This will make the news soon. Thousands of companies affected.

I have inside information that this is way bigger than is being reported.

Wait...so using TPM chips and secure boot didn't help? Yes, yes, I realize I'm being a smartass but I couldn't resist. I think it's about time people realize that the only safe data is offline data and data stored in closed networks not accesible from the outside. What does that mean for our world? The fun stuff is online, everything has to be done in person and with paper like it's 1955. I know, nobody will listen and we'll continue this mad rush forward into our techno dystopian nightmare of a futre complete with a total loss of individual rights and freedom in the name of security. Place your finger on the scanner...now your eyeball...now your asshole...ok so all we need is your ballsack imprint a dna test and a blood sample and you can access your bank account.

After all, that's the world we've been inching towards since 9/11 anyway right? Why stop now when billionaries, crooked politicians and criminals are having so much fun!

Windows is such a pile of crap. All of the affected computers were using Windows. The attack targeted a dll file used by Windows Defender, which side loaded the malware onto servers through a Kaseya update. Then the dominos all fell.

Kaseya is saying only 40 of their customers are affected. Which I believe to be a giant lie. They shut down their SaaS servers, which were probably all affected as well as every on-premise customer of theirs, which each manages hundreds of servers/pcs on average.

This is a disaster.

OP is 100% correct!

It's coming folks.

If you are running the latest upgrade of windows 10 or even the early release of windows 11 you're fine. But you too might be locked down very soon.

This is going to be a fun ride.
 Quoting: First Born Son

'Just awakened, typing here before a morning coffee, so please pardon my grammar and spelling.

Ironically even old computers can run the latest version of Windows 10.

As this thread continued yesterday I was loading the latest current ISO of Windows 10, 21H1, on a PC twelve years old with BIOS dated 2008.

I had gone to my upstairs office earlier in the week for a network cable and wound up coming back downstairs to the den with a housing, power supply, system board, 8GB of RAM, a WiFi NIC as backup in case my wired switch fails, two 2TB and one 500GB HDDs and a video card to connect it to a smaller PC screen and the huge 4K UHD TV in the den.

This thread was my motivation to assemble that hardware into a PC to hold an offline copy of 3TB of storage we've duplicated in Microsoft and Google's clouds, here at home.

This thread has proven one can never be too protected or have too many copies of their files.

As a side note, there were more than forty different versions of Windows 10 ISO images available for download from Microsoft as I found one to download and generate a key for, which made me further realize that IT staff has at least 39 chances to install the wrong version and build of Windows 10 for their environment.

May all in the US have a grand July 4th weekend and the International posters... why not cook something awesome this weekend, on a charcoal grill that has no fear of smoking up the neighborhood with your delicious cooking!

Who am I kidding? Coffee? It's a holiday weekend and I gave myself off until Thursday, I'm going to pour a beer and probably make beef nachos for breakfast!

My glass is raised to you all, the good members and guests of GLP.

We keep hearing about the power of corporations yet they can't hire real computer people or find these hackers and execute them?

I assume this is a false flag for some law.

From that link:
"Some companies have already begun receiving ransom demands, ranging anywhere from $50,000 to $5 million, depending on the company’s size."

Forgive me for being so clueless, but I had no idea that "ransomware" was for literal ransom. How do they get away with that?
 Quoting: 88

The answer to those questions is IT mismanagement and technical incompetence. I have removed three instances of ransomware hostaging of data on three different gov networks. It took all of twenty minutes with not a penny paid.

But... you can't shut the barn door after the horse has escaped. You need to have already implemented means of immediate recovery if someone at a PC screws up by viewing the wrong website or opening the wrong email, which is how all three networks were infected to begin with.

I had previously implemented years before.

Windows is such a pile of crap. All of the affected computers were using Windows. The attack targeted a dll file used by Windows Defender, which side loaded the malware onto servers through a Kaseya update. Then the dominos all fell.

I wonder now if something like this is what happened @ my work about 3 mos. ago.

Not much was said about it and no real explanation, we just came in one morning and no one had email or various other things. They basically just told us they were working on it.

It was down like that for about 3 days. Healthcare setting.

This is huge. MSPs are the computer support for small and medium businesses. Dentists offices, restaurants, any company not large enough or too lazy/cheap to pay an entire IT support staff. Kaseya makes the remote control software agent that MSPs install on all client machines and servers. This could easily affect a tens of thousands of businesses. Kaseya and Labtech are the big players.

So they hijacked their update distribution system and sent their malware down to each customer.
A lot of these attacks lately.
