This may seem like a vague question. Let me give you an example. If someone falls out of a window, or falls down the stairs, or any other sort of accident, it may well be tragic on the one hand. On the other hand, there will be a reason for it on a completely different level. The person falling down the stairs is somehow "unbalanced". The person falling out of the window is being forced to realize that there is something they should "end". The person who suddenly loses their hearing is invited to consider What they do not want to hear, or who they do not want to listen to .... thus our spiritual growth is furthered through the accident, which makes us stop in our tracks and reconsider ...

The following question may throw up just how difficult it is to meet anyone with a "clean slate", indicating perhaps that there is much that "colours" our views and our perceptions of others, and which stems purely from our own experiences. This is what often hinders relationships - that we are "projecting" our own experiences from the past onto the present.

Fear of extra responsibility is another issue - if we engage fully with someone, then we will naturally be caring for that person, and we will want to show our compassion. However, if this person simply receives help, without appreciation, then this can also turn into manipulation. So it is sometimes a balancing act. With children it is yet another situation. Helping too much and too long can prevent them developing independence.

Many of us are "deactivated" or dumbed down or distracted from our life's purpose. This is how the "powers that be" (but not much longer) would have it - a global population of complacent and malleable beings with no will of their own, concentrating on everyday materialistic issues. There are whole books on this, but personal experience is what really brings this home. One example comes to mind: if we are sick (i.e. regurgitate) on a physical level, then we are invited to think about what event / experience we have not been able to digest. Another example: if we are driving and get lost or caught in some dead end, then it is time to consider which part of ourselves we have "lost" or which part of our lives is at a "dead end".

If we want to get a firm grip on present "reality", as well as correctly assess THE NOW, with all it opportunities or dangers, then it is essential that our viel is not colored by past experiences, thus "disfiguring" our view. On of these which comes to mind is the view of Putin as a demon in the Cold War. The media was extremely powerful then, and still is ....
