keurig-style to try it out. It's more expensive and tastes worse. The cappuccino cups were like mainlining sugar - yuck.

The time we bought 40 pounds green beans and toasted them ourselves in an old popcorn popper outfitted with a can, was the best coffee, and least expensive.

I have one of these too. Capresso 498.05 MT900 Rapid Brew Coffee Maker.

[link to www.amazon.com (secure)]

It sounds like a freaking jet when it makes coffee. And it brews strong, which is perfect for me.

Unfortunately, I broke the valve inside the water reservoir when trying to clean it. I have to order a new reservoir. But it's extremely reliable.

Not to mention, this thing keeps a full pot of coffee hot for 24+ hours!

But for whatever reason, none of my guests understand how to pour coffee out of the carafe. I need to use some whiteout or something to put instructions on it.

I have both a Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista, and a Ninja Hot and Cold brewing system I just bought. I think I'm going to retire the Mr. Coffee. The ninja easily makes a 32oz latte. I replicated Arizona green tea with it. It makes a good regular pot of coffee, too.
 Quoting: BoatyMcBoatface

Is the Ninja Hot good? I used to have a cappuccino maker, but it was a pain in the ass to use.

My husband and I are looking for a good coffee/latte/cappuccino maker.
