Re: Project: Bitcoin -- Status: Bitcoin; NEM; Nexus; Safe Exchange; Stratis; Status; Syscoin
You need to be aware that there are problems on the BTC horizon.
The system only handles some 7 transactions per second, which is way to little.
The way to make it work, is to raise the transaction costs constantly to a level where people simply refrain from doing transactions.

There are improvements on the way, but according to the design of BTC, 95% of the network needs to agree on an improvement for it to take hold.
This has proven to be impossible on BTC and there is a stalemate since 2 years.

Without this improvement, the fees are exploding with 1200% per year.
We can possibly see $10 transaction-fees within a year.

Last news couple of days ago, is that they will try to do a coup and change BTC even without the 95% support.
This will require a hard fork, and we could possibly end up with two parallel bitcoin networks.

BTC might overcome these problems, but there are other coins that already are way passed these issues.
Also, BTC uses electricity for several millions of dollars each day, just to crunch numbers, which is not really necessary.
There are other chains that do not require this enormous amount of electricity.

Because of this, BTC has gone from being 85% of the cryptocurrency space to 50% in a couple of months.

That is very interesting. I will definitely investigate that further. Thanks for the tip.

Yesterday I bumped into this video on some of what you touched upon.

 Quoting: Psych

I guess this chart will make it even more clear.
This is the historical transaction fee chart.

The guy in the video recommends PIVX towards the end of the video. He says its a forked version of DASH and very inexpensive relatively.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72857927

PIVX has double ln the last two days.

OP, the standard models you present are totally irrelevant to the problem at hand.

Wish you good luck!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74665956

I am investing the problems as well.

This video outlined it pretty well, I think.

Thanks for posting, you exploring ethereum as well?
 Quoting: Truthserum

Yes, I will definitely diversify, and will most likely buy Ethereum as well. I am just wrapping my mind around Bitcoin first.

Thank you Psych

I`m a total knob and wanting to look into doing this ,I have some money sitting in a bank account and basically earning nothing, and just helping out the bank...

I will try to digest your information and see how fits into my situation.

Once again thank you

Re: Project: Bitcoin -- Status: Bitcoin; NEM; Nexus; Safe Exchange; Stratis; Status; Syscoin
Just keep buying btc except at the peaks... for altcoins

ethereum - huge potential
ripple - be wary of the premine
zcash - huge potential, already costly uses zk based anon
dash - already costly, and it isn't anonymous, doing coinjoin with 1 other user is easy to "decode"

Risky bets but huge potential

Any of the ethereum tokens
Ltc - touch call, no real tech outside of the segwit but LTC didn't even need it as blocks aren't full
Monero - long time player, could be flat or huge
Steem - solid, already pricey though
Eclipse - on c-cex, true anon, and cheap (zk based) but limited info on dev
Komodo - Tech isn't clear, dev has multiple un-finished projects but if he finish's huge returns here
blocknet - tech is clear and has actual working p2p atomic cross chain asset swaps, dev has 2nd project (XC), both huge potential if the dev delivers
Verge - If it rebounds huge play here.

good luck, its all a gamble
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74661034

Thanks! I will add those to the list to review.

If I were you I would not do that.
I would invest 50% in bitcoin and the other 50% would diversify into others crytocurrency.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74972170

I will diversify, but I am focusing on Bitcoin first.

Can someone please explain this to me?
- You're buying non cash crypto currency to one day sell it and be paid in dollars, correct?
- The value of this crypto currency is valued in dollars, correct?
How is this not just one big global ponzi scheme?
-say you have a billion bitcoin, how can I buy a loaf of bread or a gallon of gas with it?

The very thing people rationalize for the existence of this crypto currency is invalid because no matter what,in the end you will trade it in for dollars which is the very thing you insist it replaces!
If this was in fact a legitimate alternative to the dollar it would have no ties to the dollar at all and have the strength to stand on its own, correct?
Just seems like a repackaged shell game where the people that started this stand to make a huge fortune and then a crash where a bunch of wanna be Buffets are going to lose everything.

The people in it now don't really care because all they see is a huge pile of DOLLARS,not bitcoin at the end of the rainbow.
I just can't wrap my noodle around this,Help!
 Quoting: Duncan the destroyer

It's not a replacement yet. One could argue it's still getting setup for that. Average people need a reason to commit to purely digital currencies.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74885362

Indeed. The majority of the people are using it as an investment, now we have an influx of Chinese gamblers, but once it becomes user friendly and the average Joe starts using it, we will see large sums of money shifting to cryptocurrencies.

Also, when the next crisis hits, I wonder how much money will go into crypto instead of gold.

I thought fuck it and bought in today. I managed to buy into ethereum at its peak (typical) and I got bitcoin and ripple. I've got two accounts, coinbase and bitstamp. I'll just leave them and have a look in a year or two. Hopefully one of them goes to the moon.

I think I'll stick another €1000 on bitcoin and then sit back, it's a bit of fun so I'm happy to just see what happens with that amount, I don't want to gamble any more.

Good stuff! Don't worry about the price. Not ideal, but I have no doubt that previously set highs are going to be broken again. Just a matter of time.

I am still waiting for my exchange to raise my limit anyway, so I don't have much choice than to hold off and it might play in my cards, price-wise.

Other thing. I am looking to buy the same three you bought, but I am still doing my due diligence on Bitcoin. Have you looked for an exchange and cold wallet solution for Ethereum and Ripple? The more I read on these online wallets, the more I dislike them, so if I can avoid them, I most certainly will.

Anyway, good luck, man! God Bitcoin speed!

Hint: Stratis will beat down Ethereum this year and I see potential to be more expensive than actual bitcoin itself with that one. Look into it for sure. Anything with new tech is worth a punt, the old coin look tired...

Oh ye of little faith.

My accounts are up over 30% since the "top" you think you might have witnessed.

There's a winning side to every trade.

Finally got my bank account verified on coinbase [link to www.coinbase.com (secure)] With bank account verification comes a higher spending limit for using USD to buy bitcoin, ethereum, or litecoin, and lower transaction fees vs using a debit/credit card.

The only problem is that it took a few days to get the verification..... Waiting on tha dip.

Not. Show me where someone has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars in btc and actually walked off with fiat monies or precious metals in hand, not paper metals.

Slightly off topic, but still relevant if/when quantum computing comes in play to challenge the blockchain.

OP, forget about extrapolating the price movements based on technical or fundamental analysis, or Fibonacci patterns. Crypto-currencies do not have the institutional under-pinnings to allow for such modeling. The price movement is solely based on emotions and perceptions.

What you have to do is look at the technology of what a crypto is built upon and how that fits in to where it's adaptation lies in the future.

Bitcoin's (BTC) technology is not that great, however, it's the defacto standard for Chinese people to sidestep monetary controls in China. Hence, that's what drives the price rise.

For actually "buying things" with a crypto coin, Litecoin (LTC) will probably become the standard. Quicker and smoother transaction times than with Bitcoin.

For the future of it's underlying tech, Ethereum (ETH) is where you want to be. The ETH blockchain for smart contracts and smart devices is what corporations will be adopting. ETH will be a key in the "Internet Of Things" landscape.

Currently, ETH does not have a cap on how many coins can be mined. I believe that the Ethereum Project will put a cap on how many coins can be mined, and once that happens, ETH will surpass Bitcoin in price.

Ethereum about to take off again. ETH will start trading on largest China exchange June 1st (tomorrow). Should be a quick pop to $300-$400 and then work it's way up to $1,000 by the end of of the year.
