My heritage is primarily German. In the mid- 1700's a German Princess "Catherine" married a Russian Czar. Under the Queen's reign, many Christian German's who were engaged in the skilled trades or farming, accepted the Queen's invitation to emigrate to Russia, where they were given land, religious freedom, and the promise that they would never have to fight in Russia's military. Things went along quite well until the per-Bolshevik uprising started about 1900. Most of my family left Russia around 1905-1907, and legally immigrated to the United States. But my family still has a letter written by my Grandmother's aunt, who had stayed in Russia. The letter describes an event occurring in about 1908 when parents living in a German village heard rumors of a convoy of trucks headed their way. The parents gathered their children together, including my Grandmother's Aunt, gave them blankets and food and instructed the children to run to nearby forested land and stay there until the parents came and got them. Over the course of the next three days, the children observed their parents being forced at gunpoint by the Bolsheviks to dig a long and deep trench. When the trench was completed, the children watched in horror as their parents were lined up and shot dead into the trench. Every adult in the village was killed. The soldiers searched for the children but never found them. That is what what my "White Privileged" family endured. Who do I see about MY reparations?
