That car also had good hp and decent gas mileage. I wouldn't buy any Nissan now though. They went to shit. Many many cars in between, most of them GM, but they usually didn't quite measure up for one reason or another. I can't count how many alternators I replaced. |

Went on a road trip and one of my trippers forgot to check the oil in eastern NM. Thing blew a rod around Shreveport and that resulted in a icky bus trip back home. User ID: 77086501 United States 02/10/2021 04:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 84 Mercedes Stick Shift Diesel Diesels that are automatics have NO pick up, like you can floor it and get nowhere. The stick takes care of that. The car was an absolute tank, I had it until it turned 499,999k. My ex, who went crazy and died, took it and got it impounded. I didn't know where he was or the car was for two months. By the time I found it it was like 3000 to get it out. I was so pissed. It would still be running. People, especially Arab guys tried to buy it off of me all the time. They said it looked like a Moroccan taxi cab. Second favorite was a Mercedes diesel wagon. It was an automatic, but awesome. Sunroof, everything worked. I think it was an 85. It could get from VA to New Orleans on one tank. It liked to go about 80. Purred like a kitten. I have my eye on a mint condition 8o something red Mercedes wagon that a friend's family isn't using. Gorgeous. The thing about the OLD Mercedes is the parts are cheap, all the same for most of the 80s. You just need an old school mechanic. They are very easy to work on. It all makes sense. I hate new cars that aren't user serviceable. I could look under the hood of my car and find the problems myself. And I am a girl. Nice features like great jacks, and little holes by the wheels that the jack slips into... I had to change a tire myself on the side of a mountain in Chatanooga once, soft shoulder, interstate, got it done in less than five minutes and I had never done it before. Smart cars, well engineered. I could go on and on. Even if I won the lottery that would be my choice. The old ones are like tanks. I bought one for my children and my son was f-ing around and overcorrected speeding on a country road in a rough turn, hit an oak tree, and didn't have a scratch on him. The engine was in the car... he had bruises from the seatbelt, that was it. Unpaid sincere endorsement. nameruse username nearmuse |

I went to buy a good used one a couple of years ago because I live in the mountains and haul gardening supplies and we have to haul our garbage to the dumpsters. Well, I'm serious when I say the good newer used ones were as expensive as the year-end closeouts of new ones. So, I ended up buying a new one. Love it. Not thrilled with the tires - not the best on ice - and it is a little light in the rear-end for driving on ice, but since we don't get much of that in GA it's not a big deal. |

Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes Just wondering what people think about their car purchases over the years. We need AWD or 4wd and prefer a SUV or something with a little carrying capacity. Subaru Baja? I dunno. So, for my part, I've had one year in which I owned 6 disposable cars. I wouldn't recommend any of those. It was not a good year. But my first car was in a 1972 Gremlin straight six three speed manual. I bought it in '86 and drove it for 3 years with duct tape holding the quarter panels together. And it was awesome until...It wasn't. Lol. It literally died in the parking lot of the bank when I was going for a loan on a different used car. Then the current Mazda Tribute '02. 6 cylinder again, just been an awesome car. Now computer is glitching and seems like it just keeps getting weekly issues. But it still never left me in the lurch. It's just getting kinda worn out now.My husband thinks the problem is the battery cable. Wth? I don't think so. But we can agree to disagree! So just looking for experiences. And the ageism is just because I'm old now! lol. If you stay alive, it happens. 1974 Opal Station Wagon! Bought it used and drove for 8 years. Was My daily and used it also for off roadimg. Only thing was something would break when someone else drove it. Sold it to a guy I know and he still owes me 90 bucks. He is dead now. .. |
