How can His plan be merciful or just if it requires every accountable individual to be baptized when billions of people have died without the opportunity to hear the gospel and choose baptism? The Apostle Peter described the provisions God has made: “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just [meaning Jesus Christ] for the unjust [meaning you and me], that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Pet. 3:18). This Christ did in order to bring the gift of eternal life to all. The Apostle Peter continued, “By which also he [Jesus Christ] went and preached unto the spirits in prison” (1 Pet. 3:19). Who were these people in the spirit world? They were both righteous and unrighteous people who had died. Some had been disobedient and rejected the gospel in the days of Noah Why was the gospel preached in the spirit world? So that the dead might repent and live according to the will of God ... wondered how the Savior could have preached to all the people in the spirit world in the short time between His death and Resurrection. But President Smith perceived that “unto the wicked he did not go, and among the ungodly and the unrepentant … , his voice was not raised. … “But behold, from among the righteous, he organized his forces and appointed messengers … [to] proclaim liberty to the captives who were bound, even unto all who would repent of their sins and receive the gospel. “Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died in their sins, without a knowledge of the truth, or in transgression, having rejected the prophets” ... Baptism for the dead was practiced among the Saints in the days of Peter and Paul. In teaching the Corinthians about Jesus Christ and the Resurrection of the dead, the Apostle Paul asked, “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?” (1 Cor. 15:29). Quoting: 3643297 We said it every Sunday .He was crucified, died and was buried, he descended into Hell, On the third day he arose again...etc And the entire apostles creed has varying levels of garbage in it. And I knew that before I ever started elementary school. Wow! You were really smart when you were 5 years old. You must be a rocket scientist by now. Rocket science is not my role right now.. I am however quite smart enough. Some of us are born knowing the church stuff is BS when it comes to God and the cosmos. My early experience was with my grandmother in the Episcopal Church.. and that creed was recited every Sunday.. as it is in some other and some use on only on communion days or whatever. I cannot recite the apostles creed to this day and in one of my threads here I shall shred it. I have shredded it piece by piece here and there. It is the most corrupt portion of any church service .. not matter which church uses it. |

He was a Vietnam vet and all around good man. Quoting: SaltyFlats During his funeral the pastor (I really don't know the domination) said Jesus died and went to hell for 3 days before being resurrected into Heaven. I've never heard of such a thing. Ever... The rest of the service was pretty normal, lords prayer etc. That just hasn't set well with me since. Anyone shed some light on this? Location if that matters: East Texas. Sun, after going down the winter, reaches its lower point in the northern hemisphere and keeps it for 3 days, than starts going up. Thats your Jesus reincarnation myth. |

Makes sense that Jesus would visit the unbeliever side to preach the gospel message to the unbelievers so that they could be saved. All legit OP. |

It's just like the heresy that God who the scriptures define as "love" would torture for ever those who don't accept Him. Nope, can be read into certain passages in the Bible, but when comparing scripture with scripture it becomes clear that's not what's being said. Organized religion has been the biggest enemy of truth, and the apostle's peter and paul even warned that his would happen in their epistles contained in the Bible. In hebrew it was sheol & gehenna. gehenna the place for the dead,(aka the grave the dirt) and sheol a place outside jerusalem where they burned rubbish. In new testament it was "Hades" (aka death, the dirt, the grave) The Church put the word "Hell" into the bible. |

She’ol (/ˈʃiːoʊl/ SHEE-ohl, /-əl/; Hebrew שְׁאוֹל Šəʾōl), in the Hebrew Bible, is a place of darkness to which all the dead go, both the righteous and the unrighteous, regardless of the moral choices made in life, a place of stillness and darkness cut off from life and from God.[1] The inhabitants of Sheol are the "shades" (rephaim), entities without personality or strength.[2] Under some circumstances they are thought to be able to be contacted by the living, as the Witch of Endor contacts the shade of Samuel for Saul, but such practices are forbidden (Deuteronomy 18:10).[3] While the Hebrew Bible describes Sheol as the permanent place of the dead, in the Second Temple period (roughly 500 BC – 70 AD) a more diverse set of ideas developed. In some texts, Sheol is considered to be the home of both the righteous and the wicked, separated into respective compartments; in others, it was considered a place of punishment, meant for the wicked dead alone,[4] and is equated with Gehenna in the Talmud.[5] When the Hebrew scriptures were translated into Greek in ancient Alexandria around 200 BC, the word "Hades" (the Greek underworld) was substituted for Sheol. This is reflected in the New Testament where Hades is both the underworld of the dead and the personification of it.[4] [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |
