Coinbase is the worst! Luckily they haven't fucked me yet, but I've heard plenty of horror stories.

I just wired $10k to my bank account for the first time ever this week and was just waiting for conbase to fuck it up somehow. Luckily I received the wire in 36 hours. If the wire didn't go through, it would probably have taken me several weeks/months to get a response from customer service.

I am seriously ticked at them. Still no word. I have 2 accounts linked, both with sizable balances, have a $10K per week transfer allowance, and I cannot even move $1K in to buy some alts on the dip.

how do you go about paying taxes on money like that?

seems like the fork has been delayed pending them finalizing their electrum wallet. i knew i shouldnt have bought them until we got more details on said fork.

I've spoken w/ many accountants and no one has a fucking clue about crypto.

I did get a little bit of help though from bitcoin.tax website. Bought a premium account and was able to upload my 11,000 trades from 2017. It gave me the total breakdown on every trade I made.

It's my understanding that when you trade crypto to crypto, there is no tax, but if you go crypto to cash, there is.

I guess we will all soon find out.

Americans are taxed on every trade. See irc sec 1031, notice 2014-21, pub 550. Failure to do so risks the irs being able to make your life very difficult, including: 20% accuracy related penalty, 20% substantial understatement penalty, 5% per month penalty for failure to file, 0.5% per month failure to pay. And if the failure to file is deemed fraudulent those penalties start at 75%

I believe this to be correct for 2017.

Starting 2018 though, I believe this has changed.

Starting January 1st, 2018, all trades are subject to taxation.
